  1. Thank you! Excellent video, very well-explained. Shared with my family. I am disabled and exercise was never going to get me where I want to be. I started eating a ketogenic diet with daily IF ( 16/8 – 18/6 2 meals a day) since March 14/17 and have already dropped 22 lbs. I am not diagnosed diabetic but I suspect I am insulin resistant and was headed down the path to T2D. I now realize I am going to be the “guinea pig” for going LCHF/keto for my family. Once they see with their own eyes that a disabled person can successfully get healthy and lose weight effortlessly, they won’t have any excuses! Love your videos!

  2. I am long term type 2 and have tried the intermittent fasting 16/8, 20/4, and 23/1) concept and I watched my blood sugar rise over 200 mg/dl in 24 hours; moreover, what I did not realize is that even though I was not eating and my body glucose levels were rising, is that blood sugars were rising from my fatty liver releasing stored glucose. I also did not realize that high triglyceride levels were merely transports of the stored glucose and fat in my liver to my organs and sub dermal tissue which is why even though I hike 3 -5 miles 3 or 4 days per week, I never could lose weight. I watched this video and had an epiphany, all I need to do is maintain IF long enough and not worry about rising blood sugar levels in the short term and my organs will eliminate my stored sugars… eventually! You rock Dr. Jason Fung. It is quite humbling to learn something so obvious all the while eating low carbohydrate high fat lifestyle (i.e. no starch) since January 2017. I eat my 7 – 10 cups raw veggies 5 days of the week and my blood sugars dropped from an average 250 mg/dl to an average 170 mg/dl, but rarely did I see anything under 150 mg/dl, especially when fasting… now I understand what the dawn phenomenon is and the underlying cause of rising blood glucose even when not eating and after exercising… my body is dumping stored sugar from my liver… Wow, I feel so ignorant that I did not realize this until tonight… Once again, thank you Dr. Jason Fung… going back to LCHF and IF as of tonight. For the record, I have been medicine free (e.g. including insulin) since January 2017.

    • @Dr. Pother sounds great. The only thing I would eliminate is why blend up the veggies? By doing so you are destroying the fibre in them? May have missed something in my studies of the subject but Robert lustig teaches well on the subject of fibre. Good luck with your health journey. Sounds like you are doing a great job.

    • @koralblue Have a small amount once a week or so. Berries are OK in small amounts. Check Dr Berg’s videos.

  3. This man has the potential of saving millions of lives, unlike the so-called nutrition specialists…
He deserve more recognition from the world.

    • @Volvo Man We dont need to ban sugar, just ban high fructose corn syrup. If someone wants some candy or chocolate, that is their choice and they have the right to it. But when you put HFCS in all my bread, cereal, pasta, soups, crackers, condiments, etc, then that is morally and ethically unconscienable. And if Dr Fung is correct that “Frucotose is like 20 times worse than glucose”, then these food companies are literally killing us.

    • @David Poon that is exactly what they are doing, it’s also why people are getting gluten i tolerance, because they put it in bread etc. Same thing it’s causing pinholes in peoples intestines and then leaking toxins into the body…now that’s not reversible.

    • @Hey Good luck providing data and evidence to prove this, I can 100% say you can’t. You just associated your diagnosis with being on Keto. That is if you even did Keto right in the first place.

    • Could you then summarise what we need to do or avoid in three lines? By the way, what do you think of ANIMAL CUTS Universal? Please refer me to most effective, healthy and least expensive one. Thanks

  4. I am a 42 year old male with pre-diabetes. According to the work of Dr Kraft this puts me on the spectrum and explains the family history of heart disease. I am very thin (60kilos) and do plenty of exercise. I have never had alcohol because it gives me GERD and neither do I smoke. Irish/Brit heritage. In my 20s (about 20 years back) I was diagnosed with fatty liver and the doctors didn’t offer any suggestions to resolve it. So I just kept living my life.

Here are my questions. What happens to all you full T2Ds that go back to eating carbs? Do your high blood sugar figures return even when you have got rid of your NAFLD? Surely once you clear the fatty liver, as Dr Fung says, the insulin resistance goes away and you can eat grains again? Does returning to grains and dairy start the stores of sugars in your liver again? Does this mean that TD2s need to eat low carb/keto for the rest of your natural life? This would suggest that humans should eat low carb even in our teen years? Yet why aren’t ALL humans getting NAFLD given our modern diets? Because there’s evidence that many don’t! Not convinced. Admittedly dietary will-power is a lot better option than suffering early death or medication for life. However, it doesn’t actually appear to ‘reverse’ the disease, because the moment you stray near the desert bar, those sugars spike immediately again.

Further, why has TD2 blown out to epidemic portions only in the last few decades? We aren’t all drinking soda pop let me assure you. Corn syrup isn’t hiding in my Brussel sprouts. My grandparents generation ate bread every meal, cake for afternoon tea and ample cream and fruits. They are still alive in their 90s and have no diabetes! There is a LOT more for us to learn on this topic.

    • You don’t realise that in our grandparents generation, food wasn’t modified in the ways that it has been in the last few decades. Obesity wasn’t a problem either, yet it is now, and even though you can be thin and still have Insulin resistance, obesity increases risk of diabetes and diabetes worsens obesity, a vicious circle! My point is, you can’t compare the food our grandparents ate to what we eat now, even if it is the same food like bread. People also used to bake their own bread, so they knew what was going into it. Now, we buy it from the grocery store, not knowing what’s in it because they don’t want you to know. Diabetes has thrived in the last few decades because of the changes they’ve made to our food, medicine and who knows what else. Also, you can have a genetic predisposition to develop diabetes even if you eat well, because if your father or mother was Insulin resistant when pregnant, they could pass it down to you which means, you will be born not very Insulin sensitive and will have to watch what you eat from a very young age. Also, to explain why not everyone develops Insulin resistance, it’s the same with anything… for example dairy is not good for us, yet not all of us develop the signs and the ones that do are told they have a dairy intolerance (another lie) same with gluten, another poison that not everyone shows signs of… with Insulin, some people are more Insulin sensitive than others and the more Insulin sensitive you are, the less likely you are to develop Insulin resistance and diabetes. It means your body is efficient at using glucose for energy and some people’s bodies do it very quickly, hence why some people can gauge on sugar and not get fat. The point is, there is answers to your questions, you’re just half listening to Dr fung, you need to listen and watch his other videos and you will understand better.

  5. Thank you Low Carb Down Under for hosting Dr. Fung. To me he’s a brilliant and compassionate “Renaissance Man”. I’ve lost 40 lbs. since I had my first introduction to him online about a year ago. I still have about 25 lbs. to go before I’m in the weight range for my height. Thank you Dr. Fung for getting me on the right path!

  6. Excellent post! I hope all doctors are listening to Dr. Jason Fung, because this is the future of medicine and diabetes care!

    • This is the doctor that got me started down the right path. Since then I’ve been introduced to many doctors and research that continues to improve my knowledge and actions. I’m still learning how to work the levers though, the worst of which is getting past the plateaus while keeping energy up to exercise. That’s a tough combination.

  7. Dear Dr. Jason Fung, you are a real medical doctor. Thank you very much for sharing this important information about causes of type II diabetes and how to reverse it. I will follow your instructions.

  8. Wow, Dr. Fung. Bless you. A paradigm shift is required indeed. Every patient should first be asked if they want their type 2 diabetes (or pre-diabetic condition or obesity) treated or cured. If they choose cured then a focus on implementing the dietary change of intermittent fasting is the ONLY course of action promoted by the doctor. This is the only ethical option.

  9. Dr Jason Fung is opening the medical world to the reality of curing type 2 diabetes.
Lets hope the medical world starts to listen and educate the present doctors and the student doctors how to help these patients.

  10. Dr. Fung changed my live. I lost 30lbs in 3 months and I can’t remember the last time I felt this great. Thank you so much!

  11. A million thanks to Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Eric Berg, and Dr. Ken Berry. Following the advice of these 3 doctors, I’m happy to say that my fatty liver has been reversed. I did IF with LCHF but not necessarily keto for almost a year now.

  12. Dear Dr.Jason Fung,
Your zealous ministry to heal the sick is clearly evident from your presentation which was from your heart.
Thank you for your commitment and unselfish attitude that among the many I am also one that benefited from your mission.
I am 68 years old, have reversed my type 2 diabetes, normalized my blood pressure, lost 20 kg weight all in 6 months and am now full of energy and free from all medications.
What you propounded is clear logic and one need not be a rocket scientist to understand it.
Please keep up your good works, may God bless you and your family.

  13. We have one of the best doctors in the world.. giving us the most amazing medical advice .. All for free !!… How lucky are we !!!.. Thank you ! X

    • So true. Let’s remember to always say a prayer for him and his family especially when we are on the IF. Truly he could have kept his findings to benefit himself by charging people to see him but because he cares for people over money he’s done it. I pray for you sir and the many other doctors who are willing to help in this capacity.

  14. I love his simple, caring, encouraging way. As a result I have cured my diabetes with intermittent fasting. No longer need metformin and insulin and I feel so much better having lost so much weight and look forward to being healthy. It is so easy – just don’t eat. It saves time and money. What could be more simple? Animals do it when they aren’t feeling well. What a relief!

  15. This is by far the best of the talks I have heard from Dr. Fung. I feel like he is pretty fed up here. I can’t believe how difficult it has been to get diabetics to do this. My own uncle died in 2015, honestly, I think from stubbornness. But his body just rotted to death.. and he was fine with it. He had gangrene and would rather die than lose his leg. When I think…it was all preventable…

  16. My gosh, this video was posted in 2017…..and in 2021 there are countless persons who still believe the lie that type 2 diabetes is irreversible. I’m sharing all these videos because knowledge IS power.

  17. Powerful video. Living an IF lifestyle for the last 16 months this just reinforces everything Ive been trying to do with great results

  18. When this was made 4 years ago Dr Jason Fung was an outlier. I think it is almost mainstream today (certainly it will be one day). Amazing that medical science could get it all so wrong for so long.

  19. First doctor I’ve come across who even acknowledges what I’ve seen in the environment, much less offer a logical cause and effect scenario that very much describes what I’ve witnessed first hand AND then offers effective treatments without medication!
