Let’s talk about stress and cortisol. I’ve seen many people get on the right track with their diet and exercise—but they're still stuck in fight-or-flight mode.

Being in fight-or-flight mode, having elevated cortisol and adrenaline for a long period, isn’t healthy.

Chronic stress has been known to negatively affect the body in many ways, including:
• Shrinking your grey matter
• Shrinking your thymus gland
• Creating muscle atrophy
• Decreasing testosterone
• Running the body on sugar (even when you’re not eating sugar)
• Disrupting healthy digestion
• Reducing quality sleep

Chronic worry and stress can also lead to ulcers, inflammation, and disease.

An interesting study measured 39 people’s cortisol levels before and after a 45-minute art therapy session. This study found a significant reduction of cortisol in participants.

I have found that hobbies are a fantastic way to stop the fixation on stress and move your attention to something more positive.

    Thank you Dr Berg!🐱👍🏿

    • Wow I had no idea about some of these facts. This helps me learn more about myself. I am very skinny and I am aware of this in myself. I would say it is my biggest challenge in life at the moment. Considering this is the second thing that randomly comes up about this topic in a span of two days i guess it is a hint to clear this challenge once and for all. 2024 shall be the year to win!

  2. I’m so alive and filled with contentment at age 70 when out in the nature creating meditation videos. 🙂

  3. Thank you dr. Berg!!!! I am guilty of this. I always wonder how much younger I’d look and healthier I’d be if I didn’t worry nor stress too much.

    • Hello Mark! We are wondering if you could test our product for us? In January of next year, we’ll be releasing our newest testosterone booster called Self Obsessed and we are thrilled to offer our product without charge. To ensure that we are offering a product that is both safe and effective, we value the reviews and comments you provide. Interested?

  4. As an artist I can tell you that I have always said it’s my therapy. If I didn’t have it in my life I’d have cracked up ages ago.

  5. This is so true Dr Berg. I have a very stressful job and suffer with stress and anxiety but I attend art classes once a week and for two hours my concentration is on creativity and all l my fears and anxieties recede into the background. At the end of class I feel relaxed and happy. Something I don’t feel often enough.
Thank you for a great channel!

  6. What you have suggested is a good start but it is much more then just finding a stress relief hobby. The start of my change in the way my mind works is when I realized other peoples perspective of me is not my truth. This was just the beginning and it is so much more! I love the work you do to help us all Dr. Berg and many thanks forever! ❤❤❤

  7. I’ve been in this fight or flight mode since High School 😢 Now, I am already working for 5 years now and still surviving. ❤

    • You have to retrain your brain. It takes time. Cut out narcissistic or controlling people. Start counting things you’re grateful for, everyday, even if it’s something small. Take time to learn something new everyday. Take time for yourself everyday, even if it’s just 15 minutes praying or sipping peppermint tea, walking barefoot in the yard etc. (Of course, exercise & diet choices, but just make healthier choices over time, & it’ll just become part of who you are, instead of the pressure of a ‘diet’ regimen.) ✌️ You can learn tricks for in the moment pressure events you can’t avoid, like putting your face in cold water/ or ice pack across forehead to upper lip. Mantra type prayers or songs for relaxing & refocusing your mind. Etc

  8. walking on the beach side, river side or lake side has a very soothing feeling to me….. something powerful in large sources of water. Also trekking in nature, silence, camping are food the soul.
thank you Dr for your content.

  9. My husband is going through some health issues and of course I’m it it with him. Our stress is through the roof but we both play/tinker on the guitar and that is where we find our de-stress ❤

  10. Childhood trauma that gets stuck in our bio field can definitely keep us in fight or flight for years! Heart conherance exercises really helps. I think that the mind has no idea of space and time and it has to be anchored by the heart. Yes Dr being creative and doing what you like is so soothing. Diy anything is a good start

  11. This makes sense for me 100%. I got into making fragrance oils and colognes. That activity helped me calm my anxious nerves or stresses I’d get from my job as a teacher.

  12. I have been suffering from stress. Eight weeks ago I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Quite shocked , I’m slim, never touched alcohol in my life. Always maintained an extremely healthy diet. I do believe this contributed to my heath. Had a nephrectomy 4 weeks ago. Thanks Doctor Berg.

    • @@SR-cz5yyI am curious too. I am hearing from friends who are doctors that cancer diagnosis is way Up and they think it is related to the spike protein in the jab! One doctor has two MS patients in their early 20s. He said last time he saw a young person with MS was 20 years ago (1).

  13. I’ve joined exercise classes to beat the stress and loneliness. Managed to get a little bit of my smile and laughter back after losing my dear husband and mother, bless them, within less than 2 years. Then being cornered by some of the in-laws to do things i didn’t want to do but put my foot down against them for the first time. Went thru a very painful and stressful time. Caused so many health problems with sciatica 😢. Helps to go out and talk to someone.

    • God bless you and GOOD FOR YOU FOR STANDING UP FOR YOURSELF. LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL. HAVE A GREAT DAY 🙏🌅😃

    • Good to hear your getting better after gym move. Could I suggest you become a volunteer? Any kind or place that you feel like up. This would help you to add company and the sense of helping other human being, or animal or nature depend on wjat you choose.

  14. I’ve known and felt this for a long time, and I truly believe this is why art and creation has existed almost as long as modern humans have. It’s one of those things that really just makes us happy, and feel accomplished. Musicians, painters, game makers, unless they are overworked and doing it only for profit, are typically happy people who are satsfied with themselves.

  15. I retired after a 20 year career with the Dept of Corrections as a Corrections Officer. I ran in fight or flight mode for the entire 20 years. It put me through hell spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally. I have recently found myself enjoying photography, it gives me a sense of peace.

  16. I’ve found adult colouring to be a very effective way to maintain stress reduction. Daily walks in nature, meditation, journaling, listening to wellness podcasts like Mel Robbins are also great tools. There will always be stress in life, learning ways to cope in a healthy way is a life long journey. 🙏🏻💕

  17. Great video Dr.Berg. I recently took on my first ever woodworking project building an outdoor pergola with integrated decking. It’s mind blowing how much my stress levels came down working with my hands and fixing problems physically rather than mentally. It’s vital to get that energy out somewhere. Thanks for the reminder. 💚

  18. Thank you Dr Berg. I just wish I could know this years ago, I’m 57 years old and I had the most horrible nightmares, depression and anxiety just thinking about bad things that might happen. Now, just recently I can put an away these feelings little by little and I feel a lot better. You just confirmed this and it makes me feel even better.
