Let’s talk about benfotiamine. Benfotiamine is a fat-soluble form of vitamin B1. Vitamin B1 (thiamine) is normally water-soluble, but a fat-soluble version has several advantages.

Fat-soluble vitamin B1 can penetrate membranes made out of fat much easier. This is one reason why benfotiamine is so good for neurological issues.

Benfotiamine helps inhibit the formation of AGEs (advanced glycation end products). AGEs can lead to a myriad of issues, but benfotiamine is a potent antioxidant-type nutrient that inhibits the formation of glycation.

Benfotiamine also supports the myelin sheath and is needed for several enzymes in the mitochondria. If your cells don’t have B1, all kinds of issues can occur. Many of the complications of diabetes occur because of a lack of vitamin B1.

Benfotiamine is especially important for people with diabetes. It targets inflammation and oxidative stress and supplies the B1 you need for your enzymes and mitochondria, all while inhibiting the formation of glycation. It also helps increase the number of mitochondria you have, which increases ATP (the fuel for your tissues).

However, it’s also important to get on the right diet plan. Check out my other videos to learn more about the best diet for diabetes and other health concerns.

  1. Great video as always! I’ve learned so much with the various vitamins and supplements through Dr Berg. One question for me is to understand how to combine them into a dosage regime to keep it effective, and costs low.

    • Best advice is don’t take it if you’re not getting any of the symptoms. If symptoms don’t improve, stop taking it.
This is an antioxidant that comes with its drawbacks, specifically that oxidative stress is a requirement for building muscle, and oxidation is a requirement for muscle healing and energy recovery.
There is a reason why people who take powerful antioxidants such as “resveratrol” report a significant decrease in performance and recovery.
Even with supplements such as Vitamin C that showed a decrease in performance, recovery, and muscle gained in those taking Vit C vs. those that aren’t.
Unless you have an imbalance or deficiancy, then dont take it.

  2. You have saved my life Dr Berg. I was suffering from dysautonomia since march after getting sick with a viral infection. I started having strange symptoms like heart palpitations, POTs, cold feet and hot forehead without fever, cold intolerance, dizziness and anxiety which was turning into panic attacks. I did my own research and found that my symptoms are matching a lot with thiamine deficiency. I started thiamine 500mg along with a b-complex, magnesium and a good quality probiotic and I’m feeling much better. I cannot thank you enough for your life changing content but still a big thanks from my side. 🙂

  3. I was wondering if compression socks actually help? I have been doing the keto diet for the last 2 1/2 months and I’ve lost 41.4 pounds, I’ve learned a lot from your videos. Thank you 😊

  4. Great content Dr. Berg.. I’m sure you are aware of the glycocalyx inside the blood vessels, perhaps you should adress that protective barrier and how sugars/glucose affects it.

  5. Thank you so much for all information you are giving us!🙏🏻I have taken benfotiamine a couple of months now with different vitamines also Ashwaganda. It has helped me a lot in many ways. I’am grateful for your time, the knowledge, advice and these video clips for us to learn and understanding better of our body!😍❤️🙏🏻👌🏻

    • @Dr. Eric Berg DC It means a lot to know how the body works and affects you in different ways. Above all, to understand why and get it confirmed to be able to get better through different ways through diet, vitamins and the mindset. I have been told that there is nothing to be done and I have to live with numerous problems and pains. But I have never given up and searched for a long time that there must be something to learn a better understanding of how everything is. With your help as you do, I have listened many times, summarized and tried different ways. The improvements with benfotiamine have resulted in a short time. For which I thank you very much! Bless you!🙏🏻🙏🏻

  6. Only if so many people would really know and understand this or unless they are too stubborn to! Thank you, Dr. Berg for your great knowledge and hard work that you put into wanting to get people healthy!!!!

  7. Once, my friend Mary shared a story about her experience with Benfotiamine and its remarkable effects. Mary had been suffering from nerve pain caused by inflammation for a long time. After starting to use Benfotiamine, she reported a significant reduction in pain and a noticeable improvement in her overall quality of life. Additionally, she also noticed an improvement in her cardiovascular health and an enhanced mental clarity. Mary’s story is a clear testament to the unique benefits of Benfotiamine in supporting nerve health and overall well-being.

  8. Another great video. I just started on bentofamine. Didn’t realize it was fat soluble. Working on targeted exercises to get rid of the invisible organ fat.

  9. I mix it up. I’ve been on a high dose B1 regimen for 3 months now to great effect. I started with Benfotiamine at 900mg and a liquid B1 with my magnesium before bed. No more “jimmy legs” at night. I then bought a bottle of Thiamax, which is uses Thiamine Tetrahydrofurfuryl Disulfide at only 100mg ( it is more bioavailable so I don’t need the super high dose ). I think using ANY form of B1 is gonna help most people.
My system has improved greatly since starting this regimen. Best of luck to Team Berg Fans out there.

  10. I like how Dr Berg explains his stuff, kudos to our Knowledge doctor. I am learning a lot from his videos. I am showing off my new look through healthy keto and intermittent fasting. I am getting there !

  11. Perfect timing once again for this vitamin, I’ve been trying to understand the difference between B1 and Benfotiamine from what I’ve been reading, should I take both ? Thank you so much Dr. Berg!! 💙

  12. Had been getting worsening odd seemingly unrelated symptoms (panic attacks, jumpy heart, shaking, insomnia, inability to exercise, iBS) and saw one on your videos on B1 deficiency
I stated taking benfotiamine and thiamine and it made me myself again (almost)
Thank you! Without you, I’d have gone through exams and testing with several specialists, been put on horrible medications and never recovered my health

  13. I’ve been taking Benfotiamine for the past 2 weeks after seeing one of your videos. The nerve pain I had in my feet and legs are gone. Thank you for teaching me how to heal my body Dr. Berg.

    • @Dr. Eric Berg DC Hi Dr Berg, there is a lot of talk about sugar eating away at your arteries… in my past I ate more sugar than you can imagine… for the past 2 years I have stopped completely and eat keto… I would like to know what to eat to directly target the recovery of my arteries… thank you.

  14. Superb video!
My daily dose of knowledge 😃👍
Trauma/chronic stress/chronic sympathetic driven state has caused my severe gut problems. Leaky gut, inability to absorb nutrients and severe insulin resistance. This cumulatively has caused debilitating symptoms.
I believe the benfotiamine, along with fasting, and a strict keto diet is greatly helping me regain my health.
    Stay the course!
Thanks to you and your health family for all you do!
    Peace love and blessings!

  15. Thank you Dr. Berg. I have learned so much from you, and my health has improved greatly.
    ❤❤👏🏼🌟❤️

  16. Dr Berg, All your videos on Benfotiamine has immensely helped me. Even at A1C 6.2, I started getting burning sensation in my palms and my eyesight got slightly blurry. All that reversed after I started taking Benfotiamine. My sleep pattern also improved a lot. I take this Vit. after dinner and I get very good sleep now. My doctor wasn’t even aware of this vitamin and when I told him about my experience he said he will research on this and asked how to spell Benfotiamine?

  17. Thank you, Dr Berg!
I’ve been taking B1 Benfortomine, for two months.
    My A1c went from 13 to 5.8.
    May God Bless you❤
    Also, keeping carbs under 50.

  18. I got this version of B1 relatively recently and keep forgetting that’s fat soluble. I am so used to taking B group vitamins with water at any old time because they’re usually water soluble, but with fat soluble vitamins they need some kind of fat or oil to bind to in order to be absorbed properly. I’m glad I saw this video as it acts as a reminder to me to take the Benfotiamine at the same time I take my other fat soluble antioxidants (such as E) which I usually take straight after a meal which has some amount of fat or oil in it. At a pinch you can use full cream milk and chug it down with that. As long as it has some fat to bind to.
