Dr. Ken Berry wants us all to be aware that much of what our doctors say may be a lie. Maybe not an outright malicious lie, but much of what "we" believe in medicine can be traced back to word-of-mouth teachings without a scientific basis. In his book, "Lies My Doctor Told Me" he uncovers the most common of these misconceptions. He also shares his story how he learned the power of a ketogenic diet and how that has revolutionized his ability to help his patients. Dr. Berry has an open and honest approach and pulls no punches. That's one reason why he is always informative and entertaining!

  1. I really enjoy all the Diet Doctor podcasts! But this one with Dr. Berry is more relatable than most of your interviews. Simply for the fact that he takes medical terms and translates them to English so the rest of us can understand! It’s simple and straightforward and candid. Sometimes we NEED that in your face style to get us to realize what we’ve been doing for so long is broken and wrong and needs to be fixed! Thank you for this interview.

  2. Dr. Scher and Dr. Berry, thank you for ACTUALLY empowering people to save their own lives! Knowledge and enlightenment is power. Looking forward to watching more interviews on this channel. I would love it if you had Dr. William Davis on your podcast. Thank you.

  3. Dr. Berry is awesome! I love the keto way of eating. I have lost 99 lbs since January 13th by eating this way and without exercise. Keto is amazing for so many reasons. You can make keto substitutes for almost any food you could want. Great video!

  4. I lost my mother to diabetes and dialysis. I lost my 59 year old husband to diabetes and stroke. If I had known then what I know now, they might both still be here. Thank you Dr Berry! I plan to be here a while longer.

    • We have been the victims of an education system funded by industry, grains and milk are the highest paid farming practices. We do the best with the knowledge we have, I brought my kids up on milk and grains, their all overweight, but still following old information, and eat junk food, its my 6 year old granddaughter I hope to educate better before she loses her new teeth and becomes overweight.😉

    • @Hobo On Wheels Unfortunately the 6 year old will have to eat the food her parents feed her. It’s frustrating, sometimes. I hope she listens to granny.

    • I had this same conversation a couple of weeks ago. I lost 35 lbs and kicked some health problems.
I can think of at least 5 family members who might still be here if we had known. Not to mention decades I’ve spent suffering in ignorance

    • losing my grandmother to diabetes related strokes (plus vision loss & dementia) is what spurred me into finding a better way when i too was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I makes me mad when i think of the loss & suffering that could have been avoided, but all we can do now is move forward & encourage those we love to start getting healthier as well!

  5. Dr. Scher is a great interviewer, as well as a smart doctor. Thanks for letting Dr. Berry talk and for asking great insightful questions.

  6. They can toss that food pyramid thing in the trash that we all were told was the dietary bible to good health. Dr Barry makes total sense. Been on keto for a month and feel unbelievable, lost weight, skin conditions have cleared up , blood pressure down, breathing is finally clear. I’m 65 and haven’t felt this good in 40 yrs.

  7. This is one of the most nutritionally, eye opening, interviews I’ve come across! So happy this guy has a passion for speaking up and educating people on the science and facts of good nutrition and health.

  8. It’s pretty sad that i can’t believe everything my Dr. advises me of these days, even nutritionists, specialists ect. Sad! Thank goodness for Dr. Ken Berry, i know he has taken a lot of flack from professionals and he’s pretty awesome for doing this as well! I can’t thank you enough for all of the time and effort you put into enlightening us on our health and how we can be healthier. Love, love, love your vids, i watch them quite often, some i have watched quite a few times, i have learned so much! I like to start my day with my coffee and a Dr. Berry video lol, but they always recharge me! Started Aug 26/19 and Dec. 15/19 i am down 48 lbs. My inflammation is about 70% better, i can even use my hands now as they were so incredibly painful. Bless you Dr. Berry, love you!!!!!

  9. Nurse practitioner here. I work with CKD and dialysis patients. Talk about a sick bunch of patients with multiple medical issues. I do my best to point my patients toward a low carb diet to prevent my CKD patients from needing dialysis and the dialysis patients can be healthier and qualify for transplant. Keep preaching. You’re saving lives, Dr. Berry, Dr. Fung, and the entire Diet Doctor team.

  10. “a bit of contrarian”. That’s why I like you so much! BTW at 305 lbs both knees were killing me. At 220 lbs one knee is pain free, the other pops every once in a while. A1C from 12 down to 5.3. No drugs.

  11. Life changing. I’ve been on a zero-carb diet for a few weeks now and have lost 16 pounds and feel AMAZING. Please keep up the good work and spread the news about what really is the “proper human diet.”

    • @Dave M That’s interesting thanks for sharing. So do you primarily just eat meat? What are your top 5 foods and drink? I’m curious

    • @D G yes I only eat meat now. When I was keto I got my carbs from things like broccoli and cheese. I was also still using artificial sweeteners. Now that I’ve cut those out I lost 20 pounds and weigh the same as I did in high school (I’m 49 years old). I eat as much as I want but stay strictly meat. I mostly eat 80% ground beef due to cost but also eat ribeyes, chuck steaks and sirloin tips. I eat pork like bacon, pork bellies and pork loin. I raise chickens so I eat eggs every day plus I like lots of seafood such as clams, sardines, shrimp, lobsters, mackerel and salmon. I only drink water but some people who do zero carb still drink coffee and tea.

    • @Dave M Thanks for sharing. I am starting to eat “more” meat. I have to be careful since I lost my gallbladder but so far, so good. My weight is lower if anything- BMI is 20. BP 99/66. When I was more plant based, I just felt weak. I feel better now and my dog is going nuts over the new and improved scraps!

Congrats on your success! I think a big key to any successful diet is cutting out all the bad stuff. I’ll probably still eat some plants. I like fiber but I have cut out the bad things like Oxalates and Lectins. With any meat, it is either Grass FINISHED or Wild Caught (Fish.)

      Cheers!

    • @D G Thanks and I’m glad to hear that you’re feeling better. My dogs love the scraps too! I agree that cutting out the bad stuff such as junk food is more important than anything. I cut out plants and dairy at the same time and instantly felt better so I don’t want to go back to either but I think for most people low oxalate plants and dairy are just fine. We’re all a little different so we have to find what works for us but one thing for sure is I will never go back to eat junk food again in my life. Grass finished and wild caught fish are definitely the best!

  12. I love the fact that Dr. Berry does not speak from notes or being coached in anyway. His content is the most authentic that I’ve heard yet.

  13. After listening to dr Berry for a month I started the carnivore diet. I felt confident in what he said and taught. I’ve lost 25 lbs in 2 1/2 months. Thank you dr Berry for being intellectually honest with yourself and the public.

  14. well done Dr Berry!! I went on keto from a completely healthy starting point so I didn’t really lose weight from the diet but have immensely more energy and calm mentality

  15. Great interviewer with the rare quality of asking open questions THEN LISTENING to the answers! Dr. Berry has so much to share. I love his fierce dedication to our health!

  16. As an RN in the USA, I laughed out loud when Dr. Berry said “before we can change a treatment paradigm, all the old guys need to die.” He is so right.
