Today we’re going to talk about the first sign of kidney disease. The kidneys are filters that convert blood into urine and recycle your fluid, protein, nutrients, and hormones.

Other functions of the kidneys include:
• Coordinating the amount of fluid in the body
• Converting vitamin D into the active form of vitamin D
• Regulating blood pressure
• Regulating the hydration of the body
• Eliminating toxins from the body

High blood sugar levels can lead to diabetic nephropathy, one of the most common causes of kidney failure and end-stage renal disease.

The first sign of kidney disease is nocturia, a situation where you urinate often during the night. Other common signs of kidney disease are protein in the urine and edema.

I have found that the best way to stop nocturia is to focus on improving the person’s diabetes first. A high-carb diet is ultimately behind diabetes.

The best ways to support your kidneys:
1. Go on a keto diet
2. Do intermittent fasting (one and a half meals a day)
3. Consume plant phytonutrients
4. Take benfotiamine
5. Take alpha-lipoic acid
6. Consume turmeric

    • Not exactly. The best way to interpret Dr. Berg’s information is that he is extending your life, not saving it. Remember, you will eventually die, so your responsibility is to eat/fast as best you are able to live a longer, healthier life.

  1. I’m a biologist and I always felt like the Renal system was the most underrated! Thank you for your dedication to your channel!

  2. Thanks to this channel I stopped eating so many bad carbs and sugar , processed foods etc. Mostly for reversing fatty liver. In just a couple of weeks I am getting up to urinate much less than before. Getting better sleep as a result of that now. Thank you Dr. Berg. I will ask my Doctor about that test

    • Same here. Was getting up 3 or 4 times a night but within a week or two it’s down to zero or occasionally 1 time. Thanks Dr. Berg.

    • @Vee 80s love I stopped sugar completely and stopped snacking. I eat 3 meals a day and try to get all 3 meals within 8 to 9 hours so there is close to 16 hours between dinner and breakfast. I’m eating 4 eggs every breakfast with bacon and either a bit of white rice or home made hashbrowns. Very little bread and lots of salad with home made dressing. Also eating lots of good fats, grass-fed butter etc.

  3. Every American that is not actively fighting to rid their diet of added sugar needs this information ! Young and old if younger people had this information by age 12 they could easily notice small changes as they get older and change their paths to avoiding sugars with much more ease

  4. This one speaks personally to me. I was born with kidney scarring and some other complications. For longer than I can remember even as a teenager I always asked them what more I could do to help myself and they always tell me take my meds and do as I’m told basically. Never once has anyone suggested anything within my control except drinking cranberry juice to prevent infections…that’s literally all I’ve been offered as taking control. I have always resented this bandaid over an axe wound mentality in my area of the UK I’ve always had to deal with.

Thankyou for sharing more useful information with me in 15 minutes than my health care professionals have in over 25 years.

    • @Meg Houghton definitely. The worst bit is, whenever I try to ask about things I’ve researched or anything, i just get scolded as if I’m trying to tell them how to do their job or that I’m an obnoxious patient. Truly tragic

  5. Dr. Berg, we can quite thank you enough. Just when I started saying I don’t have this condition but will share the information with family members who may, you mentioned the part about « there’s no way… ” to recommend the test that measures insulin resistance. OMG, that is EXACTLY what I needed because I’ve been wondering about it. Heartfelt appreciation for all your guidance and encouragement to live smart. 😊💜🙏

  6. They want lifelong customers to service dividends for shareholders of drug firms, that’s why they only manage the problem instead of correct it. People should be put in prison for this causing untold harm and loss for everyone around the world by giving incorrect advice. Dr Berg, you are helping millions upon millions get well. You deserve recognition. Thank you again.

    • Yep and they make sure you can’t sue them for the damage their bad advice has caused because the “experts” have said its good.

    • Dr. Berg is brillant in talking on the edge!
And of course just an Angel with all his helping & shared knowledge.

      We need to learn:
Those pretending to help are Satanists.

      Just my opinion.
Just what I’ve learned with pain not to descibe.

      – All the best for everybody … Astrid

  7. My entire life as 3 of my siblings as my mother all have never slept through the night. My most recent blood panel work was very healthy. I follow 90% of Keto because of your info site. We just have tiny bladders. So make sure to let people know it’s not only kidney disease that can cause this reaction. I’m 68 almost 69. I take zero meds. I don’t lose weight even on Keto. I’ve been doing OMAD for a couple years now. But some days I just get tired of large salad. I best up my rabbit food.

    • I suspect my bladder is also very small. One thing that has really helped cut down trips to urinate is to spend more time urinating .. don’t just jump up after the first stream ends .. wait .. be patient .. more will come and will make a difference. I have not watched the video yet .. nevertheless, hope this helps

    • Likewise, I consider myself pretty healthy at 72. Keto/low carb for 3 years. No meds. But i can’t go 8 hours without getting up at least once. When we burn fat, as we do at night, isn’t water one of the byproducts?

    • Sleeping through the night is a learnable skill that takes dedication and practice. One good night’s sleep sets us up for another which leads to another. According to Dr. Stasha Gominak urinary incontinence, urinary urgency and urinating at night are all related to lousy sleep habits. She’s here on YouTube and is worth a listen. Treating ourselves to calming bedtime routines and retraining ourselves to sleep well should be first on Dr. Berg’s list here, right up there before keto. The benefits of quality sleep are so easy to take for granted and equally easy to forget.

    • I discovered magnesium. Two to three pills a night and I’m sleeping through the night, blood pressure is down, feeling really great! I am also a big proponent of vitamin C. Two to three mg per day.

    Thank you Dr Berg!! 🐱👍🏿

  9. Thanks Doc, this info is sooooo helpful. It’s tough separating sugars from protein in our society and carbs as well. It’s an ongoing battle that we really have to decide early on that we are going to win!

  10. Since I found Dr Berg about a month ago, I’ve dropped sugar/candy cold turkey. I’m feeling better and urination is way down. I don’t know why Dr Berg got thru to me, but he did. Thank you Doc.

    • It took a Gastroenterologist telling me my liver numbers where so out of whack that I needed a biopsy and to possibly be put on a donor list . When I saw the biopsy needle I came home found Dr Berg(and a few others) and haven’t looked back, that was a year and a half ago. Liver numbers are normal, mind boggling, even the Gastroenterologist and my GP dont believe it

    • @PolPotsPieHole that’s terrific! Stay strong! I have a long way to go. Working on my fasting, I am still nibbling at night,, but no carbs like bread and crackers.. I see my family doctor next week. I’m hoping he sees some improvement.

    • @Ironbomb my liver numbers returned to base line in less than 60 days. So if you do it right you really dont have that far to go. That being said I quit all carbs cold turkey, no soda, no sweet tea(both were my major problem ,I loved Pepsi), I allowed my self to eat an Ice cream cone after my OMAD this last summer( a few a week), thats the only sugar that I allowed myself. I think The IMF/OMAD is key ,less you fire up the inulin the better, I also shed 30 lbs. Youll do it,…..once you get in a pattern the easier it gets, it is utterly bizarre

    • Also maybe try to incorporate some intermittent fasting in your eating routine . It helps metabolize your blood glucose . It gives your digestive systems time to rest and recover. I simply shorten my window of eating to 6 hours . So I only eat between 10am and 4 pm . I have more energy than I did 20 years ago. My weight is managed automatically through this method . Best of luck to you.

  11. Excellent info, Doc Berg. You are a “never-miss” daily channel for me. Love to you and Team Berg. God bless you all.

  12. My dad is 86 and has been a warrior on dialysis to remain alive for the past year, if only we had known these important reasons for kidney disease years ago , I don’t think he’d be in this position. Thank you for educating all of us about the importance of
Taking care of our kidneys ❤

  13. I love this Doctor. His is very knowledgeable, and his knowledge gets better and better every day. Thank you Dr. Berg

  14. I urinate a few times during the night… but I think it’s because I drink a lot of water & I drink it too late.
Thank You Dr Berg! You have a Good Heart…God Bless You 👍♥️✝️

  15. Don’t forget that many women who have had children will have a weaker bladder. Especially if you sleep on your right side. This can be corrected for many. Some may even need surgery.
I mostly corrected mine with exercise and weight loss. Still working on it!

  16. I’m catching this before my primary Dr. Does . I started juicing and noted changes already. Being a dialysis nurse I noticed symptoms early and paid attention to my labs , the edema and nocturia was my first sign. My HGBA1C is going down since I started juicing and went to a 75% veggie diet.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

  17. Is it just me or does Dr. Berg’s eyes really seem trustworthy? I’ve trusted him since my very first day on Keto and that was 6 yrs ago. Just plain good advice . . . thanks Doc 🤓
