If you’re on the ketogenic diet and you’re doing intermittent fasting, you’re probably already losing weight and feeling amazing. But let’s talk about how to take it to the next level with a simple drink.

The first thing to understand is that weight is a symptom. The underlying cause of belly fat is high insulin—insulin prevents fat-burning.

Carbs, frequent eating, and insulin resistance increase insulin. Insulin resistance is caused by high insulin which then continues to increase insulin levels.

Let’s say you have insulin resistance and go on keto, but you notice your blood sugar levels haven’t gone down. This happens because your liver is making sugar from fat, protein, and ketones.

The worse your insulin resistance is when you start keto, the longer it may take for your blood sugar levels to come down. Continue with keto and fasting, and give this weight loss drink a try, and your blood sugar levels should go down.

  1. Thank you for the guidance. I had over 1000 glucose reading when I went to the ER to discover why I was blind and practically comatose, I was beyond the measure of their equipment. Since your advices, I am at 108 fasting glucose. I am on metformin and take Cinammon capsules daily. I was 365 lbs. Now I am 295 lbs. I weightlift and swim daily, drink water, black coffee, and plain green tea. I eat meat only hamburger, chicken, and fish with cabbage, avocado, nuts, cucumbers, and celery 2x per day.

    • If it’s possible try to get a CGM. It worked for me and I made me able to control my 26 years of diabetes. I have similar story- not with 1000 bg reading – and I am so glad I listen to him and it has been one year exactly I am of many drugs including Insulin. I am 194 from 240 last year at thanksgiving. 🎉🎉

    • @Simpsons The blood glucose meters are only designed to report up to 3 digits (999) because most people don’t last long above that.

  3. Though I’m not diabetic, yet I’m glad that I hear this info after buying ceylon cinnamon, which said to have even more health benefits than cassia cinnamon, Thanks for the info Dr Berg 🌸

    • @Debi Hester Everyone says Ceylon – and it’s difficult to get – even here in India. It’s more expensive and there’s a lot of false advertising.

    • I’m not fussy, just using any old cinnamon I can get my hands on. I put it in my morning smoothie, which has evolved to include, not only berries and kale, but may also contain sprouts, yeast flakes, even Brazil nuts.😜

Previous before discovering healthy keto and IF I’d stress about breaking ‘my diet’ ,now if I go off course for a family event I simply fast for longer take apple cider drinks and get back on track!

  6. This is great because I lost 103 pounds in ten months and I lost my belly too. But I had a bit of loose skin to deal with and as Dr Berg says, this takes it to the next level.

    • @Mahogany Marz i lost 120 lbs in 9 months on HCG injections and kept it off for over 5 years. then weight started to creep back on after i turned 40. that was my fault though. HCG isnt available anymore (OTC) thanx to covid. 🙄

    • @Brian Sessums girdles and Spanx i’m sure. theres no other way to deal with it without surgery to remove it.

  8. This is what I do. In the morning, I put a few slices of lemon to the jug of fresh water, drink it and sometimes eat those slices. By the bedtime, jug should be empty. Dr. Berg, many thanks for your invaluable advice!

    4:30 Apple cider vinegar has acetic acid and acetic acid is a potent blood sugar lowering compound, it will help make insulin more sensitive and less resistant, it will help lower your blood sugars even if you eat some carbs.
    4:54 In lemon there’s various things, there’s citric acid, there’s phytonutrients, there’s vitamin C. The phytonutrients in lemon juice make insulin more sensitive and they make insulin less resistant.

    • Cinnamon: a pinch
    Shake it up or blend the whole thing, if you don’t like the taste you might want to add a few drops of liquid stevia. Some people also use Dr. Berg’s electrolyte powder (one scoop). Drink the whole thing before your meal.

  12. The last fasting insulin I did was about 6 or 8 months ago. At that time it was 10 after a 78 hour fast. I have been what i call “paleo plus” which is the same as keto but i restrict a few things that i react to: nightshades, alliums etc.
    In 2012 I was on 200u insulin a day plus victoza, actos, and they were trying to come up with more. I was following my “endocrinologist’s” instructions to a T and vigorous exercise for 1&1/2 hours daily and getting worse. I threw out all advice, quit eating carbs, started horsing down porterhouses and cut back my exercise to swimming a mile every day and doing yoga. I used garcinia cambogia from life extensions (experience with other brands was not good) and in a year lost over 100#, and weaned off of all diabetic meds. My need for supplements still runs high because I have many more environmental health issues I’m dealing with.
    I have been eating cinnamon on everything I cook, made my own acv for a while and I make chicken soup with whole lemons that I eat with the chicken.
    I’m waiting on results from a fasting insulin from a week ago.
    Does anyone know if cooked lemons retain their beneficial properties?
    Keep going everybody! This is tough, and it works, and for me, it’s not as tough as being really sick all the time!

  15. Dr. Eric. Thank you so much for your guidance. I’m diagnosed with hyperthyroidism few years back which increased my weight. I started doing IF and Keto and I lost my weight too but unfortunately, the T3 is abnormal. Any advise to get that to normal ?

  18. Dr Berg, thank you for the videos and great info. I tried using lemon juice and blending of lemons in my drinks before. I stopped because I was concerned about the sugar content in them. Should I not worry about that? Also, doesn’t having a whole lemon or just the juice knock one out of ketosis? Thanks
