Today I’m going to share why eating in moderation is bad diet advice.
This idea involves avoiding extremes and consuming a balanced diet with reasonable amounts of various foods.
However, some of the foods you are allowed to consume, even in moderation, can destroy your health.
Why eating everything in moderation doesn’t work for weight loss or creating a healthy body:
1. The carbs aren’t low enough (moderation is subjective)
2. Many people have insulin resistance
3. It doesn’t consider genetics
4. It includes addictive foods
5. It includes refined foods
6. Eating stimulates insulin
The best way to burn fat and create a healthy body is to consume 50 grams or less of carbs per day. Doing this will also eliminate hunger and cravings, making it easier to stay on track with a diet plan.
The Healthy Keto® diet is a low-carb diet plan that focuses on nutritious, quality ingredients and getting healthy to lose weight. Learn more about the ketogenic diet in my other videos.

Always thought it was stupid, eating some foods in small amounts still makes me sick, so I avoid. I thought I was wrong about that, thank you Dr. Berg for the confirmation 👑🏆
Way you need it if it’s clear??
If I eat anything with gluten my allergies and sensitivities really flare up, even though I’m “ not gluten intolerant”… Go figure 😅…. My husband on the other hand at 66 years old has almost perfect test results, and he eats everything…. ( not fare 😂, just kidding)….
A normal diet give you the right amount of sugar in your blood but of course you need to feel and avoid allergic and industrial foods.
I think the problem always be the quantitys and way the slim intestines works with the food and the insulin.
It means everything you can eat dah
Been intermittent fasting for awhile now, going to try keto next. Feel so much better already, can’t wait to see where the journey takes me.
How long have you been fasting for
combining IF and Keto plus weight training makes you lose fat and gain muscle fast, but it takes time and will to sticl to it
I always thought so. I tried at times to advise people close to me of a better diet , Their dull and robotic answer has been always defensively hanging on the mainstream talk “but no sure I do eat a little of everything everything in moderation even the experts say so” I could not avoid looking at them at someone who couldn’t think. And that’s clearly the root of stupid.
That’s why we love Dr. Berg! I love genuine people who don’t have that “king or queen over everything complex”! Plus, we know Dr. Berg makes actual common sense. ♥️
What i love about you Dr. Is the constant inspiration you give me to stay on track! Many thanks from Australia
I agree 💯 with you, Dr. Berg.
Dairy food, even in small amounts, triggers my alergy and excess clear mucus, which is debilitating for me.
Thank you, Dr. Berg for another very educational video🙏
Ditto!!!!
Me right now 🙃
i get itchy eyes too from it.
This video is why you’re the bomb 💣, thank you for sharing the info on genetics and the sweet gene 🧬, this describes me too. Do you have a recommendation for genetic testing and what are the most important factors to test for? I recommend your videos and supps to my friends, clients and family. Thank you for all you do!❤
I definitely have that sweet tooth gene 😅 I remember before keto I used to buy these mini meringue cookies and I wouldn’t stop eating them until the whole bucket is finished! Thankfully my cravings are not as bad as they used to be before keto for sure.
You don’t have a sweet tooth gene you are addicted to sugar.
I ate a pack of Oreo cookies every sunday
I bought a pound of See’s chocolates and ate them all in one morning. It would make me sick to do that now.
@Sheri Rottweilersforever same here in my childhood 😅 I guess Milka Swiss chocolate bars were popular at that time. Still these chocolate cravings seem to come back at my monthly time.
@darkNovaskar 😅
It was World Pizza Day yesterday and of course we ordered pizza for dinner… I’ve been fasting since then with nothing but water and electrolyte tablets, will see it through the weekend before I start eating again. Keto has helped clear my skin but it’s so hard to resist all the temptation, especially since I work in the construction industry and people bring carb loaded treats to the office all the time. Cookies and cupcakes are not too hard to pass, but when the buttery croissants from French bakery come out…
Thank you for clearing that up! It is really stupid advice and I am happy you call it what it is. Looking forward to your comments on ALL the other stupid advice they shoved down our throat so far😆
Every time I water fast, it amazes me how after 50+ hours of no food whatsoever, I have no hunger at all. I usually dink around trying to figure out when I want to break the fast and what I want to eat when I do. One time it took me three hours of contemplation before I finally decided I wanted eggs and bacon. I laugh every time I recall the experience. 🙂
Haha. Nice.
The same happens to me, it is scary though to feel you could go on and on with IF while at the same time not feeling weak nor hungry with a potent mind.
@CFCJesterFool What are some of the other foods or meals you eat after coming off of a water fast? I am as well on a water fast and just beginning this and I think ..Hmmm 🤔 what should I eat to not have my digestion or body go all weird lol. ..salads .eggs.. avocado..salmon. I hope those are healthy choices to not create my blood sugar to go haywire
Thank you! I’m a trail runner/racer and I hear this all the time. Lots of runners justify eating trash and drinking alcohol because they run and feel that it’s a special treat to eat and drink unhealthy stuff.
I’m runner as well, I used to drink beer and be a competitive college athlete. Kinda regret trying to moderate it. I’m sober now and find myself with more energy than ever before.
5’6 250lbs is what I went up to one year after moving to vegas, out drinking every night and eating good and I was the heaviest I ever been! After watching your videos and going onto keto, IF, and cold showers I’ve lost 72lbs! while on Keto I ate a surplus of calories, Fasted and worked out in a fasted state and have not gone back to warm showers since burning all that brown fat, i recomposed my fat and muscle in my body and gained a healthy 11lbs mostly muscle, I carb cycle for one day a week and go back on keto for the rest of the week and repeat, it’s really changed my life. Thank you dr Berg for all the information you provide, you really are a person for the people, not all
Hero’s wear capes!
@The Great I gained so mgcg weight it was crazy, dr Bergs tips saved my life and I’m so thankful! Keto, IF, cold showers is what I live by, you’ll get as much out of it as you put in so discipline is key and so worth it!
@Terrence Laplant Just like weight lifting. Switch between heavy and light weights. Changing your exercise routine to change up the muscles. 👍
@The Great, Like a fire hydrant.
It’s great that he got his health under control.
@Ray J. lol
@Terrence Laplant Glad everything is alright. Keep at it
I follow your keto diet, and lost down to be able to fit into my old jeans. I was surprised, I knew I felt I was I was losing weight. This got my attention and REALLY became more serious about keto. Since, I have followed your advice my brain is less foggy (lol). My skin has cleared . Thank you hard to get everything on this text. I am working on not drinking red wine. Following your advice I am improving in many ways. I have what they say as end stage COPD? Not sure how the is rated. Been on home oxygen for 5 years, stopped smoking at the same time.

@fidel catsro – thank you for the Coles Notes. Well done.
Damn it… I thought this was going to be the logical conclusion. I’ve been doing great so far. Lost 25 lbs fasting for 21 days and then implementing Keto after. I’ve been doing this for the past 5 weeks in total. Sometimes i get a little tired and want to have pizza and a beer. I know I won’t feel good though.
I will eat the entire bag of Chedder Chrese and Sour Cream Ruffles. 😆
Going to head to the gym, as planned this AM.
Thank you, Dr Berg.
Keep going fella – you’ll feel great when you can look back at your success.
@Spam Mouse True! I’m already starting to feel great and would love for it to be a long-term lifestyle for me. Thank you.
Dr. Berg, thank you.. You are a voice of truth and goodness to our world in desperate need of great help. You saved my mother’s life. She had ovarian cancer and other lymphomas and only with your guidance she is free of cancer, it was amazing.. She is 76 and looks younger, with much beautiful fuller hair and full of energy. The oncologist was really surprised.
You are right in everything you teach us, we are all different and we need to know our bodies well enough in order to understand what it needs.. I wish you to write a book with illustrations about food, etc. A book for us to fallow you as our doctor in case tomorrow we can’t see you here. Thank you and God bless you..
Thank you, Dr. Berg! Your videos — especially your advice on eating and fasting — have made such a difference for me and my health. So grateful to you!
YES! This is a difficult thing to understand, at least it was for me . . . I’ve lived almost all of my adult life with the “everything in moderation” way of eating/drinking. While I’ve never had extreme weight issues, I’d always had a bit of excess body fat. In my 20s and 30s, I could fairly easily drop a few lbs here and there just by cutting portions and/or increasing exercise, but my overall body fat and weight slowly but steadily increased over the years, especially around my middle. In my 40s, the old tricks for losing weight stopped working entirely, and I was beginning to resign myself to thinking that this is just the shape I’m going to be in my later years. Then I came across videos from Dr. Berg, Dr. Ekberg, and Dr. Becky Gillaspy in spring of 2020 … I dropped the refined carbs and sugar first, and then started IF 16:8. I’m now 50, and I have NEVER been this lean and strong in my adult life (not even in my 20s). I am SO grateful to all of them. ❤
As healthy as I try to keep my diet, I still fall prey to bad eating habits. We know we should stop after just a few of those salty, greasy, delicious potato chips, but it’s hard to fight against the way our bodies respond to that degree of pleasure. Thanks Dr Berg for this excellent video.
