    • Foods can be made hyper palatable with tallow too. You can overeat saturated fat and get fat without touching any seed oils.

    • Over eating high pufa vegetable oils is much more damaging than over eating stable fat like tallow and butter. The former is more rancid and cause high inflammation and oxidation in the body. There is more to the science than just the calories amount.

The way the oil is grown and manufactured also make a difference in the amount of pesticides and other toxins in the end product.

    • @kimarunas you cannot overeat saturated fats!!!
      Alone that is.
Adding sugars to those saturated fats makes food palatable.

    • @kimarunas This is where I am getting at, and it is still a controversial debate about whether it is sugar or vegetable oils have a greater effect on obesity. Obesity caused by vegetable oils has been postulated by researchers who have more credential than me. It is hard to quantify because these two foods, sugar and veg oils, are generally always combined. There are rat studies available, but random controlled trial with human would be supremely expensive potentially requiring a control group and 2 others, also not likely to be funded. There are varying studies showing how damaging these vegetable oil are to metabolic health. Such as omega6 having effect on insulin sensitivity, the damaging metabolic effect of 4-HNE which is formed in higher amount in cooked vegetable oil, soybean oil more obesogenic than coconut oil and fructose. I don’t follow health studies much now, but there should be more updates on this topic. I can only say based on the varying studies I saw, I am convinced that veg oil have a great damaging effect on metabolic health.

    • Not really. In fact, maybe overly demonized. Depends on your discipline to not abuse it combined with your metabolic tolerance which differs based on each person health.

Vegetable oils are the real evil to watch out for.

  1. In general it’s not about more calories but hormones. Namely Insulin. It’s basically where(what macros) those calories are coming from. Too much glucose from too many carbs for too often leads to obesity. But let’s really blame the Registered Dieticians/Nutritionist who still have it wrong even with all the new evidence.

  2. Thank you for pristine honesty with no promotional pitch. Very rare. 73 y/o here. Post polio 1951. Daily climb steep hills and race my bike 10 miles. Near zero sugar for years. Now time restricted dieting with no carbs, fresh uncooked vegetables(probably 80% of intake volume) antibiotic free meats, no processed meats … all available at no extra cost pricing at our local grocery store if you just stay focused as you shop. Increasing daily burst of floor exercises while I trade (a sedentary practice).

  3. Yes, people were of more normal weight in 60’s and 70’s from my memory. I think we ate smaller portions. But we definitely had all the bad foods, cakes, cookies, donuts, all the candies. Candy bars, no such thing as a granola bar. Schools offered home cook meal and kids walked or rode their bike to school. Only remember one fat kid in class everyone else was thin.

  4. It’s the access to junk foods that is a problem. Every mall has a food fair and snack restaurants are everywhere, many with 24 hour service and home delivery. And people have money to spend on small items. Why not eat all of the time?
