Today I’m going to cover the worst mistake people make when dealing with constipation and what to do for constipation.

Constipation is congestion in your gut—you have too much stool. Fiber increases stool volume.

Fiber also causes your microbes to create fermentation, which leads to gas and bloating. Some studies suggest that consuming fiber can even worsen conditions like chronic constipation or SIBO.

The biggest mistake people make when dealing with constipation is consuming more fiber.

How to deal with constipation naturally:
1. Reduce your fiber
2. Talk to your doctor about whether or not it’s a side effect of a medication (and what to do if it is)
3. Consume vitamin B1
4. Lower your stress
5. Take bile salts
6. Take a probiotic
7. Do intermittent fasting
8. Consume a moderate amount of protein
9. Consume betaine hydrochloride and apple cider vinegar
10. Consume magnesium and potassium

    • Agreed. I am in medical community as well, unfortunately. The most mind blowing to me is prescribing proton pump inhibitors long term for indigestion. Before watching Dr. Berg, I always wondered how completely shutting down acid production can help indigestion? But that is what I have been seeing at least ten times a day. After watching Dr. Berg’s amazing informative videos, now I understand how the digestion system works and how medical professionals wreck patients’ bodies with PPI keeping them ill for life long to the point something simple as indigestion becomes a chronic illness to them. A lady at our pharmacy, who has been on rabeprazole for past 10 years is now prescribed amitriptyline (i have no idea why) because rabeprazole won’t work anymore and she was in tears as her indigestion and bloating is so bad. So yeah.. i agree with you.. don’t listen to medical community. Thank God I found Dr. Berg. I try to educate customers who come to me for advise based on what I learned from Dr. Berg. I am a pharmacist.

    • @ceeweedsl Yep
Natural sugars in (very tiny amounts) on an irregular basis and as long as we burn it off right after, no harm done.

    • @jane doe Yes, I saw this with both my parents and did research on the acid issue and PPIs years ago though not with Dr. Berg specifically. My 87 yo mother has since switched over to Betain HCL and is doing much better with her GERD. It’s quite clear that blind trust in the mainstream solutions will lead you in the wrong direction much of the time. It’s also clear to me that mainstream does get many things right at times so I take each issue on a case by case basis, not rejecting nor accepting blindly. Alternative medicine has many points of failure or misunderstanding as well but we revel in the success and good on that. View all diagnosis and solutions with reasonable skepticism and apply due diligence in all cases, mainstream or otherwise. But as wrong as they sometimes are, it’s foolish to reject mainstream out of hand.

    • No. You just have to research multiple references. Dr. Berg, sinclair, huberman, elijah muhammad, and. Gov sites. When they’re all in agreement on a food, you’re good to go.

    • @Dr. Eric Berg DC . Hi doctor. You have mentioned that lack of bile causes constipation and its true since I have experienced that. I had my gall bladder removed recently. Please can you advise me on the types of food to eat and which to avoid.

    • Thank you so much for your videos! I had a misfortune, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I also created a channel and am trying to move in that direction, but so far not very successful((vy

  1. Bile Salts, thank you Dr. Berg, now that my gallbladder was removed my gut has been crazy. And yes I constantly have that pain on my right side. Again, Dr. Berg is saving my life one video at a time!!

    • It’s interesting that many docs in older days used to prescribe ox bile to patients that had gall bladders removed. Anything that actually works they’ve drummed out of health care over the years.

    • I have no gallbladder and a constant pain on my right side. Can you please share what you are doing for it. I have Tudca, bile salts and Betaine HCL. But I don’t know how to use it properly. I took one of each tablet after eating and it hurts my stomach so much. I really don’t know how to use it!

    • @Nan’s Global Kitchen ihave ssme issu since gallbladder removed in oct.i go few wks no pain then i have a week or 2 of constant pain as if i still have a gallbladder.its painful and i cant harsly eat at all during that time.

    • @Nan’s Global Kitchen eat a Kiwi fruit minutes before starting to have your meal,Kiwi fruit contains certain enzymes that help break down proteins & fats.especially good with a heavy or main meal.those enzymes in Kiwi fruit won’t allow jello to set because they break down the proteins.& If someone has a cold sore on their lip tell them to lay down & place a slice of Kiwi on it for at least an hr .do it a couple of times a day for 2 days & it should be gone.

  2. For me: I rarely suffer from constipation since I added veg like leeks & celery to my daily routine. yet I do suffer a bit if I go out of my daily routine, like with dry fast, or if I go to dine outside and I end up eating junk foods. Thanks for the info Dr Berg 🌸

    • @Judah Make sure it’s organic, of course. I drink moringa tea with a tiny amount of unrefined coconut oil. Zeatin is an interesting flavonoid in moringa😊

    • @John Parsons Yeah it is. I use to take it years ago and now its become more popular over the years and they sale a organic one at my local Walmart along with other ones with chocolate/peanut flavor and protein.

    • @Martín Villagra Sodium is the least of the problems. It’s the chemicals, flavourants, preservatives and who knows what other toxins are in there. Sodium is generally not a problem. Dr Berg has a video on this misconception.

    • @Jean Dixon sorry to disagree, she explicitly mentioned it worsens with dry fasting. It’s obvious. The toxins you’re talking about don’t have such an immediate effect, sodium does.

    • @Martín Villagra Oh heck, yes – dry fasting for sure. I cannot understand the rationale behind dry fasting.

  3. When I was on the Standard American Diet, I went back and forth between constipation and diarrhea constantly. My stools were ‘normal’ only about 40% of the time.
I went Keto about 2 1/2 years ago, which morphed into carnivore several months later. I no longer get constipated, and diarrhea isn’t an issue unless I go super crazy on the fat (and then it’s only a problem for the first bowel movement after I eat.)
On carnivore, I poop a lot less frequently, my stools are smaller and a lot more regular, I don’t feel bloated, fart a LOT less, and life is better. Never going back.

    Thank you Dr Berg!! 🐱👍🏿

  5. Thank you Dr Berg , for your incredible work on educating us. Love you and your team. Have a great week. ❤️

  6. I had chronic constipation starting at age 5. I ate more Allbran as a child than most people eat in a lifetime. I could down a package of exlax with no results. Drinking more water translated into peeing more. Nothing else.
Another issue was arthritis in my knees and little pimples on my arms.
Diagnosed as gluten intolerant at 48. In less than two weeks constipation gone. Took several months to get rid of the arthritis and do not know when the pimples went.
A trace of gluten, back. I have learnt to limit fibre. Antibiotics also causes me chronic constipation. Thankfully it has been about 10 years since I needed them.

  7. Been using the Gallbladder Formula to help with burping and GERD but noticed it was also helping my constipation. Seeing this video it makes sense since it has bile and betaine hydrochloride. I can’t express how grateful I am to have my digestive symptoms almost under control after way too many years of stomach pain, constipation and burping. Thank you for all the great information Dr Berg!

  8. You’re an amazing man…..thank you for all you do….doing what 99% of doctors should be doing….investigating & sharing all of your knowledge…..you’ve changed millions of lives all over the world for the better….xoxo

  9. Hi, Dr. Berg. Thank you for all the work and research you put into making these great informational videos. I know from experience that everything you are saying is true.

  10. I have been fascinated by the human body since I was a teenager. I’m 61. I’ve dieted and fasted several times over the years. I do not believe the medical community, for the most part, cares about healing people from their dis-ease…. meaning, the pharmaceutical industry. There are definitely great doctors all over the world, and there are bad ones. Same as every industry. The lies about our health, particularly coming from the govt agencies, are truly unbelievable. And the sad part is most people (especially elderly) trust implicitly what the agencies say is for their health. There’s really no way these poor people would ever believe that they’ve been lied to. It’s frustrating that they can’t see the big picture.
Hope this makes sense. I have a hard time getting my point across.
Blessings of healing health to all

    • Just going to the doctor seems like they just want to give you pills they don’t get down to the problem you should tell you how to eat right like these videos in here.

    • I read that again. You absolutely DON’T have trouble getting your idea across. That was perfectly explained!!

    • absolutely spot on. i feel the same way about not being able to reach people that have been hypnotized but, at the same time i’m glad i figured it out early in life.

  11. Another good video that gets into a topic most people will encounter at some point, and continual constipation often has some other cause than a lack of fiber. It sounds lame but this myth causes people to not look into the reasons and complications that can occur. As others have said, I’d add water intake to that list.

  12. Thank you so much Dr Berg. I suffered from serve constipation, bloating, depression all my life and it got worse last 10 years with high fibre diet all the other doctors recommended. Only very recently I started to cut fibre and eat more meat, I finally started to see improvements and have hope in life again.

    • @Judy Bullard I just make a morning smoothie from Bran, Mixed Low Sugar Tinned Fruit, half a can, 1 Banana, hand full of Cale ( which you can freeze ) – Constipation gone.

    • Me Too…! I’ve gone To Low Carb/Low Fiber eating with Time Restricted Eating (6 hour window) and I feel noticeably better than when I ate more vegetables.. Here is a Book You may FIND VERY INTERESTING.. “Fiber Menace” by Konstantine Monastyrsyk

  13. I’ve had no sign of constipation at all since adding 2-3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to my diet every day. Everything slides on through. Years back, Mum used to line us all up to have a big spoon of castor oil if one of us was constipated. That or fresh squeezed orange juice were the home remedies that worked. Good oils every day keep you regular.

  14. My Mum was just diagnosed with SIBO and has been talking to me about her diet, I will definitely share this video with her. Thank you Dr Berg!

  15. Omg Dr. Berg thanks for making this video. While my body was in metabolic disorder mess, my dr.s kept pushing the freaking fiber lacking phenomenon in my gut which actually choked me even more. Thanks to you after 3 yrs my body is on healing journey things are back to normal. Constipation is a gut problem which is partially affected by Gallbladder due to lack of bile and lack of bile can be because of things are not in their normal working order. ❤❤

  16. The one doctor who always so thoroughly understands the causes of conditions, and how to address them. Truly, Dr Berg, you are a miracle. I am so over current medical model just saying it’s fiber. ❤
