In this video, I explain how you can easily treat respiratory mucus, whether caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis, asthma, or a sinus infection. And even sleep apnea.

You can use salt. Not necessarily taking salt, but breathing in salt. There’s a machine called a halogenerator, which provides something called halotherapy where you breathe salt air. The machine ionizes the salt and puts it out into the air. You can use it while you sleep.

Halotherapy can loosen up the mucus in your lungs, sinuses, and throat. Salt has the capacity to thin out the mucus. It’s antifungal, antibacterial, and it’s also anti-mold. I’ve put links below to some machines that I think are good. (I’m not affiliated with the companies that make them.)

Another option is to use something called a neti pot to wash out your sinuses with salt water.

Check your house for mold or mildew, which could be why your lungs are constantly filled with mucus. If you change locations, you might be surprised at how your sinus or lung condition goes away.

From a nutritional standpoint, oregano oil is really good to treat mucus. So too is garlic and a longer fast, say once a month for 48 to 72 hours, you can put your body into serious autophagy, which will clean up old damaged proteins as well as your immune system. It’ll also deactivate microbes and viruses. If you have a virus that’s causing the mucus, I recommend taking olive leaf extract.

And now you know how to treat respiratory mucus with salt!

  1. I remember being told as a kid that sea air was good for asthma, the mechanism was never explained. Thanks for going through this therapy option

    • @Mark Norville Agreed. I minded a house for people right on tropical seashore and during a rainy period mould took over the house.
Salt laden windy air did not help.
I also got a bad foot infection after bumping it on coral reef on another occasion.
No harm in a salt gargle, though, and in recent times I have been adding salt to food as a pick me up.

    • Repent to Jesus Christ
“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”

    • @Mark Norville Sometimes just believing will cure you. Why can’t you wear more clothes if it was cold as hell.

  2. Oh my Word. I remember once in my teens, I was so sick. I had a terrible wet cough and flu like symptoms for like a month!! That flu almost took me!! I went to the beach and came back healed!!

  3. I really agree with you Doc… I got covid-19 last May this year and I got bilateral pneumonia and it lead me to have a difficulty of breathing… I can’t breath longer on my mouth and my nose… My stomach was expanding inward and forward, it was hard for me to breath on the 6 day having quarantine at home… Usually, I used to steam bath(tuob) once a day since I got the virus as traditional healing in my country (Philippines) during the episode of covid-19. On the 6th day midnight, it’s was so hard for me to breath… I wanted to have a steam bath but I discontinue due to I had lack of oxygen, I need more air to breath…So, What I did?

I was thinking to do a steam inhalation instead of steam bathing.

I took a deeper, I boiled water, after boiling, I took it out and poor In to the deeper, I dropped 10 or 15 tablespoon of iodize salt in it… It was very hot… I wanted to to cry. But I hold not to because I felt like, I can’t breath any longer… I always catch after my breathing, I wanted to slept but I can’t due to fast breathing… I lay on my stomach just to comfort myself, I had the deeper in front of me, I prayed and I can’t hold my tears😭😭😭 and I said “Lord God If it’s really my time, I’m ready but please take care of my children” 😭😭😭

    Right after that

I hold the deeper and it was very hot, but when I tried to inhale it, I I can’t felt any hot while sniffing on it, nothing will get inside my mouth and my nose… My nose and Mouth was blocked…

What I did? I drink it all, it was very hot and very salty… And the rest was miracle… I wanted to spit out the water but I didn’t, I drink it even its very hot and so salty… When it gets to my esophagus or my throat , something like cracking and I can breath freely… The generalized body pain was gone completely from head to toe.. I believed it was the holy spirit’s guidance because nobody told me to grabbed the deeper and boiled water dropped some iodized salt in it, nobody told me, but that’s what I did… And I’m very thankful to our Creator “He saved me” through His holy spirit who guided me the right thing to do…

Thank you Lord God, you save me for my children 😭💕

I’m forever grateful and thankful to You, 💞💞💞

  4. When living in the Philippines many years ago, our children had the whooping cough. The local people told us to let the children ride with the early morning fishermen and breath the salty air as the sun was coming up. It worked wonders in clearing their lungs for the day and they didn’t then choke when coughing! 🤗. They did that every morning for a month and thereby didn’t really suffer and had a wonderful time on the fishing boats

  5. I grew up being told to gargle with salt water for sore throat and it worked. In my adult years was told by medical doctors and dentists how much better it is to use a concentrated salt solution than commercial mouthwash for the same reasons you explained here. Thank you for sharing your knowledge

  6. I’ve recently had two separate throat infections, each lasting two weeks. I attribute the throat infections to covid, that I proved positive to, over three months ago. On each occasion, my throat infection was becoming progressively worse and so I gargled with warm, salty water (as hot as I could tolerate). I would gargle as far back into my throat as I could, until I retched into the sink. This would allow some of the water to trickle deeper into my throat. I would gargle morning and night until the throat infection symptoms disappeared.

Gargling with warm salty water is great for soothing sore throats, though it can be painful to gargle if the throat is badly infected.

  7. Amazing. I am muslim and we fast every year in Ramadan. Olive is also a remedy of ours. This video is amazing, many good advice, I love learning, thank youuuu

  8. When I was in Latvia, we stayed at a spa resort for the week and they had a salt cave where we went everyday for about 30 mins, being a smoker, it really does loosen the mucus up and towards the end of the week I wasn’t wheezing. Great videos, thank you.

  9. We love your content Dr Berg’s Team..I am using your knowledge information on a daily basis…You cover, explain in detail in so many very useful areas..I currently have mucus build up in nose/throat for over 10 days 😀 👍

  10. I have a small humidifier that runs for a few hours. A family member coughs more at night keep waking up from sleep. Last night, for a cup of water, I added a table spoon of sea salt and a few drops of oregano oil. I used it for the humidifier for the night. I’ve got a surprise result- no coughs and no mucus last night

  11. I make up a concentrated solution with rock sea salt and put it through my asthma nebuliser. I would do that for my children when they had any flu or cold infections. It would work every time. My mother devised this idea.

  12. I’m 70 years old. My mom, grandmom, and aunts knew about this when we were growing up. Even gargling warm salt water to break down mucus. Even a little bit of salt on your tongue, suck on it for a few minutes, swallow slowly. This breaks down mucus and allows you to get rid of it….HOME MEDS BACK IN THE DAY WORKED!!

    • @onlythewise1 Occasionally I sprinkly cayenne pepper lightly on my foods. Raises the body temp to help lose weight. Would not recommend for menopausing women as their hormonal spikes can jump in a unexpected heartbeat up a few degrees similiar to an athlete. A tiny bit of rock salt shoukd help balance out the ph-electrolyte levels..love hot peppers concept but my tongue picks up the taste of sulpher on a matchstick and nauseates my stomach. Maybe a food allergy? But cayenne pepper in small doses I enjoy. Cayenne pepper also good for the lungs.

  13. Love extra salt nose spray when having a cold, also stops streptococcies because they dont like salt 👍🏼

  14. After studying for medical entrance exam all these years..finally found the father of genetic engineering on youtube….
Thank you so much for sharing some valuable time on this platform for our sake…

  15. I started the carnivore diet 6 days ago where I only consume, a one a day vitamin, beef, and salt. And I can say for sure that the diet has changed my life and it has cleared up my lungs!

  16. Absolutely! I believe gargling with Himalayan sea salt kept my lungs clear during Covid. And yes although not as often as gargling I used a neti pot. Incidentally, I would take droppers full of Super strength oregano oil as well.

  17. Hi Dr. Berg! Because of you (and research) I’ve seen great RESULTS from a salt inhaler.
