Today, I want to cover the symptoms of a vitamin B6 deficiency you may have never heard of before.

“They” say it’s rare to become deficient in vitamin B6. However, it’s possible to have a subclinical B6 deficiency that still affects your well-being, even if it’s not a full-blown vitamin B6 deficiency.

Vitamin B6 is important to support a healthy body. Typically, there are no side effects of taking vitamin B6 if you take less than 200 mg daily.

If you take too much vitamin B6, you could experience toxicity effects. However, you would have to consume over 1000 mg of vitamin B6 per day to cause any issues.

Foods rich in vitamin B6 are:
• Beef
• Pork
• Fish
• Chicken

It’s pretty well-known that if you have low vitamin B6, you may experience symptoms, including:
• Rashes around the nose
• Cracks or rashes around the mouth
• Pink eye
• Anemia
• Neurological problems
• Numbness in the hands and feet
• Depression

Surprising symptoms of a vitamin B6 deficiency:
1. Inflammation (especially gut inflammation)
2. Inability to control polyunsaturated fatty acids
3. Deficiencies in neurotransmitters
4. Inability to convert ALA to DHA
5. Poor selenium function
6. Inability to convert tryptophan to niacin
7. Alopecia
8. Seizures
9. High homocysteine levels
10. Increased risk of autism
11. Increased risk of gut pathogens

Causes of vitamin B6 deficiency:
• Processed foods
• Diuretics
• Blood pressure medications
• Antibiotics
• Birth control pills
• Alcohol
• Pregnancy or lactation
• Smoking
• Herbicides
• Ginkgo biloba

  1. I can always remember having weird things happening to me when I was young that no one else got. Made me think i was crazy or going insane so I would never tell anyone but as I have aged and grown more in my knowledge and as I get older. All they were was just having deficiencies, when you’re a kid you knew no better. Everyday a school day, always learning.

  2. There goes the B3 deficiency connection. WOW! Even more of a reason I don’t consume CORN/GRITS, (Icein) processed vegetables 🥦 How to appreciate a glutathione S-transferase enzyme. Thanks a bunch, Dr. Berg!! Happy Tuesday, everyone. 💪

  3. Someone will be asking: What food is highest in B6?

The richest sources of Vitamin-B6 include fish, beef liver, tuna, salmon and other organ meats.

  4. Hi Dr Berg. I am from Thailand and would love to have a consultation by zoom with you if possible. I have urine test and malabsorption and yeast fungal overgrowth shown in the result.
First I would like to thank you for helping me heal about the stomach acid. It was a life saving. You advice to take Betaine HCL for acid reflux and without watching your video I would never solve my health problem with stomach low acid.
Thank you so much for everything you do. But I would love to have you do a consultation and reading my result. Thank you

  5. I did eat a lot of fish, daily with my OMAD, but I didn’t have much luck in reversing some symptoms until I started consuming Kefir! I’m really glad you pushed for that! Thank you!

  6. Holy Cow, the symptoms you stated at the beginning of this video are all symptoms I had as a child…around 9-11, including the depression!!! I am now 67 and trying desperately to heal my body from my prior life, and so much of the damage happened in childhood. I tried to eat healthy as an adult, but things like probiotics where not even talked about, let alone the bad advice like eating no butter, and only whole wheat. Then, poverty has its own set of issues.

  7. Dr. Berg, I like to see your videos and helped a lot! It would be nice to have a book with all the problems caused by vitamins deficiency. It would be handy and also goid like a present. Thank you for all your info you are giving us❤

  8. People need to be aware of the fact that despite B6 being water soluble, it has a long half life of 25-33 days. In other words, B6 stays in your body for months before it is eliminated. Correcting toxicity can be a tricky affair given its long half life.

    • unfortunately I have a high level of b6 what do I do to bring it down I don’t take any supplements not sure why it’s so high…i do take a vitamin D supplement do you think it caused increase in B6

    • @net nanny Do you currently have any toxic side effects associated with high B6 such as neurological and low BP problems? Also, have you considered retaking the blood test that shows you have high B6 elsewhere?

    • @davenetonlineyou seem to be educated in B6, may I ask how you know about B6 toxicity? Did this happen to you.. do you know what neurological conditions it causes?

  9. Dr. Berg, thank you for your daily videos. I now watch 1-3 videos every am while having my am coffee. I ordered a probiotic supplement from you for my mother who has suffered from gut issues/diarrhea for 2 years now. 🤞 that she gets some relief.

    • OO have you ever tried Kefir? You can make your own too it takes a day. Even make it out of storebought Kefir by mixing milk in with some of the pre bought Kefir. It is good stuff.. Tangy, delicious, calcium vitamin d etc. I am sure it would be better with actual raw unprocessed milk, or goat milk, etc. But still full of pro and at least the grassfed organic brand said pro and prebiotics. The grassfed one I tried did not work as well oddly. And was less tangy, more thick and creamy. But yea.

  10. I control my severe problem with trigger finger by taking P-5-P daily. For me, it takes between 200mg and 400mg per day. It works over the long term of a few months. No adverse reactions at all.

  11. If you have not, can you make a video on Okinawa? And/or regions where people live to be 100 and still walk around and seem healthy compared to 60 year olds in USA. It may seem obvious to most of us, but still good content to spread, and information needed to some if not most. For example their diet, lifestyle, water they drink, and the mindsets of the people etc. Up to you, but I think it would be a great idea. Again I am not sure if you may have a video, or at least have brought it up in another video of yours, as you cover a lot and give a lot of knowledge, but thanks for reading Dr Berg.
Also ONE more thing. Growing algae, kelp etc. Sound like a good idea? for eating of course. I think that would be great to learn to do. Anyone reading, you can grow cruciferous vegetables easy kale especially, without any storebought stuff other than seeds. Mine I have never used anything from store other than compost from storebought compostable foods… Literally you can scrape the grass away with a shovel and plant a seed of kale, it will grow. I mean trial and error, just for those who do not think they can do it, its not complicated like they make it seem. Collard greens too , easy. It is good to break up the soil a good 2 ft for roots but even then I had last year and a half no digging, still it grew, even if sideways it grew lol. Had plenty to freeze, still in bag in freezer. Was way better than storebought and cheaper.

  12. For me P5P is a game changer….my body absorbs it better and I sleep deeper and recall my dreams better. Standard B6 felt slightly toxic to me.
Do not take too much P5P

  13. My cubital tunnel syndrome cleared up after I started supplementing with P5P about 6 months ago. All thanks to a Dr. Berg video!
