0:00 Introduction: The MTHFR gene explained
0:52 MTHFR and detox
3:35 Toxins in the environment
5:23 How to support detoxification
7:42 Learn more about the MTHFR enzyme!
Today we're going to talk about a common problem that affects your ability to detoxify chemicals and other toxins.
This problem involves the MTHFR gene, known as the detox gene. It's also involved in creating neurotransmitters and in hormonal regulation.
If you have a mutation or alternation with the MTHFR gene, you could lose 25% to 80% of the gene's function.
A loss of function of the MTHFR gene could lead to potential complications, including:
• Free radical damage
• Oxidation
• Inflammation
• Fibrosis
• Cirrhosis
• Insulin resistance
• Fatty liver
• Poor digestion
• Poor sleep
• Gallstones
• High cholesterol
• Backup of bile
Many chemicals in the environment are considered endocrine disrupters and estrogen disrupters, which may lead to various health concerns.
If you have a genetic mutation of the MTHFR gene, a typical detox won't help you very much. You have to have a very clean lifestyle. With this mutation, your liver could have a difficult time just getting rid of things like alcohol or caffeine.
But there are things you can do to help this gene work correctly. First off, you should avoid synthetic, enriched, and fortified foods and supplements.
The best things to support detoxification if you have a mutation of the MTHFR gene:
1. Methylfolate
2. Methylcobalamin
3. Choline
4. Natural B vitamin complex (nutritional yeast)
5. Magnesium (leafy greens)
6. Cruciferous vegetables

30 seconds in – so happy Dr Berg is discussing this aspect of NAFLD 🙏
Thank you Dr. Berg, from Ireland, for your wonderful work. Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy and successful New Year. 😊
I just started taking a Tablespoon of All Natural Olive oil in the morning on an empty stomach. With a little lemon juice. It’s supposed to great for many things. Another great video 👍
Taking one spoon of olive oil with one spoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice diminished my appetite. I noticed this effect after one month of using it. I can no longer eat seconds of my favorite food. I can hardly finish the one portion. 👍😊
@Jenny That’s excellent. I started intermittent fasting on September 1st at 310 pounds, doing the 16/8’s. Quit Soda, energy drinks, etc. currently at 254. But now I’m adjusting my fast for awhile to 12-13 hours, because I’m breaking my fast around 7am with Olive oil / Lemon Combo. I’ve learned so much from Dr Berg, Dr Mandell, and other Channels. 👍
Thank you for covering important topics and delivering them in easy to understand ways, Dr. Eric.
You’re welcome. Hope you are learning a lot here. Happy New Year!
@Dr. Eric Berg DC I’ve tried to post to you for years to let you know that taking choline also makes me sick. I have to take citicoline (CDP choline) because it is already converted for my body. Pls research citicoline? Thank you!
Good Morning , Dr.Berg ⛅

🙏 1 / 1 / 2023 🙏
Good morning. Have a nice day!
ameen amigo!
@Dr. Eric Berg DC Is this only for beef liver? Or the same benefit from chicken liver?
Wow! Thank you for focusing on this gene polymorphism and how to overcome its damage. My while family has various degrees of this. We take methyl B vitamins and non-fortified nutritional yeast, but I had no idea that our hormones were also affected by this gene. I’m confused about how choline is involved in it. Perhaps you could do a part 2 of this video and explain more about that. Thank you again Dr. Berg.
Hello. We will add this to our video suggestion list. Thanks.

Dr Eric Berg ~ can i ask something please? i love your channel and have been a fan of yours for many years. Im trying to eat better than i have and continue to learn. Its just im 52 now and feel dread about getting old. I can feel it in my body and energy levels waining…. and I want to feel fresh again. Is this waining feeling normal? is it normal to be aware of getting older and feeling like your body is slowly shutting down? ~ ~ ~ love and blessings
No. It’s not. It’s due to diet and lifestyle. You can simply look at other cultures and see how vitality they are at a very old age and they even appear youthful.
Eating “better” than you have? What does that really mean? Sometimes we think we are eating “better” when we really aren’t. High Intensity Health just did a video yesterday on processed food and brain atrophy. I recommend watching that. I would share the link but sometimes comments get hidden if we place links. You can just do a channel search and watch the newest video to see it. That aside, I think it’s natural to start feeling a tiredness, but I am sure most of that feeling comes from our general health. I hope you get feeling more energetic! Be blessed!
Here’s a video that may help!

@thepatriotskitchen7289 So very true, especially the EATING BETTER part. Way too much confusing and contradictory info floating about. Have to be willing to experiment, research and limit your advisors to a few trusted sources. Dr. Berg being a good example!
Thank you Dr. Berg for starting us out in a good direction in 2023 for health and wellness.
Great reminder to dial-in your supplements to avoid various degrees of toxicity. Quite a few manufacturers use cheap ingredients to skirt around labeling laws. Definitely going to scrutinize my list in 2023! Thanks Dr Berg & team for making a difference in so many lives!
Natural health stores I go to purchase any kind of natural health items such as vitamin, soaps, dental, and so much more.
Amen to that❣️I plan on doing the same! However, about 99.5 %
Of all my supplements I purchased from Dr.Eric Berg since I discovered him in 2015 and I am Soooo Grateful to God, that I was guided to him and his Amazing Staff💖🙏
I have researched the food sources of vits and mineral and eat those foods.
Happy New Year Doc! Can you do a video on how to naturally clean a uterus after a miscarriage 😢 and any natural remedies to GET RID of uterine fibroids please and thank you
Sad news, hope 2023 is kinder to you.
Try radically boosting your vitamin C for a few weeks. Look up High Vitamin C to Bowel Tolerance
Food rich in aNtioxidant and ginger…
Your “v” has a way of cleaning itself. However, serrapeptase helps break up old tissue. My shrunk my fibroids with a certain diet.
@Ellen Story gluten free society has en excellent vitamin c powder
Salute to unique dr. Berg
Thank you very much. Appreciate your comment!
Good morning, Dr Berg! I love that you keep your videos short and to the point! Thank you! How do we know we’re getting enough vitamins when eating them in foods like dark leafy vegetables? Also how do you feel about fasting (even intermittent) for resetting and detoxing the body?
Go back thru the video list. Dr Berg is constantly commenting on fasting and intermittent fasting. He is a big fan!
@CapeCyn Thanks, I figured he did a video on it! He’s very informative and I love the natural approach he takes rather than push big pharma pills!
Happy New Year, Dr. Berg! May it be healthy and peaceful for you. Many thanks for your tireless work in helping us to improve health. You deserve so much respect! God Bless!
Thank you! I’ve reintroduced Arugula yesterday afternoon and I think it’s working, I’m pretty sure based on this content! With a lot of garlic, healthy Keto and intermittent fasting I have finally been able to free my body of the bacterial overgrowth. Last night is when I felt relief in the evening for the first time in probably forever.
Wonderful! You’re very welcome!
This is the most clear explanation of the MTHFR issue that I’ve seen and I’ve been going down that rabbit hole of late. I have a good feeling that I and my sisters and probably my mother (who has passed) have this genetic defect. I have the symptoms and would like to get tested.
I had mentioned last week in one of your videos about having a severe allergic reaction to a fortified nutritional yeast. Could this be the connection? The synthetic folic acid? I never have any reaction to non-fortified nutritional yeast. Thank you!! 🙏❤️
You’re a mthfr gene. 🤣
Starting the year the right way. Happy new year to all of you and to Dr. Berg.
Dr. Berg, thank you so much for caring and taking the time to thoroughly explain these things. 😇Good health to everyone🙏
My pleasure! Happy to help!
As marvelous and complicated as the human body is, I’m fascinated as to how any of us remain healthy. There is so much going on in our bodies. Videos like this one help me to feel more respectful towards my “envelope.” Thanks again, Dr. Berg.
Any recommendations for good choline supplements that don’t contain magnesium stearate?
Thank you Dr. Berg! Happy New Year to you and blessed family! Wow you look great & with much pearls of wisdom, you should write a book‼️⭐️✨💫
