Let’s talk about the best foods for anxiety. First off, are stress and anxiety the same thing? Not really. You could have anxiety along with stress and even panic attacks, but they’re not all the same.

Stress vs. panic attacks vs. anxiety:
• Stress – External pressure that’s out of your control.
• Panic – High levels of severe fear.
• Anxiety – Worry and fixation on problems without a solution.

Everyone has their specific limit or tolerance for anxiety. But, if you’re deficient in certain nutrients, your stress and anxiety tolerance will be low.

These foods won’t fix the problems causing anxiety or get rid of anxiety, but they will help you cope with anxiety much better.

Microbes greatly influence your nervous system and regulate your hormones. Your microbiome makes neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, GABA, and noradrenaline. Your microbes also make essential vitamins, including B vitamins, that help you deal with stress and anxiety.

Common comfort foods and drinks like carbs and alcohol can deplete vitamin B1, which is an important vitamin for dealing with anxiety.

Sugar and carbohydrates also feed a type of microbe that doesn’t produce anything beneficial for you and, instead, gives you inflammation. Ultimately, these foods cause more anxiety and stress.

The two best foods for anxiety, stress, and panic attacks:
1. Probiotic foods
• Kefir
• Kimchi
• Sauerkraut
• Pickles
• Raw vegetables

2. Nutritional yeast (non-fortified)

  1. I am taking bee pollen for anxiety as it contains vit B. I would like to know you opinion doctor Berg and to thank you for your helpful videos.

  2. My three daughters have anxiety and this will truly help them! Sending them this info Dr. Berg! Hope you have a beautiful weekend everyone. ❤✝️

    • @Villanious Mustache Well I’ve had anxiety for a long time. It got worse from family alright. When both my parents died within a few months of each other.

    • @Ray N. Words have meanings. Intelligent people realize that. Not downing you, just pointing out there isn’t enough information to come to the conclusion you did and for it to be valid. Ever heard of “jumping to conclusions”? More facts needed to legitimately come to your conclusion. My point is all we know by her statement is that she has 3 daughters and they all 3 have some sort of anxiety that she hopes Dr. Bergs information may help to alleviate at least some of. Nothing more and nothing less. That’s all the information she provides. Anything else is supposition.

    • @Robin Ragan intelligent people also skip semantics because they realize only morons think technicalities make them smart. Is she not the mom? Is there not a large chance (statistically) she spends the most time with the kids than other family members. Only people who havent proved their own intelligence and try hards skip over very reasonable assumptions. None the less is it possible its another family member? Maybe if they live in the household considering its 3 of them.

  3. Thank goodness for Dr Berg & nutritional yeast 😊 otherwise we would’ve gone insane from the wonders we’re encountering in our daily lives 😅

  4. Sadly I’m allergic to nutritional yeast – it gives me excruciating abdominal pain. I’ve tried it several times spaced apart & it always does the same.😢

    • That doesn’t sound like an allergy, sounds more like an issue with the Ph of your tummy. How’s your diet? I used to get awful stomach pains with some foods, once I cleaned up my diet and gave my body a chance to heal the permeability issues, those foods are no longer an issue.

    • I have a bad reaction to it, causing me to feel awful, depressed and irritable, like the reaction i have to MSG

  5. It’s fascinating to see the changes in you as you progress with your IF keto lifestyle. Not so long ago you looked too lean, almost unhealthy, now you’re back to looking strong and healthy. God bless!

  6. Dr Berg you have helped me so much. I have followed your channel and taken some of your advice over the past two years. At 50 now I feel better than I DID 20 years ago. My neighbors, friends & clients noticed. Thank you so much Dr Berg ❤❤❤

    Thank you Dr Berg! 🐱👍🏿

  8. Congratulations Dr. Berg, your subscribers are over “9 MILLIONS”, Let’s go for ” 10 M”. From Florida 🏝🏖

  9. Dr Berg, please do a video on how to heal after the vaccine. My wife has been suffering since. Many symptoms have improved but she has lots of gut issues and pain still. We’ve tried cabbage juice, wheatgrass etc but she gets more pain with these. So she is only eating boiled eggs, white fish and chicken breast. She tries to eat a little cabbage despite the pain but cannot eat anything else. Anything acidic, sour, oily, greasy and fatty is out of the question. We’ve tried kefir and saurkraut also but the pain is too much.

    • @M A thank you for an indepth respone. I’ve got her on most of these currently. Previously she said her tachycardia was worse with glutamine (it barely happens now), so I might try and introduce that again. She did have a Vit D deficiency previously but now after supplementation it is now on the high side after taking vit D3 with K2.

She’s doing a 16 to 18 hour fast each day from 5pm to usually 11am. I try to encourage her to fast for a few days but she says her stomach hurts more once she gets hungry.

    • @M A I’ll look into omega 9 as well. I wasn’t aware of this one. I was buying cod liver for her for a while but the pain was too much.

  10. Hey Dr Berg. Love how you didn’t have to plug your own nutritional yeast when you brought it up like most people would. (I use your NY). Question. When I was using sari foods non fortified N. Yeast the rdi for the b vits was in the 100s even up to like 500% for riboflavin. But your rdis on your N. Yeast are from around 20%-50%. Reason for the huge difference? (Both are non fortified)

  11. Good morning from michigan 👋🏽.. ever since I started eating fermented foods and nutritional yeast I’ve noticed a big difference in my mood. I can tell my microbiome is satisfied thus, eliminating any anxiety I used to experience. I also realized that I’m less irritable now, it really takes a lot to reach my boiling point now..Life changing🙌🏽 I have one concern though. So I recently started adding broccoli sprouts to my diet, I usually mix them in with sauerkraut and top it off with aged and unpasteurized Parmigiano Reggiano ( probiotic). I’ve heard from a couple sources that mixing dairy with broccoli sprouts inhibits solfuraphane…. ? Is that true? I’ve searched the web for studies that prove that and I can’t find anything..

As always, thanks for your time!
Keep up the good work ✊🏽

  12. Changing my diet helped a bunch with feeling anxious (thanks to you) but Jesus and the word of God also have been helping way more than I ever could imagine. 🙂

  13. On a daily basis, I recommend my patients multivitamin, cod liver oil and nutritional yeast as supplements. I also advice them to avoid added sugars and snacks. Healthy types of fats, meats, vegetables, eggs and so forth. Hardly anyone has any understanding about nutrients and healthy food, and almost all fail on these matters, but through repeated information and bits of knowledge they gradually improve. I often recommend them to watch this channel, which I myself discovered a year ago, and has taught me a lot and sparked my interest to improve my habits as a physician. Medicin / healtcare is insanely pharma oriented, and negligent of food and fundamental physiological concepts for health and disease prevention.

  14. You explained that better than my pathology professor, my physiology professor, and my anatomy professor combined.

  15. I love you so much, Dr. Berg. I have lost about 25-35lbs and kept the weight off. I have learned so much about my health and the why of why’s because of the information you put out. I went from one meal a day and still gaining weight feeling cruddy to 2 or 3 meals a day and not gaining a single ounce and feeling healthier with more energy. I’ve found ways to supplement my nutritional lack with food instead of vitamins because of you. I can’t even tell you how much my health has improved because of you. I am not on any medication (That was my choice, no pressure from you at all, and I know you don’t advise people to stop taking their prescription medications) and I feel better NOT taking medication and getting all those painful side effects. I’ve been following you a few years but this past year I really started to implement the things you suggest and get a move on in my healthier journey. I got down to 129, I’m 133 today (Not gonna lie, I ate like a pig during Thanksgiving break and I ate every drop of leftover, didn’t exercise and I’m not sorry 😂. Keto was nowhere near my mouth 😂) I think you’re brave for what you do when other Drs and medical staff etc may be against your advice and ways of gaining health. You are awesome! Give your wife a big ol’ hug from me because I know she’s right by your side supporting, encouraging, helping and loving you along the way! I hope you both have a great, healthy and blessed day!

  16. I started having severe anxiety issues around 30 years old. Now 46. I have tried everything. Some supplements seem to help for awhile such as magnesium, nutritional yeast, pink salt, valerian root and so on. I feel like I have finally found the cure for myself. DHEA 50mg taken for at least a week to gain the effects. Take DIM to help and balance any negative estrogen effects. Also, boron and zinc may help. DHEA is the main thing though. My ability to handle stress went up 10x. I’m confident in social situations, etc. I wish I had known this years ago. All the visits to doctors and psychologists, and not one ever looked at my hormones, etc. Not sure this will work for everyone, but if you are dealing with anxiety, try something that will improve your hormones.

  17. I’ve been mixing my keto and carnivore with fermented vegetables this whole time. It finally took hold as I transitioned from supplements for the liver (and pancreas) back to whole foods, such as whole ginger, Fennel, Anise and Milk Thistle seeds, which are foods which you mentioned in other videos. It’s a lot like the Candida diet I did a decade prior, but with a solid road map and a better understanding of what foods do what exactly, and that’s entirely thanks to your research. It’s good to be back in the saddle and I couldn’t be happier. I plan to use more of the raw vegetables you’ve suggested going forward. For now, I’m always on the run so Sauerkraut is doing the most for me these days, otherwise, please keep us informed, _as always!_

Your work has not only saved my life, it restored it! It’s amazing when you realize the length people go to avoid being present (influencing, political influencing and grifting online) because the foods they eat don’t allow them to cope. We need these diets so we can be social and effectual at our jobs, with our families and functional in society. It’s nuts just how much of a difference a proper diet and food intake can make on your entire world! Bless you and Thank you!

  18. Can confirm this information is accurate. Drinking milk Kefir everyday that’s been well fermented was the only thing that got rid of my severe anxiety/panic attacks. Sometimes I go a few months without remembering I used to get anxiety. It’s a blessing.
