Today we’re going to talk about hair loss prevention and how to get thick hair naturally.
A common cause of hair loss is a hormonal issue involving excess DHT, which is a powerful form of testosterone. Typical medications for hair loss work by blocking DHT, but they come with side effects.
Potential side effects of hair loss medications can include decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and depression.
Excess DHT is a genetic issue for many people. Certain herbs can be beneficial to help thicken hair, but today, we’re going to cover things you can do that can keep genetic variations in check.
How to grow thicker hair naturally:
1. Address hypoxia
• Take vitamin D
• Avoid omega-6 fatty acids
• Consume omega-3 fatty acids (cod liver oil)
• Exercise
• Address anemia if applicable
2. Get plenty of vitamin D
• Take a vitamin D supplment (10,000 to 20,000 IU)
3. Take an l-lysine supplement or consume foods high in l-lysine
• Consume red meat, chicken, eggs, fish, seafood, and dairy
• Avoid nuts, grains, beans, and seeds
4. Fix insulin resistance
• Get on a low-carb diet
• Do intermittent fasting
5. Support healthy estrogen levels
• Consume phytoestrogens (flax seeds and sprouted legumes)
• Support the adrenal glands (take ashwagandha)
• Consume foods high in cholesterol

Great video. I have been experiencing this very same problem with DHT and I refuse all modern pharma meds and have been trying to correct with supplements and diet. Learned alot more this am.
1. Exercise, increase blood, take omega 3, reduce inflammation.
2. Vitamin D
3. Beef, red meet, fish, sea food, eggs, nuts,
4. Increase insulin, low carbs diet, cure insulin resistance, keto diet, IF,
5. Balance estrogen range, have good amount of healthy fats etc.
I just started making YouTube videos. Does anyone have advice on how I can improve?
@メイソン collagen strengthens hair, skin, teeth, nails.
It doesn’t grow them
he said to avoid nuts not eat them on step 3 btw.
@Random shorts on life That would only be true if they were also following all of the other advice in this video. Most meat eaters are not on low carb diets.
Most meat eaters are omnivores who have a lot of junk (soda, seed oil based condiments, bread, chips, fries, msg, etc.) with their meat.
Rosemary oil also helps. It reduces inflammation of the scalp.
@benjamin thery I’ve used it for about 18 months, with the essential oil diluted in a neutral carrier oil. My results are anecdotal because I’m just one person and I didn’t control for all other factors. My hair has definitively stronger growth. It’s thicker and there is less loss. It’s most evident in a very pronounced cowlick swirl that I’ve always had, but as I got older it became more evident because it was balding. It no longer is very evident because hair has grown back in the swirl.
Net net, I’m not so sure that you can say with certitude that rosemary oil does not work, nor can i say with certainty that it does. Controlled experiments would be useful for addressing the question. (Your claim that Minoxidil doesn’t work at all is not shown by multiple studies on male pattern baldness, where Minoxidil did significantly increase hair growth by about 45%.)
@benjamin thery, minixidil
( Regaine in Germany) works great for me! The problem is you have to use it constantly.
Btw, I had a terrible hair loss after i had covid in 2021. Then in spring 2022 I went to Italy and spent a lot of time outside. And – a hair loss stopped! I was not sure what the reason was, but I think now – Vit D deficiency!
During having the Covid, my hair was falling out in gobs. It was so depressing and disturbing. The sink was FULL, for weeks and weeks. It got EXTREMELY thin. It has come back, but definitely NOT totally.
Use castor oil on the scalp as a mask before washing out. I had the same thing and consistently doing this twice a week before washing for a while (months) has helped to bring back hair in areas that were slower to regrow. I would sleep overnight with it on when possible. You can mix with a thinner oil like argan or coconut to help it spread, as it’s very thick. Giving yourself a scalp massage with your head upside down when you apply is also good. All these things bring blood flow to the hair follicles and stimulate growth. My hair has recovered completely after around a year later, so it may take a while to get back all the growth – some areas of my hairline were the worse affected but it has come back. 🙂
Same here 🙁
Mix castor oil w Olive 🫒 oil and tea tree oil. Overnight or before showering. Works good Three times a week for me.
Me too! I actually lost massive amount each time I showered and almost got to dread showering. It felt like I lost about half the amount of hair which was severely depressing. You could see my scalp on top. I found rosemary oil and mixed it with almond oil as it really helped in reducing the amount of hair loss. My hair did grow back some but nowhere near it was prior to Covid.
Not just DHT , even thyroid problem is huge reason for hair loss
Low thyroid? Causes it..
Yes , more thyroid studies and if hair loss is from thyroid then what can we use? Vitamin E or D oil on scalp maybe.
Yeah and I have both unfortunately, ugh
@Mrs. V what’s the feeling of a low thyroid?? ..
Use a gentle but effective hairbrush to brush your scalp thoroughly at least twice a day. Your hair needs good blood circulation. Also go for a good walk most days.
..
I do 5 minute massage after calling the day
Thankfully my hair improved a lot after taking Dr Berg’s hair formula. The other thing I would recommend is fenugreek & onion hair mask weekly, besides what Dr Berg has mentioned in the video.
Put your body in an inverted posture, such as the head stand, very safely. Increase the time in this pose slowly to 10 minutes. This apparently reduces hair loss too.
It is also suppose to make your hair grow faster.
@Davey Mcc 😥😭😭🤧😣🐇
Davey: demanding doesn’t work. People can say anything they want. It’s up to you to verify. It’s not their job to convince you or do your research for you. “Remove the comment”. This is what’s wrong with this world. Telling others what to do
I’m sure being upside-down increases the circulation….which could help….but good exercise will be just as beneficial.
Although I’ve been a great follower and admirer of Dr Berg, all of his videos are highly valuable but this one was the most desired or THE MOST WANTED.
Another awesome video from the brilliant Dr Berg 👍💚🌷
Thanks Dr. Berg you answered some questions I was going to try and ask on your live show. 😊
Most welcome! Glad you found the video helpful!
I had issue of low stomach acid for long long time due to PPI given with TB antibiotics for one year. Doctors didn’t help, your videos did. Thanks a lot Dr. Berg💐💐😄🌽🍄🍅🍳🥝🥑
✌🏻😻✌🏻
I was doing keto and IF last month for half a week and i noticed a long line of my thinning hair growing back at the crown but i fell off to temptation 😫

@Dr. Eric Berg DC you often forget, when recommending Vit D, two things.
– Which Vit D – typically it’s Vit D3 (can you explain why D2 is covered by insurance, but D3 isn’t)
– It’s best to combine Vit D3 with K2, please always mention this
At 58, my hair loss resolved almost immediately by supplementing with vitamin D
That’s great. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I made a concoction for falling hair, and it seems to be working!
Coconut oil, castor oil, mustard oil, jamaican black castor oil, and fresh rosemary.
Boil all ingredients for a few minutes until the rosemary slightly changes colour.
Apply to your hair overnight (twice weekly), then shower the next day.
Yep, its a simple but effective one, I use castor oil, thinned down in a 1:1 with hemp oil + rosemary essential oil.
Thanks
This is a great video💯
We had a family friend who is a hairdresser and she cut all of our hair mom‘s dad’s mine…
And when dad started to lose his hair, he stopped brushing it and washing it. She told him it was the worst thing he could do. She said you need to wash your hair & use your fingertips to massage the shampoo to increase blood circulation in your scalp. & brush your hair everyday, for the same reason, to increase blood circulation in scalp.
Well, it usually depends on why it’s happening though. He might be going through a hormonal change, so messaging his scalp might not help.
I had a total hysterectomy at age 35, so I have no estrogen, no testosterone, and have been in “menopause” for 23 years already. Needless to say, I’ve been rapidly losing my hair to the point I have to wear a scarf. I lose a fistful in the shower, then another fistful when I brush my hair out. This doesn’t count all the hair that falls out throughout the day. It’s a lot. I’ve recently increased my Vit. D intake from 10,000 i.u. to 40,000 i.u., and I take Berberine as a metformin substitute. I do need to get more strict about the keto diet, however. That’s been hard because there are 4 other people in the house that aren’t keto, and I refuse to cook more than one meal, plus I hate listening to the endless bitching about my keto food, or worse, when I refuse to cook for them. Needless to say, they are my stressors, and make my life a living hell. Maybe someday I can grow my hair back, but I’m at the point of considering a wig.
With that high dosage of vitamin D, please make sure you are taking Vitamin K2 with it. It is very important so you don’t end up with calcium building up in you soft tissues (veins and brains). There are many options for D3 supplements with the K2 included in a balanced amount.
Also, you’ve probably heard about cinnamon for blood sugar as well. We have my dad on the Berberine instead of Metformin, but after awhile it wasn’t quite enough until we added the cinnamon with it. Just thought I’d mention it in case you ever get to the point where the berberine isn’t quite getting the job done on its own.
My goodness, I never understood why more hair ends up in my hairbrush around the time of end of my cycle! Thank you Dr Berg
