Let’s talk about the unique benefits of magnesium glycinate. Magnesium is involved in over 300 different enzymes and comes in a lot of different forms.

Magnesium glycinate is a combination of magnesium and the amino acid glycine. This combination increases absorption in the intestine. Magnesium oxide, sulfate, carbonate, and hydroxide are all poorly absorbed.

Magnesium glycinate is also very gentle on your stomach and is less likely to cause diarrhea, like other forms of magnesium can.

Top benefits of magnesium glycinate:
• It promotes overall relaxation and muscle relaxation
• It supports sleep and may help with insomnia
• It improves energy during the day
• It supports healthy blood pressure
• It regulates calcium
• It reduces the risk of kidney stones
• It increases insulin sensitivity and promotes healthy blood sugar
• It may help with migraines
• It may help with depression and anxiety
• It may help reduce stress

To increase the absorption even more, find a magnesium glycinate supplement that also contains vitamin D3 and vitamin B6.

You can take magnesium glycinate with or without food. The best time to take this form of magnesium is right before bed. However, taking it at other times of the day won’t make you feel tired, just relaxed. Consider taking between 100 mg to 400 mg daily, depending on the severity of the issue.

Taking high amounts of magnesium glycinate over time may lead to slightly lower blood pressure or contribute to diarrhea. Also, keep in mind that magnesium glycinate may interfere with certain medications.

To get more magnesium in your diet, start consuming more leafy green vegetables.

  1. Thank you Dr. Berg for sharing the different types of magnesium and their absorption potential. My knowledge was limited magnesium citrate, the laxative.
    Have a great day!

  2. Good info. FYI, other source that we find easily in France, is Argile. It’s an extract from the ground, it’s used for beauty a lot, but as a therapist, i use it for magnesium too. The Green Argile coming from region of Provence in south France. It’s a good source to heal all sort of things: gut inflammation, gastritis, antifungal, antidiarrhea, détox, it’s full in electrolyte so I use it for fatigue as well, etc. Etc. The Green one is full with absorbable magnesium, but there are several types: red one good for ion decencies, white one for severe diarrhea, etc. Etc. Thank you. Hannature.

  3. Thanks for continuing god’s work in spite of all the mainstream health organisations businesses not really supporting it! I’ve taken away tons of valuable information from all across your videos!

  4. I’m working out really hard, 6 days a week and used to get severe cramps in the abdominal muscles. I’ve been taking Mg Bisglycinate 200mg for 40 days now and indeed no single cramp, no diarrhea, no sleep problems. 100% accurate video from personal experience.

  5. About every 6 months I’ve been changing between magnesium l threonate and Glycinate and haven’t noticed any difference between them; I take it mostly for brain health after having a craniotomy for Traumatic brain injuries, including subarachnoid haemorrhage and blood clots 3 years ago and to help prevent seizures, although after the first seizure I remember having 7 months after surgery when I split my head open at the crown, leaving a huge pool of blood, which healed very quickly, within 24 hours but leaving pains like severe migraine headaches, magnesium citrate sorted that out in one night. As I take magnesium twice a day, I’ll try taking l threonate in the morning and glycinate at night, although I also take lower amounts with sodium, potassium, and B6 in water during or after endurance or high-intensity exercise during the day, so in total, not including from food I’m taking about 1300mg of magnesium a day; in July my blood count results showed my Serum magnesium level at 0.81 mmol/L (normal range 0.70 – 1.00 according to my report) so even with the apparent high dose I’ve been taking it looks like I could add more to that; the amounts in a lot of supplements are likely not as high as they’re claimed to be anyway.

    • Good for you, I think you are winning. I’m such a fan of magnesium L-threonate and my brain seems to be getting revitalized.

    • He said in video blood test for magnesium level is a ineffective way to detect deficiency as 99% of magnesium is NOT in the blood . It’s inside the cells. Go to video at 7:54 He was going to leave a link for the proper test .

    • You could try using magnesium oil (which is mag chloride disolved in wate)r which is absorbed transdermally – as Dr Berg says you will only absorb a portion of what you ingest by mouth.

  6. I’m so glad I saw this video, Doctor. I wanted to take magnesium but knew little about it. You’re so informative. You’re like the encyclopedia of nutrition. Thank you

  7. Magnesium changed my life. I had debilitating insomnia and anxiety, and would almost always be awake for several days straight with literally 0 minutes of sleep before finally passing out 16+ hours. Desperate, I went to a naturopathic doctor who told me to go on a low histamine diet and supplement with magnesium. Within one month I began sleeping restfully every night, and my anxiety nearly completely disappeared. It’s been several years, and I still take magnesium every day, enjoying these same benefits.

  8. Wonderful topic!! I take both the citrate and the glycinate. I take 800 mg of each with no ill effects. Been taking citrate version for years and years. Once it was in my system, the nocturnal Charley horses subsided. Oxide is the one most available at all the stores though and I don’t touch that one.

  9. I take an all in one triple complex magnesium which contains malate, glycinate and citrate. Has reduced my heart palpitations by 95%. Truly has made a huge difference.

  10. I’m a cancer patient and this is the form of magnesium I’ve been using for awhile now. Cause no gastric problems and keeps my magnesium levels in the appropriate range. They always check magnesium before chemo.👍

  11. When I go to my Doctor, she just Google’s everything? And I feel she doesn’t even want to talk to me?
Dr Berg is the best Doctor I have, I love this man.

  12. Magnesium Bisglycinate is attached to 2 glycine molecules. 🧐Attracts less water & has much higher absorption. Glycine also helps reduce pH in small intestine, supporting absorption & preventing Magnesium deficiency. Beneficial for improving Magnesium status, generally well-tolerated & unlikely to cause diarrhea. Involved in energy metabolism, muscle contraction, DNA synthesis, blood glucose regulation & reproduction. One of the most effective bioavailable Magnesium Forms.👍‍😎👍‍

  13. I bought magnesium glycinate just yesterday after hearing carnivore diet probably deficient in magnesium. Most magnesium citrate had sugar in them, so glad I picked the right one. Definitely saw these benefits immediately. Was able to have a nice bowel movement and slept like a baby the last 2 nights. Thanks again Dr Berg!

  14. Good video to watch because we don’t realize how rich our ancestor’s environment was in magnesium for millions of years we drank for magnesium rich streams, meat from animals that grazed on magnesium rich soils, soil was rich in magnesium for any plants etc this is no longer the case. our soils are long depleted and our rivers long polluted, our water sources purified. there is no way around getting enough magnesium. you have to accept some supplementation on this one imo

  15. This advice is “primo”. I have personally experienced such an improvement regarding many of the symptoms discussed in this video. Thank you Dr. Berg…..You are a blessing!

  16. I started taking a magnesium tablet with lysine and glycine and my insomnia was cured overnight. And not even the full serving. Just 50mg did the job. Powerful stuff. Edit: 100mg not 50

  17. I would like to see a list of all the supplement brands Dr Berg strongly stands behind so we can all avoid the garbage ones. Thumbs up if you agree 🙏

    • I have excellent vitamins/supplements recommended by my practitioner they are the best of the best! A few brands are Biotics Research, Standard Process, Food Research, Designs for Health, Klaires Labs etc… I would never use over the counter vitamins/supplements sourced from China as you don’t know what you’re getting & could cause more harm than good
