Are you drinking too much? Are you drinking too little? Today, we’re going to talk about fluids on keto and the biggest mistake people make when drinking water.

The average American consumes 4.3 cups of water. This is extremely low. Many people also drink other types of liquids, but many of these can damage your health.

Drinks with caffeine, sugar, and alcohol will actually worsen dehydration. The biggest mistake people make when it comes to fluids is thinking they are hydrated just because they are drinking a lot of liquids.

There has been a big push to get people to drink more without fixing the root cause of their dehydration—and this is another big mistake.

We have to consider the big picture, which includes electrolytes. Electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium are essential for hydration. But you have to have them in the correct amounts to be effective.

The average person who exercises will need two to three liters of water per day. But, to stay hydrated, you need to add sea salt and other electrolytes to your water. You could also add lemon or apple cider vinegar to your water for additional benefits.

  1. Dr. Berg, I have an HONEST question for you, sir: do you have some kind of special power that allows you to be very clairvoyant and read other peoples’ minds? This is probably like the 10th time in a row you uploaded a video about something I’m always thinking about how to fix! In all seriousness, thank you very much for all your consistent and valuable medical info. You’re a true gem 😁🙏👍

  2. Dr. Berg is not only a keto legend, but also a lifesaver.

  3. congrats on 8.87 million subs Dr. Berg~! you are my go to~! and so many others~! thank you for all you bring to the table for us all~! your a gentleman and a scholar as my dad would say.

  4. I asked a question about water consumption yesterday & voilà, here comes this vlog. Whether it’s pure coincidence or not I thank you Dr Berg😄

  5. I do pee a bit at night, but I figured that’s usually because I drink a lot of liquids along side my supplements throughout the day, including into the evening. Even just before bed. Thank you!

  6. That was interesting about how the water we drink can actually get locked up inside us and not be available. Thank you! 👋

  7. This topic will help a lot of people, Many are Drinking water wrongly. Thanks Dr 🥰🙏

  8. I live in a tropical country and drink about 8 -10 cups of water. I sweat a lot because of the hot weather. I can’t believe most Americans only drink around 4.5 cups.. that’s insane! Thank you, Dr. Berg as usual! 😀

    • @Larry Tischler
      Why so angry ? 🙄
You do what you feel you need to do.
Most Americans consume an over abundance of salt, particularly the white table salt that has no trace minerals that we need from the salt. I use a variety of salts when I cook. And I don’t use too much. Most of our foods already are salty enough. And what I was referring too was more of the chips and soups and basic processed foods which has too much salt. You don’t need to be so angry. Seriously. Chill 🙄

    • @Cj Howard No kidding. Not to mention how uneducated the general population is regarding what is actually in their food. Almost all popular children drinks and treats have tons of sugar and high fructose corn syrup. Those “bug juice” drinks and “freezer pops” that small children are given all the time are water and high fructose corn syrup. Even the sugar free alternatives contain synthetic sweeteners that cause inflammation and contribute to other health issues. It’s so easy to consume cheaper, faster highly processed foods that contain several chemicals that we have no idea how they affect our health. Not only that, but our government put out the food pyramid which told people to minimize their consumption of fats and oils but eat six to 11 servings a day of foods rich in complex carbohydrates like bread, cereal, rice, pasta, etc. There’s really no excuse anymore since you can find the nutritional info on everything with your phone fairly easily. People would rather just be lazy and eat whatever chemicals they’re craving and is cheap in the moment.

    • @Wil C
Yep, people like to eat what is palatable to them at the moment. A moment that lasts, literally a second or 2, only to swallow the “food” and then it processes in our bodies as junk, and not helping our immune system or anything else. People seem surprised when they get sick all the time. Shocker 🙄

    • @Cj Howard you tell people the wrong things. Most Americans npw live in warmer climates than 50 years ago. Yet you do not recognize that. You mada a blanket statement that is not true.

    • @Larry Tischler
Again… you do what’s best for you.
And nobody should be eating salty chips and more processed salty junk food. No one. I don’t care where you live. And I never said we need no salt. I said we consume too much salt. Yes we need salt. We need salt that contains trace minerals that we don’t get in traditional white table salt.
Have a good day now. Bye 👋🏼

  9. I appreciate you boosting your audio. I have been watching and recommending you for years, and always had to raise the volume, because of my hearing loss. Thank you, and thank you for educating the public on health. Mine has changed dramatically thanks to you.

  10. Dr. I used to drink 4 yo 5 liters of water over months and I developed hyponatremia. Now I drink 2 liters and add half teaspoon of salt in salads and my hyponatremia got corrected. Your video of previously also helped me a lot of understanding drinking water.🙏🙏

  11. Hi Dr Berg, thank you for your amazing work! I have recently lost 12lbs in just 3 weeks from converting to your Keto plan! Really enjoying it! 😊

  12. Your information has been life changing. I wish most ‘Doctors’ would give this type of information….When most push big Pharma. Thank you so much!

  13. Dr Berg. I just wanted to say thank you for your endless commitment to helping people. I myself have lost over 14kg thanks to your videos, your thorough explainations and general understanding of health. Thank you for aiding me, on my weight loss journey.

    • Congratulations 🎉
Could you please elaborate more and share some details about your weight loss journey?

    • @NYC State of Mind Hey thanks so much! So basically, I combine intermittent fasting with the Keto Diet.

So I do a 23hr fast everyday, absolutely No carbs, i.e Pasta, Bread, Rice etc. With a portion of meat (about the size of your palm) with half a plate of veg. (Green Veg) Sprouts, broccoli cucumber, or a non starchy veg. I always make sure to drink a massive cup of water before and after each meal too. I maybe throw in a handful of Macadamia or pecan nuts too from time to time aswell.

Ensure that each meal is considered carefully and is nutrient dence. Check your Macros and what you need on a daily basis (everyone is different ey)

It is quite hard at first to break off from the carbs, But the more you do it. The easier it becomes as you become more fat adapted. The clear mind, the energy, is fantastic. Hey and the more you realise and educate yourself with just how much rubbish really is in modern food. The easier it to avoid it.

Allow your body to adjust and do it gradually, be nice to your body and your body will be nice to you.

And remember, To get something you’ve never had before, you have to do something you’ve never done before. Stick at it and all the best, friend!

  14. 101 days sober from alcohol, it was destroying me totally turned around my health thanks to Dr. Berg for the help with my dieting!

  15. Thanks a lot Dr. Eric Berg! For this one on drinking water, as well as for all the great information and learning in all your posts, so wisely and agreeably presented.🙂 Once again
I felt how important is to listen to your own body. My favorite drinks are coffee, plain water, with lemon, ACV, or the lemon-ginger infusion, but until 15 yrs ago I was crazy about coke + lemon.

  16. Yes! My personal trainer had to drill this into my brain! I was working out a lot and sweating a bunch and trying to drink a lot of water to compensate for my sweating but I wasn’t absorbing any of the hydration because my body had no salt in it. I was also guilty of under-seasoning my foods because growing up I really thought that all salt was bad for you no matter what. Thank you Dr. Berg!!

  17. I honestly do not know what I would have done through the years without Dr Berg. I credit my good health today as a senior citizen, directly to him. 💖🌿💖🌿

  18. Thank you, Dr. Berg for taking the time to make these very needed and useful life-saving videos for us. Thank you. 😊
Oh…and also, for simplifying all information where we can fully understand. 😊
