What is the actual procedure for a sauna? How can it be replicated for people without access to one? Thinking sitting in the bathroom with a hot shower going and maybe a space heater as well.
And was this controlled for behavioral factors? Might it be that people who focus more on their health take more saunas?
I find that when I take a hot shower, I am able to expel mucus by blowing my nose. The hot humid air loosens it and makes it come out easily. After this I always feel much better. Might that be a major factor in what sauna contributes to health?
Exercise mimics the effects
In my experience, by the time someone becomes a habitual sauna user, they have already mastered other areas like diet and exercise and are looking to go to the next level. So, I think the results are likely more multifactoral. I would still rate sauna use among the top lifestyle changes one could make. I invested in my own a few years ago. They’re simply magic.

Well, that’s what people in the West who don’t have a long history of sauna culture think. The average sauna-goer in Finland isn’t health conscious at all. They’re not on a good diet nor even exercising.

How does being out in hot weather & sunshine compare with sauna? Sure, UV rays won’t be good, but still getting infrared I imagine?

I live in South Carolina, it is a sauna outside most of the year!馃槀馃槀馃槀for realz! Because I run in this weather, at 60 I look way younger and feel great, but it鈥檚 brutal until you acclimate.

I recently purchased a sauna for my house. I’ve been getting in almost every night for 20 minutes, then shower and then bed. I feel even more amazing than I normally do. In addition to sweating, I think the hypoxia when in a sauna is also a great form of hormesis. Excellent video Siim. Thank you for the upload.

How does taking a sauna compare to just taking a hot bath?
is 30 mins in an infrared sauna good enough? They only reach temps of 150f/65c and I’m not sure if that’s adequate.

Would the small tents that have a steam sauna machine work the same as those large expensive wooden saunas?
