If you have a problem with any type of excess mucus, there is a really simple and inexpensive solution: salt.

Salt is one of the best natural remedies for mucus. There has been a long history of using certain types of salt therapy to support the immune system.

Salt is very antimicrobial. It has antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-yeast, and anti-mold properties. Salt is also really good for breaking up thick mucus.

There are many different ways you can use salt as a remedy for mucus. If you live near the ocean, you could simply drive to the coast and breathe in the salty air.

If you’re not near the coast, you can dissolve one teaspoon of sea salt in a glass of warm water and drink it.

Other ways to use sea salt for mucus include:
• Going to a salt house
• Using a neti pot
• Using a nebulizer
• Gargling with saltwater
• Halotherapy

Most respiratory infections are viral-related, so antibiotics won’t be helpful. You have to give a viral infection time to go away, but during that time, it’s crucial to support your immune system.

The best things to support your immune system:
1. Vitamin D
2. Vitamin C
3. Zinc

  1. My dad used to give me salt water when I was sick. I still drink salt water when I’m sick. Actually I don’t care what kind of salt it is. Sometimes oxidized salt is better than people think. That iodine really helps too. That’s my personal experience and success for my wellness. Glad you brought up salt.

    • It’s been standard practice in the USA for 100 years to iodize table salt. The need for iodine, supplementary iodine if it’s inadequate in the diet, is not discussed much because it’s taken for granted. Some people get the idea that either salt is bad for them, or salt with supplementary iodine is bad for them, which may be true for a small fraction of people, so they skip it, when for the vast majority we could just buy a cardboard jar of iodized salt for about a dollar every year and be good.

  2. With Thanksgiving coming up, just want to say I’m thankful everyday for this channel. I used to think I would be doomed to live the rest of my existence in discomfort. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us ❤

  3. I’m on my 4th week of Healthy Keto. This followed after 1 week of total fasting. I eat every 2 days just one nutritionally packed meal. I feel amazing and my asthma that I’ve lived with since childhood is slowly going away. I stopped taking my medication 2 weeks ago and have slowly transitioned to no rescue inhaler. I am taking 2 nebulizer treatments one when I wake and one before I sleep. Mainly for the mucus. Now I can complete my journey with this information. Such amazing ideas this man has. Truly a godsend to me! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Started at 265lbs and I’m 235lbs now. So much energy I’m getting on my own nerves.

  4. Hey Dr Berg,. Again you always have the information I need! Thank You✌️💗

    • Mix sea salt with a little (raw garlic, vinegar) in warm water & gargle the throat. No ingesting.

Mix pink Himalayan salt with apple cider vinegar, raw garlic & raw local honey & a little olive oil all in warm water & sip on this as your morning “coffee” or meal time beverage.

  5. I had a cold and was producing so much thick mucus for the last 3 weeks, then last night I had a really salty dinner and I woke up feeling like all the mucus was gone. 🤯 Who would have thunk it??? Thanks, doc!

    • No lie me also been having mucus for about 3 weeks, n my daughter cooked n had the meat too salty I swear I had little to none mucus last night r this morning 🤣

    • @BumbleBee It is part of our magnificent design to perceive that salty food tastes good when we need salt, and maybe salt is not so appealing when we don’t need it. This will vary for each person day to day. Can a mundane social custom such as having a salt shaker on the table, so each person can salt food to their personal taste, be honoring our Creator? I believe it is. We make things too complicated, when traditional customs have a deep purpose.

  6. What a timing, it is really astonishing. Every content you make is absolutely helpful to me.
I thank you for your hard work to help us.
God bless you and your professionalism Dr.
    🙏😇

  7. There’s a salt room in Perth au where I live. I used it to ward off Covid. It worked. I alternated between salt, D3, K2, sauna and steam rooms. I do those things regularly and never get colds (over 10 years).

  8. My wife from the Philippines suggested I “steam” during a cold. Make pot of salt water very hot on stove, then breathe it in with towel making a sort of tent over your head. Works great, glad I tried it.

    • My grandmother used to make us do this. She would put eucalyptus drops into the hot water. Then we’d just inhale for 10-15 minutes with the towel over our heads to keep the steam in.

  9. Great information, Doctor Berg! Near where I live in Poland, you can pay to stay overnight in the Wielicka Salt Mines for health reasons. There is a hotel in the mine. Doctors here will even prescribe a stay there for ones with lung problems. My mom was very wise, she would always have us kids gargle with salt water when we had a sore throat. I still do that and it really works well for me. I also have a ceramic salt inhaler, which has helped me in the past when I had a horrible cough for weeks from an adenovirus.

  10. As always Dr. Berg always come through for all of us. We all owe you a debt of gratitude. Happy health to everyone

  11. One of the great things about your channel…and there are several…is that you are always covering the right things at the right time. I woke up early this morning irritated by mucus, and found this video waiting for me on YouTube…imagine that.

  12. I’ve always had problems with my sinuses. My go to is a small bowl of warm water big enough to put your face in, add salt, then snort it and let it drain out your nose and down your throat. The first time you do it, it will burn a little but that goes away. It really cleans out my sinuses. Been doing that for years.

  13. Asthma is weirdest of them all, been suffering from it since childhood, really important video, thanks Doctor Berg. Keep the good work up ♡

    • @Irfan Hussaini
A tea made from a pinch of oregano & a pinch of rue, three times per day for 3 days, will cure asthma. You will cough out various toxins starting immediately after your first cup.

  14. My father always had us gargle with warm salt water when we had upper respiratory discomfort. Worked like a charm, no antibiotics used back then.

  15. Thanks a lot Dr. Berg; this is exactly
what I was needing to know. I already took a cup of warm water with a tablespoon of salt. May God bless you!

  16. Thank you Dr Berg for educating us all in improving our health. Saltwater gargle alleviate a multitude of problems, the first of which is a sore throat and throat irritation. It is a home remedy for sore throats and other causes of mouth pain.

  17. Sea salt happens to be one of my main ingredients in my daily anti-disease prevention cocktail. Since taking it religiously for years now, I no longer fall prey to illnesses nor diseases!! 😎💪🏽
