Today I want to cover the best and worst foods for arthritis. This includes rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and other “-itises.”

Foods to avoid for arthritis:
• Fruits
• Nuts (except walnuts)
• Beans
• Whole grains
• Sugar
• Refined grains
• Trans fats
• Hydrogenated foods
• Seed oils
• Canned foods (except sardines or cod liver)
• Powdered protein
• High-oxalate foods

It’s typically recommended to avoid eggs, red meat, and dairy if you have arthritis.

However, it’s important to understand that grain-fed animals have a very different omega-6 to omega-3 ratio than organic grass-fed, pasture-raised, or wild-caught fish and animals.

Organic grass-fed whole milk kefir or organic grass-fed raw milk cheese may also be better choices than typical dairy products.

The best foods for arthritis:
• Wild-caught fatty fish
• Seafood
• Pasture-raised organic eggs
• Fermented vegetables (especially cabbage)

It’s also important to add intermittent fasting to your diet plan. It’s not just about what you eat but the frequency you eat that’s important in getting rid of arthritis.

  4. I’ve might said that in several comments before, but I still think that both turmeric & ginger root are the greatest foods ever for any bone probs. I actually almost have non because of these 2 root veggies. Thanks for the info Dr Berg 🌸

    • Do you use raw/fresh turmeric and if so, how do you use it in food and in what quantity? How do you incorporate ginger daily, if it’s fresh ginger?

    • @Universal Patriots Ginger works well in curries, however another DB follower in a recent video suggested finely chopped fresh root when you brew coffee in a Cafetiere, without milk or sugar. Tastes brilliant IMHO. I was looking to consume more as I understand it helps develop stomach acid. HTH.

    • @Universal Patriots it’s a fresh ginger,. I peel it, mince it in a food processor, then freeze it in small portions, and in small bags, same for turmeric.

    • @Spam Mouse It has too many benefits, for us as Middle Easterns: we use it for Arabian light roast coffee, along with ground cardamom, it can be used with lemon juice as a hot drink on its own, which is a traditional drink in South Asian countries, especially for flues and colds.

  6. I’m getting over my fruit addiction for sure. I haven’t cheated ONCE since going full nsng January 1st. But I’m still learning and because I’m an invalid with osteoarthritis this video is very important to me. ❤ ohhh I love almond milk 🤦🏻‍♀️ and almonds — I love chicken, spinach and chocolate. ❤ I’m a type -O and I have never eaten a lot of protein…ever! Lol maybe I should have but needless to say I’m not good at carnivore — if I had a good grocery store or farm near me I could do it however quite honestly at 70 yrs I’m blessed if someone makes me a meal — it’s incredibly difficult and make no mistake I hate a chronic malcontent however sooo I rely HEAVILY on Dr Bergs (among MANY others) supplements.
    And now I need to chuck my hemp protein powder?!?! Doc didn’t mention hemp protein however it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this one out 😢

  7. Doc, what is your opinion about chagas disease? Im curious because 70% of those infected dont shown symptoms on chronic stage, could there be a connection between one’s diet and how the disease progresses?

  8. I LOVE how my Comprehensive Metabolic Panel work, Lipid Panel, etc.. all came back, NORMAL! 🎉Last year, I got rid of fruits, oatmeal, broccoli stalks etc.. I added MORE grass-fed grass-finished beef, organic goat milk cheese, chicken, pork, and spring mix. I must admit.. My local farmers’ market eggs taste WAAAAY more earthy and are much more filling than the eggs I usually buy year round! 😊 I have to give thanks to Dr. Berg. 💯

    • Adding turmeric, a spice with anti-inflammatory properties, to your meals can provide relief for joint pain.

  9. Thank you, Dr. Berg! I have osteoarthritis, so I really needed this information on what to eat/what not to eat to reduce inflammation.

    • This is a copy/paste of my comment. It might help you.
      I ate a Mediterranean style diet for 15 years at which point osteoarthritis exploded in my left hip & knee. I suffered for 5 years thinking there was no solution then out of pure desperation I tried a low carb/Keto way of eating and like magic, I lost the 30 excess pounds I was carrying and 75% of my arthritis pain resolved in 3 months. I went from not able to walk 9 holes of golf to 10 hour hikes in the mountains with 1000+m of elevation. It took 2 years to get to 95% resolution of my symptoms and at 61 I’m looking forward to the rest of my life instead of dreading it. Thank you Dr. Berg and many others!

    • @Johnny Penso Thank you so much!! I have osteoarthritis in two fingers and my knee. I also have osteoporosis in one hip and osteopenia in my spine. Need to seriously eat all the right things in my diet lifestyle. I’m 62.

      I heard you say that you have a dwarf goat named Billy on your Q&A sho yesterday, and since “billy” means buck, I just wanted to say that a dwarf goat is not going to give nearly as much milk as a Sanaan or other larger goat. 🙂

  10. I ate sausages that were made from chicken and then I had chicken thighs on consecutive day as well as an Allmond flour pancake. Then I had some discomfort in my gallbladder. I checked out some videos about gallbladder discomfort from Dr Berg and realised that the omega 6 was irritating my gallbladder. So I cut out The chicken and the Armond flour pancakes. I took TUDCA And omega-3 supplement. I ate eggs and sardines instead. The pain is gone.

    • @Ivan Matusic Incorrect because I had lost that same 30 lbs a couple of years before eating that same Med. diet but limiting caloric intake and it had no effect on my levels of arthritic pain or any of the other nagging issues I was experiencing. The diet made all the difference.

    • Diet did the magic by lowering Insulin Resistance which is associated with Arthritis.I intend to know whether you had Osteoporosis only or Osteoporosis superimposed on Rheumatoid Arthritis.What were your RF and anti-CCP levels? Have Insulin Resistance tests been done? Blessed be.

    I would love to see a video about bread vs it’s toasted version. If toasted bread better for digestion, sugar content, etc.
    In the past few weeks I only consumed toasted bread and feeling better comparing when I consumed mainly normal bread.

  15. He’s RIGHT, he’s right, he’s right. 4 days fasting OR carnivore and almost ALL my inflammation is gone. I can walk, steps and even climb a ladder which is a daunting task while inflammation is in my body. I’m nearly back to riding again now that I know I’m not permanently broken. More fasting, carnivore while not fasting and I’ve almost gotten my real life back. It’s way too bad that I had to be nearly 60 to learn how to eat. My whole life, my body screamed for this relief. But NO… I had to listen to the professionals. Small meals, frequently, food pyramid yada yada yada. My body knew since I was a child it wanted farm fats and meat. I wasted my life not listening to my body.

  17. Doc, you forgot to mention fermented turmeric supplement. That’s what did it for me with a combination of boiled pineapple peel and you drink the juice for its bromelain and eating papaya for its papain enzyme!

After 20+ years of arthritis , widespread inflammation, heart disease now and a history of insulin resistance , first signs manifested in early twenties , the keto intermittent fasting is helping reduce these problems. Less arthritis pain , weight down to 14% body fat and better mental alertedness. Now I will focus on eating more specifically the recommendations of this helpful video . Much appreciated , thanks .

Every day, I consume green vegetables such as cabbage, kale, and tomatoes. I also supplement my diet with omega-3 from salmon and fish oil. Additionally, fruits rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, such as oranges, pineapples, and blueberries, have been very helpful. A healthy and balanced diet has helped me reduce pain and improve my quality of life.
