Many people deal with pain and soreness behind their eyes. Today we’re going to talk about what’s really behind certain eye problems like eye soreness, sensitivity to light, eye strain, or watery eyes.

In many cases, these problems with the eyes are caused by the hypersensitivity of a nerve behind the eyes. But that’s only the tip of the iceberg.

If you’ve had chicken pox, you have a higher risk of getting shingles later in life. But, before you get shingles, your body may give you certain warning signs of shingles. One of these warning signs is pain behind the eyes and other eye problems. This is because the dormant virus hides in the sensory nerves and waits for the perfect opportunity to come out.

The top triggers of shingles:
1. Cold weather
2. Weather changes (pressure)
3. Stress
4. Vitamin D deficiency
5. Zinc deficiency

It’s key to focus on prevention and keeping your immune system strong by doing certain things, including:
• Getting plenty of sleep
• Exercising regularly
• Lowering your stress
• Consuming a healthy diet (Healthy Keto®)

  1. Hello Dr Berg, thank you for sharing all these important information. Dr berg I need your help & advice & I can only ask you here, for my best friend who just been diagnosed with leukaemia & is so worried just thinking about his 2 young children. I found your page here while browsing & I would like to know what my friend should eat or do to help him get better pls! Thank you.

    • Praying for your friend. Just a fellow subscriber, but have your friend look into the antiSCOT foods, and have him watch Dr Bergs videos on the 21 day fast for curing cancer. Get your friend on healthy keto and intermittent fasting to start.

  2. Thank you for the info. Shingles is just one more thing that the fear mongers, I mean medical community, try to scare us with. It’s nice to be educated and know this is something we don’t have to fear and can prevent. Thank you for taking the time to help. I say the video on cholesterol and menopause so added brie cheese and ashwaganda to my daily regimen of eggs and butter.

    • Vitamin B – Vitamin C (organic) Vitamin A & E.
Shingles is multi-valant – so it needs a number of approaches.

    • Going out of your way to eat butter sounds a bit odd. It’s not healthy just because it’s slightly better than some oils

    • @Penderyn “It’s not healthy (butter) just because it’s slightly better than some oils”
No. It’s healthy because it’s a natural fat. And it’s an animal product – so NO plant toxins. Very healthy indeed.
Fats are the body’s preferred fuel source. The heart muscles for instance run on over 80% FAT for fuel.

  3. I was having a severe headache behind my eyes and i saw this video while having the headache. Wow how it ended up uploaded in the right time

    Thanks so much Dr.Berg

  4. I figured out mine was triggered by hypoglycemia. When I corrected that by following Dr.Berg it stopped. The hypoglycemia problem caused stress and cortisol in my body. Anyway, thanks again Dr.Berg!!!

  5. Thank you, Dr. Berg, for this unique informative information. I have been suffering most of my life from the pain behind my eyes, but after I followed keto, for over five years, it got reduced noticeably. OMG, it was very severe moments when someone has that kind of pain..

  6. Dr. Eric Berg you are an angel in our lives! I had covid and am grieving the loss of my mother in a very traumatic way. I developed intestinal dysbiosis, panic, anxiety and depression, and the high cortisol levels wrecked my stomach. It becomes a hellish cycle! To make matters worse, all this stress is leading to early menopause, and it’s weakening my immune system causing me to have bouts of herpes and recurrent throat infections. Because of you, I am understanding this whole mechanism and trying to put your teachings into practice. Some doctors just want to know about prescribing meds for sleeping, for depression, stomach meds, synthetic hormones for menopause. Eternal gratitude to you, Dr. Berg! God cover you with blessings!!! 🙏❤

  7. hi Dr Berg, I often feel pressure or slight tingling on the right head (area above around right ear) , this has lasted for 6 months intermittently throughout the day. Can you explain what causes this symptoms?

    • Chronic agitation in a specific area requires diagnostic skills with a series of questions. Way more than can be provided here without making assumptions. For instance, are you in a prolonged state of ketosis? How’s your nutrient intake? What medications are you currently taking? Blood labs help discover how your body is reacting. Ask your family, colleagues and friends for a referral to a good doctor like a nutritionist

  8. My eyes and top teeth will hurt from sinus congestion. I’ve never had chicken pox even when mom sent me to play with kids that had it. I’m not allergic to much even poison ivy. Thanks Doc!

  9. 1) vitamins, 2) strength exercises, 3) identify all the PEOPLE who cause your stress and GET RID OF THEM from your life – not necessarily in that order

  10. Thanks for always delivering valuable content! It’s honestly quite shocking what stress can do to our bodies. Just another great example that healing start from within.

  11. Dr Berg I cannot tell you how grateful I am to you for this video!! I have been suffering from EXACTLY this pain behind the eyes for years and have been utterly perplexed by it. It seems to strike completely at random so I do not know how to avoid it. It has been slowly getting worse. I used to get over it in a few hours. Recently I have had episodes that go on for 3 or 4 days. The pain is unbearable. I usually get it in only one eye, but it can move over my forehead to the other eye. The eyelid and surrounding tissue becomes swollen and red, constant weeping, constant stabbing pain. Heat gives some relief. Panadol keeps me sane and lets me sleep. I am so relieved that finally I have some clues as to what is going on. Thank you!!

  12. The cold makes sense, my eye aches usually happen as part of headaches from cold triggered spasms in my neck and head muscles, usually need a hot shower to get relief.

Happens as much from Air conditioning as it does ambient cold or a breeze on a cool day. sometimes a warmed damp hand towel (microwaved for about 20 seconds) provides relief but sometimes need to resort to hot shower, particularly right on head and face.

Eye pain also results when I spend too much time using smartphone instead of the big screen of my computer. If i persist, the tears start an vision goes blurry. Too much close focus, not enough distance from screen.

Seems even the big screen smartphones are not a good long term substitute for a computer/laptop.

  13. Thank you, Dr. Berg. I so appreciate you and your honesty on health issues vs drugs…(cough cough statins) Haha. Love your sense of humor, too. 😁

  14. All I know is when I got C-vid last month my eyes were hurting if I looked left/right and also I had dryness. Luckily that stuff went away after taking ACV, D3, zinc+vitamin C and sleep which I used to do consistently but stopped for a few months because I was lazy. I had to take acetaminophen once because my head was hurting really bad/I had a fever. No I didn’t get C-Vid vaccine

  15. Thank you – this is good to know. I’m terrified of shingles after my neighbor had it and I’ve had random episodes (years apart and short-lived) of tenderness under my eyebrow or side of the eye so this is super motivating to continue my Keto and stress free lifestyle 🙂
NO SUGAR *** NO SUGAR *** NO SUGAR *** NO SUGAR *** NO SUGAR *** NO SUGAR ***

  16. When I was a kid, I had terrible pain behind my eyes when I was very sick…twice when I had pneumonia, an a few more times when I was sick with unknown ailments. I have also experienced this a few times as an adult. The pain each time has been unbearable.

  17. My mom has suffered from trigeminal for years. She never gets pain behind her eyes, but shooting pain in her mouth. She has been on so much prednisone and gabapentin that it gave her cirrhosis of the liver. It’s a horrible disease! She passed away in November.

  18. Dr. Berg, you are amazing! I got pain over my left eye starting last night and now both my eyes are paining me in that area! I’m going to listen now.
