Let’s talk about how to get rid of phlegm in your lungs.
Common treatments for phlegm or mucus either suppress or pull mucus out. Anytime you suppress mucus, you may end up having the infection longer and weaken your immune system. Typical treatments also come with potential side effects.
Keep in mind that it’s important to exercise your lungs if you're dealing with phlegm. You can do this by alternating breathing through your nose using your chest and breathing through your nose using your stomach.
Radishes are one of the best foods to get rid of phlegm—if you can, try adding them to your diet.

Dr Berg, any time I take a quercetin supplement, my symptom goes crazy (histamine response). I don’t seem to have an issue with eating onions, but I can’t seem to tolerate any Quercetin supplement. Thoughts? I have a double MTHFR mutation, so I was thinking this had something to do with it.
I’m allergic to it also, and have MTHMR
What is MTHFR
Also try pineapple. That breaks up mucus
Mullein tea. I strain it thru a Melita coffee filter as it has hairs on the leaf.
My granmother used to make us drinks this with the ACV & ginger. She’d also make sure I always had a pitcher of orange juice or fresh squeezed lemonade because the citric acid cuts mucus.
Especially me because I grew up right next to an Agway & their giant piles of Lime for agriculture weren’t covered & made up most of the dust in our drafty old house.
Grandmothers are the best! Ours taught us so much! Love to hear advice and keep it going, from previous generations!👴👵
Great timing for this video … been coughing and getting phlegm out for a few days now 😫 keep up the great work Mr. Berg 🤗 … i have spicy ginger tea, mixed with half a squeezed lime and 2 tea spoons of honey 🧡
lol this must not be a mere coincidence i have it too! cant sleep at night due to constat coughing and spitting for at least last 5 days
I do this mixture with garlic instead of onions. It works miracles.
Thanks for the idea. Have a nice day!
@Dr. Eric Berg DC please guide me with excess nasal mucus is it bad i have had this since childhood i am constantly spitting it out sometimes have to swallow, does it cause issues in the stomach how do I reduce it. Thanks for all your priceless content.
@rc cl me to same problem. But warm salt water with turmuric powder mix will work of you do nasal cleaning.
One thing to be careful of is that a lot of honey being sold as honey in stores is not actually real honey or it’s heavily adulterated. Some of it is just corn syrup. There are loads of companies selling supposed honey but it’s just basically sugar syrup flavored to taste like honey with a little bit of real honey thrown in, so be on guard when u buy it and make sure it’s genuine 100% honey and not fake or a watered-down version. It’s more common than you realize.
Good to know
How can we test for this practice in honey we purchase
@UTexas Nurse buy local honey from a farmers market.
Thanks for the heads-up. I had no idea.
As a singer, one of the traditional things recommended to me years ago if I had to preserve my voice when I had a cold or flu was honey and lemon in hot water and sip it. Also a teaspoon of honey swallowed straight will smooth the throat and reduce the urge to cough if you have the urge to do so when singing.
Thanks for the tip. Have a nice day!
Thank you for this helpful information Dr.Berg! 👍 Love and light to you with many beautiful blessings , as well as all of your viewers! 💛✨️🙌
Thank you very much. Wishing you the same.
Wow this video is just what I needed. Dr put me on high blood pressure medication bout 10 years ago and shortly after taking it I got bad cough so I stopped the medicine but cough did not go away. I still have it today just not as bad and dr keeps telling me it’s allergies but none of that OTC stuff helped. I’m gonna try this Dr Berg. Thank you so much for all you do to help us.
You’re welcome. Hope this will help you. Take care.
Acting classes paying off for Dr Berg at beginning of the video. Truly awe inspiring! 😂 😂 thanks for all you do Dr Berg
There are two things that clear my Phlegm better than anything else. First, 15 – 20 minutes of exercise with intense breathing. That does wonders. Second, singing or speaking loudly. I know that might sound crazy but when I make voice narrations from work after an hour of speaking loudly my phlegm is almost totally cleared.
For me, the worst is when I sit around and don’t speak. I could have phlegm all day in that case
It’s true getting up and moving are the best I’ve found.
@ Jack Pitman Nica
That’s not crazy at all!!!
My grandmother use to have do that. 🎶 🎤 🎶
I can’t breathe/exercise very well with phlegm. I have to take an inhaler to help breathing before exercising. I suppose the cause of the phlegm is the reason for the various treatments. Then after exercise, I’m breathing great.
Moving around is also great for the lymphatic system.
Hey Dr. Berg will honey kick me out of ketosis if I have it on top of all the vegetables that I am having daily? it might get over 50g of net carbs and I am mostly sedentary due to an injury. I am asking because I am insulin resistant.
Thank you so much 🙏
I’m not a doctor but I think it’s quite likely honey will kick you out of ketosis.
I’ve started drinking grated garlic, ginger and lemons in the day. Will now be adding onions with cloves to this drink as one of my many arsenel home remedies fighting and winning systemic sclerosis. Can’t believe I’m working this disease that was once fading me away quickly. Life is good.😊❤
That is Amazing I’m truly very happy for you ❤❤❤❤
I was in the dining room listening to this and my three year old, from the living room mind you, yells “Dad did Dr Berg say I couId have some honey?” 😂
😂💕
🤣
I’ve been drinking apple cider vinegar, lemon and lime in my water once a day for almost a year and I’ve noticed that my allergies have been much better. Drinking this also helps to lose weight
I add olive oil to the lemon and ACV w/a little O.J. for taste, very comforting!!! (1tbs each)
Don’t for get the cinnamon.
My grandmother uses to eat onions like they were apples. Her and my grandfather were farmers. She never had allergies, never had phlegm. While I can only handle onions in moderation, i have an all new respect for them. Will have to cook them to add more to my diet.
When I was a teen I got bronchitis so bad I had to go to the hospital in Marin County, Ca – the doctor gave me Mullen plant drops to put in a small amount of water and take along with antibiotics. It’s was a very very fast recovery. Every time I took the Mullen drops my cough would stop immediately – so cool that I keep those drops in my medicine cabinet at all times. They call Mullen “the lung plant” for a reason….
How wonderful that your Dr gave Mullein, I wish more Drs wd do this, such a healing herb for the lungs, one of my favourites too. Have you seen it grow? The leaves are soft and gentle 😊
Yes, I have mullen leaves and make them into a tea. They strengthen the lungs.
Thank you so much I have never even heard of Mullen plant. I recently met a woman specializes in mixing herbs for certain things and I’m really excited about that. Every time my Mom to get sick she told me she would buy ginger root from the store and grind it up in her tea. I love learning about natural remedies and all different plants and herbs.
