Let’s talk about what causes right-sided rhomboid pain and what to do about it. Many times if you stretch or massage the muscle, the pain comes right back. So, we’re going to talk about how to really get rid of rhomboid pain.

Your rhomboid is a muscle between your mid-back and scapula. You have rhomboid muscles on both your right and left side.

Typically, the actual cause of rhomboid pain is a problem in the diaphragm area, sending signals up to your neck, irritating certain nerves, and referring pain to the rhomboid.

Three organs under the diaphragm are involved in this referred pain: the gallbladder, the bile ducts, and the liver. Any number of problems with these organs can refer pain to the rhomboid.

If your rhomboid on the left side is causing you pain, it may be referred pain from the pancreas. The same natural solutions apply to whether or not you have pain on your right or left side.

Avoiding and consuming certain foods may help improve this issue to the point where you no longer have rhomboid pain.

The top foods that irritate the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts:
• Grains
• Sugars
• Omega-6 oils
• Nut butters
• Alcohol
• Junk foods
• Processed foods

Consuming heavy meals or frequent meals can also irritate these areas.

Instead, try consuming meals that consist of high-quality protein, fats, and vegetables. I also suggest doing intermittent fasting.

Natural remedies to support the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts:
1. TUDCA
2. Bile salts

If the pain is not referred, try using mobility sticks to help you stretch your body and relieve the pain.

  1. I used to have shoulder pain and a few rotator cuff tears in my life. Once I started to dead hang for a minute a few times a week. Pain and tear free for over decades now.

  2. My mum is a diabetic and hypertensive and she has this condition for sometime now. Multiple visits to doctors office and a lot of x-ray but they can’t figure the cause. Thank you dr berg. I’m learning more from you.

  3. Contract the rhomboid muscles by bringing the two shoulder blades together.whether you are sitting or standing, bring the two shoulder blades together towards the spine.hold this position for 5 seconds with your arms sideways.repeat this exercise for two sets of 15 reps each.

  4. I’ve been dealing with this issue for over a decade now. Just gotten a little worse as an adult & I have more discomfort than pain(like my upper RT side has been over worked) I was always told it was a knot in that area that was in he cause and it shall eventually go away. The examples you’ve described is what I do everyday. I tried the “ under the rib” technique and it worked!! I’ve done a diet change last year where I did OMAD of fresh fruits and veggies & lost 30lbs in 30 days (only did it for weight loss) but noticed my discomfort was practically non existent🙌 I’ll definitely switch back along with including your regiments. Thank you Doctor!🙏You are a true healer ❤️

  5. The only foods that caused me this kind of pain ( regarding the gallbladder) were protein milkshakes, or meal replacements as they call them, and I guess Dr Berg is right when he says that we have to eat varied real balanced foods, which are full of protein and less in carbs. Thanks for the info Dr Berg 🌸

  6. I had so much arm and shoulder pain and my trainer had me stretch my rhomboid and like a miracle it resolved my pain.

  7. I had my gallbladder removed 20 years ago. I’ve had this pain since. I went to the chiropractor and they asked if I was in a car accident. ( locks up right side of neck and shoulder pain) I went to the doctor and same response. Here it is my liver. Thank you Dr Berg! I’ve been doing everything you say since February 1, 2023. I’ve lost 30lbs and no pain. I have a cheat day every 2 weeks and what happens? Pain! No more cheat days for me.

  8. Thank you, Dr. Berg. This is currently my favorite channel. Your content is extremely helpful personally and no doubt globally. I’ve experienced some of the problems you mention throughout the channel myself but never had a clear explanation or understanding of what was happening, but fortunately thanks to you and the knowledge you share, now I do.

  9. Hi Dr. Berg you did this video definitely for me. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you so so much. I have been having this right shoulder, right side and all my right side pain for years. I especially have them when I eat meat and on my menstrual cycle. All doctor said it’s endometriosis and all. I took so many medication and none really works. I am just pain tired of going to doctors. I tried the vegan diet got some relieve but seem to be lack of b12, also did the keto and lost a lot of weight on my belly area but have the pain on the right but now I think I need to do keto the right way with more vegetables. Oh God bless you Dr. Berg and your family thank you again and again. We are 2 of a kind love helping people we are born in the same month.💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

  10. Dr. Berg, your videos are easily the best health and nutrition oriented videos available. I thought I knew a heck of a lot about these topics, but every one of your videos provides tons of new information I never knew about. Thank you! By the way, in some of the photos of you attached to some of your videos, where you are pointing at something, it looks a little bit like the iconic 007 poster pose! 😃

  11. I’ve dealt with rhomboid pain for probably about 30 years. It almost feels like I’m getting stabbed in that area if I’m on vacation and doing lots of walking. After I lay on my back for a couple minutes it would relax and then slowly tense back up.

Most doctors I’ve seen over the years were pretty worthless. They would just prescribed muscle relaxers which is not helping the underlying cause.

Ive been weightlifting for 28 years and no amount of strengthing helped either. Three years ago I went to see a sports medicine doctor who sent me to an amazing physical therapist. She diagnosed me with extremely tight pecs, tight lats, weak serstus anterior, weak middle and lower traps. Basically my pecs were pulling my shoulders forward and my rhomboids were doing all the work to hold them back with no help from the middle or lower traps. They would quickly fatique and hurt. She gave me a few dozen stretches and strengthing exercises to add to my routine. It took about a year, but I have zero rhomboid pain now. I can stand all day with no issues.

All this worked improved my workouts too. My shoulder range of motion is amazing…better than its ever been. To this day I still use all of her stretches and strengthening exercises mixed onto my regular program.

  12. Been dealing with this issue for a few days now. Happened suddenly while fixing my load on the road. The timing for this video is giving me a spiritual boost lol.

  13. I had this problem for years and always thought it was my neck. After going Keto and intermittent fasting last Fall, I no longer have this pain. I also got rid of my hot flashes! Thanks Dr. Berg. I often recommend your channel and share videos with friends and family.

    • This can cause hot flashes or was it due to something else? I’m asking because I’m having the same problem

    • @Summer I was in peri menopause. Hot flashes not too bad other than middle of the night. The diet change really made a difference. I realized they’d stopped about 3 weeks into Keto.

  14. I had this exact problem 3 months ago, where I had deep tissue massage & it did provide temporary relief (but came back). Then separately, through watching some other Dr.Berg’s videos & my own research – I was taking better care of my liver/bile ducts & since then the pain in my right Rhomboid has completely dissappeared. Thank you Dr.B. 🙂

  15. I m suffering from right shoulder pain and rhomboid pain and pain in scapular border area for a long time, and I was searching Dr berg videos since few days, I hope this works for me. Thank you Doctor!

  16. I so appreciate that Dr. Berg explains the problems & symptoms & comes up with tried & tested solutions. He’s not only the Knowledge Doc, he’s s also the Solutions Doc. 👏🏼

  17. I had this very problem for over 25 years. Consulted with dr.’s, surgeons, and saw a multitude of physiotherapists, and nobody offered a single viable theory as to the underlying cause, nor a viable solution. It took Dr. Berg’s videos and changing my diet to very-low carb (mainly carnivore), zero seed oil, zero sugar, and a weekly 48 hour water and TUDCA fast to completely resolve the problem. Thank you Dr. Berg! I owe you one!

  18. Thank you Dr. Berg, I thought I was struggling with an old sports injury, but a few years back I followed your advice on how to treat a fatty liver (college days of every day drinking and pounding a loaf of peanut butter sandwiches nearly a day) and I just realized how long it has been since that area has hurt me.

Thank you so much for the healthier liver and better back 😊👍
