👍👍🙏
Thanks. Good lecture!
There is no U shaped curve when everyone in the study is high carb. Low carb, at least in the context of a ketogenic lifestyle, is 5% or lower. So, if you want to talk long term and speak in the terms of centenarians, there are no studies on low to zero carb (which I am) lifestyles and longevity. Yes there are studies recently and in the works now but it will be decades before we can prove that low to no carb (which I believe) is the way to go.
i also believe that low carb or no carb is the way to go but we should take into consideration the protein intake which is quite high
The good ole ZoneDiet, balance carb & protein, moderate amounts of healthful fats at each meal, lots of fiber, polyphenols…
That
I have read that Asian populations have adaptations to a higher carb/rice diet that Europeans don’t have.
Europeans survived on bread and potatoes for 10000 years and did well until the donut came 😂 from the STATES
I am diabetic… so low carb with healthy fats n proteins is the way to go. Do i have a choice? No. But i am glad i found a way out of my predicament. IF is a good tool for me as well.
Low glycemic?
Me too! Six years now on clean keto to keep my glucose in the normal range
You need the carbs for a physical active lifestyle. That’s also what they do in the blue zones. People also seem to be confused with simple and complex carbs. Basicly, you want to combine your carbs with fiber and protein in their most natural unprocessed form. Stay far away from liquid carbs, white sugar and glucose-fructose syrup.
My great grandmom lived over 100 and she never fasted and ate 3 meals with rice everyday.
That’s because rice is nice
Yesssss, you just have to look at the living proof of millions of people and what sets them apart. ❤
That’s all great but it doesn’t mean it was optimal for longevity. Of course, she doesn’t have to change anything but let’s say she optimized it further with occasional fasting, meditation etc and could live till 120.
@Lew I wonder where the concept of meditation actually originated from…….. 😀
dr greg fahy was able to reverse aging in humans by Metformin, Dhea, and Growth Hormon….. here is something strange…. GH boosts IGF in Liver, and Metformin tries to work against it, im confused here
If Carbs made you age faster. Frugivore/Herbivore animals wouldn’t outlive carnivores
Carnivores live a very different life. They have to fight always to get food.
that is because their digestive tract is designed to digest and absorb fruits and vegetables. humans are not herbivores.
what about a study of complex carbs vs simple carbs
Yes
Thanks Siim, great cadence and pacing of useful information. Really appreciate your perspective.
My grandparents survived the war. During the war nobody was fat according to my grandmother. The involuntary fasting had advantages long after the war ended (for the people who survived)
After the war it was potatoes and bread and of course meat. Nobody was fat until all the USA foods came to Europe AND combining fat with carbs too much when not moving enough is a bad idea.
It’s polyunsaturated fats in processed foods that destroy cellular metabolism. Those Asian countries have longest life span but also they are seeing major increases in metabolic disease since they introduce processed polyunsaturated fats into their food system. Polyunsaturated fats leads to insulin resistance, not sugar. Polyunsaturated fats damage metabolism then you can’t properly process the sugar , then the body increases insulin
Some of this stuff is a real chicken and egg sort of thing.
