Metabolic syndrome may be a protective mechanism. Let me explain.

Today we're going to talk about the metabolic syndrome myth. Metabolic syndrome is also known as syndrome X.
Metabolic syndrome is a combination of several conditions, including:
• Abdominal obesity
• High blood pressure
• High blood glucose
• High triglycerides
• Insulin resistance
• Hyperinsulinemia
• High uric acid
Metabolic syndrome is typically treated with a lot of medications, and there isn't a well-known cause.
I believe metabolic syndrome is a protective mechanism. But it's not protective anymore.
Let's first take a look at glucose and fructose. When you consume glucose, receptors all over your body metabolize it. Fructose is a unique type of sugar that can only be metabolized by the liver. Fructose produces more fat and enhances the fat genes more than other types of sugar.
Early humans may have infrequently consumed fructose in fruit and honey as a survival mechanism for various reasons. These reasons that used to be beneficial are now contributing factors to metabolic syndrome.
We don't need fructose for survival anymore—in fact, it's hurting us. If you have problems related to metabolic syndrome, try avoiding fructose in all forms.

been doing IF for almost three years now. after starting i quickly reversed the following conditions: a fatty liver, insulin resistance, GERD/acid reflux/cramps after eating, joint pain, night sweats, restless sleep, and back pain. now i sleep comfortably on all four sides, do not overheat, no blood sugar swings and am comfortable in my clothes — basically like how it felt to be in my body when i was 10 years old. thank you Dr Berg for *everything.*
@Vanita Gomes i have a 4-5 hour eating window then fast for the rest of the day. i eat home prepared, whole foods and always have a dish of organic mixed greens. when i’m not in the mood for salad i use my immersion blender to make a green drink to which i add a little ACV and pepper, then drink that with my meal. it’s simple living and while it did take a few months for me to get used to thinking about food less it has been infinitely freeing. i can’t even imagine returning to “three squares.”
@Mery Moor has something to do with the way they’re processing foods these days I’m sure
Do you workout.
@Magic Woman no
*_Dr Berg, doing his thing so so well, as always …_*
I have been taking a potassium supplement twice a day with my meals to control my blood pressure and help prevent edema. Guess what? It seems to be working. I would never have thought about this but I was in the hospital last year getting full blood work done daily. My potassium was chronically low and they would not discharge me from.the hospital until my potassium levels were raised. (Sodium and glucose levels are normal.) No idea why my diet can’ t keep a good potassium intake I am trying to improve that, but will supplement until I get it figured out. I do eat sugar, but in limited amounts, I don’ t eat it regularly.
So sorry you had this issue with potassium. It seems like I have a little of this issues too. Can you please share the brand of potassium you are taking and the dosage as well. Thankyou in advance 🙏🏻
potassium and magnesium are two valuable supplements i will never be without.
Maybe need a salt bile to help absorb potassium or eat garlic… celery there is several foods that help with bile
Organic chia seeds are loaded with potassium just 2 Tablespoons

Mucho más gran información de Dr. Berg para mi. Gracias!
Yes. I used to believe that sugars from sweet fruits & berries were fine because of their fiber and unique nutrients. When I finally stopped them, some of my energy returned. Big improvements for me at that time.
I think as an odd treat, just fine. Fresh, wild blueberries are great. You must beat the bears to them.
The old food guidelines limit it to two servings a day. Still way beyond what I eat. I go weeks without any fruit, which matches up with nature. But still have the odd bit.
Now you have people who put 5 to 10 servings in a blender and drink it for breakfast. And think it is healthy. Then snack on fruit during the day.
Makes sense. I used to take 200g Pomegranate and 200g of Blueberries everyday and I couldn’t lose weight on 18:6. Let the fruit go, replaced it with more kale/broccoli and lost 18 pounds in 3 months.
I have Metabolic Syndrome and this makes so much sense…I eat low carb but am going to be more mindful of fructose…I think it’s in my diet lemonade as well as my other flavored waters
With all of this information, I see yet another benefit of IF/OMAD eating habits. That helps me no matter what I eat!
There’s lots more to it that just simply doing that, but intermittent fasting and one meal a day are definitely very beneficial to helping with this stuff, at least in my personal experience.
Great informative video, Dr. Berg. 👍If taking potassium as a supplement, how much dosage do you recommend? And what brands? Thank you.

In other words, we AREN’T different. Everyone needs their liver to function properly. 🙏 Thank You, Dr. Berg.
No problem. Thanks for watching the video.
Great content, love it when you dig down into the weeds to get to the root of the issue. Please further this topic with the polyol pathway activation converting glucose to fructose.
I started to make sure I get enough Potassium the other week (based on a previous video) and I feel so much better. I’m dumbfounded that they did not teach us this in school. I think that would be handy life essential knowledge to survive and thrive.
How much potassium do you take in a day and can you please share your source of where you get the potassium from? Like dosage etc.Thankyou in advance!
I love his holistic approach taking evolution and lifestyle to consideration! My favorite Doc on YouTube
Thanks. Glad you like the video. Have a nice day!
I’d like to see you do a video on peptic ulcers and recurrence because I can’t get a straight answer if it’s NOT h-pylori causing it. Thanks for what you do.
I was told I had this. I opted to not get on all those meds and stopped eating sugar immediately. I had no idea I was starting a ketogenic diet. That was last June when I weighed 285lbs now I’m currently 170lbs still having to drop this last 40lbs but I’m not on any medication. I’m looking forward to seeing what my labs say when I go back this June for my yearly exam. Thank you Dr. Berg
