Let’s talk about tooth decay and how to prevent cavities naturally.

Sugary food left on your teeth is food for bacteria that thrive on the sugar and make acids, leading to tooth decay.

According to the American Dental Association, to prevent tooth decay in children and adults, you need to:
• Brush twice a day
• Floss your teeth once a day
• See the dentist on a regular basis
• Limit snacking
• Consume a well-balanced diet
• Use fluoride and dental sealants (plastic coating)
• Keep added sugar to a minimum

What is a “balanced diet?” In many cases, this means including grains or starches in your diet. Diets that include sugar, grains, and starch can lead to cavities.

There is an enzyme in your mouth that helps break down starch and inhibits damaging acids from being produced. This enzyme is dependent on B vitamins, especially B1.

Sugar, carbs, and starches deplete vitamin B1. The more deficient you are in B1, the more you’re going to deplete the important enzyme that protects your teeth.

Other things, like bicarbonates, also help neutralize harmful acids in your mouth naturally.

In my opinion, to get rid of cavities, you need to address the underlying cause. You have to stop consuming sugar and starches.

The ketogenic diet has many benefits beyond weight loss, including promoting good oral health—and it’s great for adults and children!

  1. Just purchased my daughter some of Dr bergs children’s vitamins for my 10 year old and I’m glad Dr Berg is covering issues such as this , appreciate Dr. Berg 😊

    • Hi 🙂
Can you PLEASE tell me where you purchase Dr Bergs vitamins? I could not find a link. Does he have a good quality ADULT one-a-day Multi Vitamin ?? Thank you.
      God Bless🙏🏼

    • @you r enough, your daughter would have a great start with you learning from Dr. Berg! But please don’t let your daughter use toothpaste or mouthwash that has fluoride in it. It would harm her pineal gland and dumb her down. And what is fluoride used as a rat killer doing in our toothpaste, anyway? Plus a list of manmade chemicals?
God bless you on your journey to finding true health! You’re on the right track!! And yes, You Are Enough!!!

    • @Reen Dr Berg has an app and if you go on Dr bergs community page ( on YouTube ) you will see deals on his supplements and there’s a blue link to click on and it takes you to his website and if you make an account on his website you will get notifications for videos and supplement deals. Dr. Berg doesn’t have a multiple vitamins for adults . I hope this helps , if not let me know all I’ll help you as much as possibly can 😊 have a blessed day

    • @you r enough 💜
      Thank you dear.
I will go to app and get back to you. Wonder why he doesn’t have adult vitamin?🤔

    • @G B I’ll be truthful I switched from our regular tap water to distilled water. Fluoride is another poison !! I usually ( just recently ) switched us all to baking soda and lemon for cleaning our teeth .

  2. I’m keto…but my fiance (36yr old) is not. She eats candy and whatever she wants. Stays thin and has no fillings or cavities. Genetics I guess. But, she has other health issues that I think could be resolved by keto (or just laying off the sugar). She’s been to the Doc many times. Taken lots of different drugs with no resolve. Doctors are always baffled.

    • I didn’t start gaining much weight due to my sugary diet till 38 years old even then every fall I lose much if it 20-30 pounds due to increased energy in the cold. Unfortunately after 45 losing weight has became increasingly difficult.

    • Once perimenopause kicks in, she will gain 30 lbs and be in a bad downward spiral w health. Encourage her to create good habits now instead of fighting the weight gain w bad health when shes around 43-45.

    • If she’s 36, changes in her metabolism due to aging, will require her to adjust her habits eventually. Patience and stick with keto. Your example alone may help lead her away from more serious health issues.

    • @Jason Greenwood probably Hidradenitis suppurativa / that is really nasty / def consumption related …

can send you a page on that.

      NSFW mayo clinic link.

I would be epically concerned if I were you (and looking for a different significant other .. not being on healthy keto w/u).

  3. I have my grandma who kept doing oil pulling with sesame oil since she was in her 20s. Today she is 84 and never had a cavity and has the healthiest teeth I have ever seen. She never ate sweets because she hates sugar 😁.

    • @ilovegoodsax Some cases are of course genetics but the good habit followed regularly can play a crucial role on teeth health. We need to take care of our health, just to maximize or to preserve the benefits 😊.

    • @Frank, except most commercial mouthwash are full of chemicals you don’t want in your mouth. The soft tissues in your mouth would absorb those chemicals, be in your bloodstream – you would not want that. I’d rather be oil pulling than swish with a harsh chemical. Oil is just one ingredient derived from nature, but mouthwash? It’s alcohol mixed with a list of harmful chemicals that are manmade. Just try reading the ingredients and search what those individual ingredients do.

    • Awesome! It’s easier to not eat, what you hate. More props to the diabetics in the house who cut sugar when they want it! hahah. I love the oil pulling though! Just got into that because of some dental crimes…what an awakening. See holistic dentists only. <3

  4. Love your channel Dr. Berg! Thanks for helping me with my ms symptoms these last few years! Happy Christmas from Ireland!🌲☃️🧑‍🎄💞

  5. I think I had every tooth filled when I was about ll. I always cleaned my teeth but I did eat a lot of chocolate and ate a lot of sugar. So a lot of your video makes sense to me. Thank you for the many varied topics you cover, it is so helpful.

  6. Yep! Great video! I gave up ALL refined carbs and sugars two years ago, eat a LCHF keto diet OMAD, and learned how to fast. Haven’t been to the dentist since! I oil pull every morning with coconut oil, use a splash of hydrogen peroxide in my water pik and brush with an essential oil blend. I scrape/pik my own teeth every month. I never have bad breath and my teeth are white 😁.
And…. I’m 59 and I’ve lost over 155 lbs, I’m off my blood pressure meds, my osteoarthritis pain is hardly noticeable now and my asthma is gone. Our bodies are amazing! I was asked to share my story on The Magic of Fasting YouTube channel. Check it out!!👍. Thanks for all you do Dr. Berg🙏

    • Good for you, Jessica!! Yes, our bodies are indeed amazing!!! Give it the right tools and treat it right, it will thrive!
You might want to look for the Boron documentary by an Australian scientist, he found out by accident his arthritis got cured. I started taking 3mg Boron once a day 5 years ago and got rid of my achy knee, fingers and back.
God bless you on your health journey!!

  7. This is great advice. It’s good to take a break from the World Cup to watch some useful videos! Thank you very much Dr Berg. Though ” cavity”, as a word just means a hole, hollow etc. It’s come into English through French, which in turn had stolen it from Latin! It’s connected to words such as cave etc. But of course, it is caused by decay, just as would happen with a wall cavity, for example. Greetings from Morocco. We love the US here, our best friends for 3 centuries!

    Thank you Dr Berg!! 🐱👍🏿

    • You don’t have to go on a ketogenic diet to prevent cavities or tooth decay. Diets are tools not religions. Everyone will always twist everything to make it sound like one diet is the savior of all health ailments. It’s not.

The most alarming parts of that list are the fluoride and dental sealants.

    • Fluoride??!!!! Nope!!! Why would you ingest a chemical used to poison rats and would dumb you down? Fluoride would harm your pineal gland and dumd you down! That is one of their tools to subdue the masses. Stay as far away from all toothpaste that has fluoride in it. And don’t give it to your children and grandchildren either.

    • Doesn’t help people who have fluoride damage to their teeth on their child teeth and their adult teeth. Cause of how it was added to much to the drinking water. Several other people where I live besides my siblings and I have this problem. In my late 30s still needing my teeth fixed. One of my dentist in foster care told me that I would have to always have to get my teeth removed and replaced.

    • Fluoride is toxic to the body and should never be used. Homeopathic dentist and doctors know better. Fluoride is poison . Complete poison! Fluoride goes into the brain .

  9. Dr berg must be a mind reader cause everytime am dealing with an issue, he always has the right video ready in hand…

  10. Thank you Dr. Berg! I love your videos. I have been intermittent fasting. It has made me feel so much better. I have been resisting going on a low carb diet however, but I’m finally going to give in.

  11. HAVE TO SHARE! I have not been to the dentist in a very VERY long time (20+ years). Im self employed & don’t have dental insurance. I take really good care of my teeth because of that. I floss nearly every day, brush in the am & pm and oil pull about 1x a week. I also make my own toothpaste and alternate with a coconut oil toothpaste as well because my mouth doesn’t react well to Colgate or crest (it peels away a layer of skin and leaves an off taste in my mouth) My mom has a problem with plaque and my dad had gum issues.

I just went to the dentist 2 days ago and the doctor told me my oral health was awesome! He couldn’t believe I hadn’t been to a dentist in that long. The true test was when I got to the hygienist for my scheduled cleaning. She didn’t have to do anything! She said I had no plaque, no tarter or biofilm. I wanted to cry, I was so happy. She told me I had a mouth hygienists love to get!

For those that are curious, this is the toothpaste I make. I use a couple tablespoons of bentonite clay, a sprinkle of baking soda, couple drops of peppermint oil and cinnamon oil, 1 tsp xylitol, drizzle some liquid coconut oil and water to make a nice paste. Store it in a glass jar.

    • Good job!! And thank you for sharing your experience. You were right in staying away from Colgate and Crest toothpaste! That was your body telling you they are toxic and not good for you. Filled with fluoride and manmade chemicals designed to calcify your pineal gland and dumb you down. What is a chemical used to kill rats doing in a toothpaste, anyway? Read the ingredients, and search what those individual ingredients do.

    • Colgate is nasty, it burns my tongue… contains triclosan which breaks down into dioxin… messes up your hormones and may lead to cancer…. yet dentists hand it out after your cleaning :/

  12. Thank you Dr Berg for this good video.- There is a dentist in germany, Dr Reinhard Dittmann, who says in a video, that if one would not eat starches nor sugars one would never get a cavity.- He says the reason is, that only these foods create a film on our teeth, which the bacteria feed on and without those foods they have no film to feed on/ create the acid.- He said to just brush teeth 1 time a day, because it takes about 24 hours for this film to form. He says that starches and sugars do not damage the teeth on their own, only in combination with this film. He says to not eat starches and sugars for 24 hours and to slide the tongue alongside the teeth and one will not feel this film, but nice slippery teeth.- I did it.For me this is an amazing info.- He also says what I never knew, that most teeth are lost through receding gum lines/ cavities below the crown line. Receeding gums are due to bad microbiom in the gut which spreads to the mouth.- He changed his live complietely when he found out.- He made some videos in english, but maybe you may want to contact him.He calls himselve a dentist not to repair them, but to keep them healthy for his patients. He goes into nutrition, livestyle etc.

  13. I graduated dental hygiene school this year and have been working for about 6 months now. I see at least 16 different patients every day. I’ve learned that one of the most common habits of people who have a ton of cavities is drinking soda. When I notice the patient has rampant decay, I’ll ask them if they drink a lot of soft drinks or energy drinks and 99% of the time they say yes and seem surprised that I can tell that. The carbonation and sugar are the most volatile combination for our teeth.

    • Please research fluoride. It was used as a rat poison, harms the pineal gland and is used as a tool to dumb down the masses. I have stayed away from commercial toothpaste and have switched to P2 probiotic toothpaste mouthwash that inhibits the biofilm from forming in the first place. Never had a cleaner teeth than ever!

  14. So grateful for all that you’ve shared over my past 8+ years as a subscriber. I really wish I knew about all of this when I was younger!! I got it now though and I have introduced it to my children and grandchildren. All thanks to you Dr. Berg!! I appreciate you so much. You are indeed a life changer 🙏🏽💛🙏🏽

  15. Wish I had understood the link between vitamin B1 and “restless leg syndrome” years ago. Before keto, I would have spells that would prevent me from relaxing enough to fall asleep. Now, I’m nearly down to the weight I was in college, decades ago. I take B1 supplements, so no more “restless legs”. Also, I never feel hungry. No more cravings for sugar, or carbs. My wife and I are so grateful to you, Dr. Berg. For the wealth of knowledge on a variety of topics you’ve provided to both of us.

  16. Hi Dr. Berg!👋 Thank you for continuing to motivate all us to lead healthier lives. I think you are a mind reader because every time I think of something I would love to ask you, you answer my question in the next video you do. Appreciate you more than words can say. Thank you so much!💕

  17. I am impressed with Dr. Berg’s not so subtle demonstration of why a low-Caleb/keto diet isn’t just a “weight loss” way of nutrition for our bodies. Anyone and everyone can & would benefit in some way.
