Today, we’re going to take a look at vitamin D. Every cell and tissue in your body has receptors for vitamin D. However, there is still no medical consensus on what vitamin D deficiency is.

Many people are deficient in vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency can negatively affect your immune function and can cause inflammatory conditions like arthritis, autoimmune disease, depression, and high blood pressure.

Vitamin D toxicity is very rare. Symptoms of vitamin D toxicity mirror the symptoms of vitamin K2 deficiency. This poses the question—do you have too much vitamin D or just not enough vitamin K2?

Vitamin K2 is intricately involved with the transportation of calcium, while vitamin D helps with the absorption of calcium from your gut into your blood. Vitamin K2 keeps calcium out of your soft tissues and strengthens your bones.

A lot of the confusion surrounding the RDA of vitamin D has to do with its measurement—international units. An international unit is an arbitrary number agreed on by some committee, and the amount varies from vitamin to vitamin. For example, one international unit of vitamin E is not the same as one international unit of vitamin A.

Several factors affect the absorption of vitamin D:
•Skin color
•Age
•Weight
•Insulin resistance
•Stress level
•Genetics
•Geographical location
•Season
•Gut health
•Liver health
•Gallbladder health or removal

Vitamin D is intimately involved in the immune system and plays a crucial role in the function of Helper T cells. Helper T cells prevent our immune systems from harming our own tissues. If you have issues with your Helper T cells, you could potentially develop an autoimmune disease.

Adequate intake of vitamin K2, magnesium, and zinc helps keep vitamin D active and prevent vitamin D toxicity. Plenty of water is also very important.

  1. Got my blood work done at the VA some years back and noticed my triglycerides were high and HDL were low and the only thing my doctor commented on was my high Vitamin D levels. That’s when I knew the medical system does not care. HDL was 32 Ng/dl

    • @@dimaknopf thanks , the bile salts make sense helping the liver along / cleanse it . I don’t know anything about niacin and egcg, but will look into it and I appreciate you sharing

  2. Thank you so much for everything you do for us, Dr. Berg. Since early November, I have successfully gained about 6 pounds of muscle, and I can still comfortably do at least 40 straight pull-ups. No drugs, no alcohol, just natural nutrition, O.M.A.D., I.F. and your Healthy Keto! Again, thank you, and Merry Christmas to you and your family! ❤

  4. I’m glad you clarified how much vitamin D is safe. I’m not taking nearly enough and the bottle says each tablet is 500 IU. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  5. Takeaways:
    1. Every single cell in the body has receptors for vitamin D and there is no evidence of vitamin D deficiency.
    2. All people have vitamin D deficiency and they have all sort of problems. Arthritis, Depression, Auto immune system, BP, Blood sugar.
    3. Vitamin D toxicity is very very rare.
    4. Vitamin K2 keeps Calcium from soft tissues.
    5. International unit ( iu) it doesn’t indicate the weight. You should not consider the absolute number as it is. 10000 iu is also refer very very tiny portion.
    6. There are many barriers for Vitamin D absorption like brown skin, insulin resistance, stress, place you live , obese etc…
    7. T helper cell in immune system helps to regule in not attacking our own body.
    8. Vitamin D helps in these T cells.
    9. K2, Mg, Zn should take with Vitamin D. These keep Vitamin D active and reduces toxicity.
    10. Increasing Water also prevent Calcium stones.
    11. Summary is Taking 10000 iu or more is perfectly fine

  6. I have taken 20.000 iu daily for 3+ years and have no problems. I also take k2, zinc and magnesium so the risk for toxicity is about zero.

  7. Excellent data. I would be very curious to see similar dosage data on taking Calcitriol with Vitamind D3, Vitamin K2, Zinc, and Magnesium. Not just for the healthy to maintain themselves, but also for those with obvious health conditions that are long term (i.e. Post Covid Long Haul Syndrome, etc.).

  8. I have been taking 12,000 to 16,000 d3 and k2 for years with no problems. This has helped improve my autoimmune condition which is continuing to improve.

    • @@sialee5926, I guess the question is, who told you to do that? A friend? A doctor? The cashier at Walmart? Find your own level of consumption. I experiment with my Vitamin D/K levels. I’m currently taking 6000 IU/daily, but I’m getting colds, etc.. Also there is the lack of sunshine in the winter months. So I’m increasing to 10,000 IU’s immediately. Hope this helps.

    • @@sialee5926 You’ll be surprised what you start to learn about your health and what you’re prepared to do when the doctors tell you there’s nothing they can do and send you on your way.

  9. I daily take 40.000 UI of Vitamin D3 and I feel perfect. Along with magnesium glycinate and threonate (300 mg and 150 mg respectively), K2 and Zn from multivitamin, and 3L or more of water per day.

    • I’ve taken 40,000 for years even though my Dr. advises against it. He still has nothing to show for the negative effects it’s supposed to have on me. As far as I know I have never had covid

    • @@rogerm3708we’re realizing in this generation that doctors moreso just follow orders vs helping people with holistic, natural ways. Berg gang 😎

  10. Started taking 10k IUs of Vit D3 (cholecalciferol) along with 55 mcg of Vit K2 (mk7) daily. Feeling great. Thanks to Dr. Berg.

    • I have a question for yall: is it okay to stack dr bergs multivitamin, trace minerals, and Vitamin D/k2? Thats 4 pills a day. Are there other separate ones to take as well?

  11. My bones were getting so weak I felt like I could fracture them with the slightest pressure. Started taking D3 and K2 in super high concentrations. Insanely rapidly my bones recovered. Blind obedience to rhese ordinary doctors will kill you sooner or later.

  12. I’m taking for 10 years daily 10,000 D3. Sometimes because of inflammation I took 30,000 to 10,000 with K2 as Dr Berg recommended and inflammation is almost down CAC score is 1.44 I’ll take it 😊👍❤

    • You need to add a high dose of both Vitamin K2 & Magnesium or you would end up with excess calcium that would be deposited into your arteries.

    • I took 200mcg of K2 daily for months and several tori grew on my palate, still there – it will force calcium into your bones alright.
      Balance is the key…

    • @@mandlas.4305do you know what to do if you have issues after too much vit D and calcium issues because i didnt take K2 and magnesium simultaniously ?

    • @@AnalogFlava usually vthe calcium that supposed to be deposited into your bones when you take vitamin D+k & magnesium gets into your arteries. This process doesn’t happen overnight. In your case, you probably need to immediately start on adding those supplements with vitamin K2 @ 300 mcg. I’m not a doctor and don’t know how clear your arteries are at this point. Get a test done on that.

  13. A colleague of mine in the Design industry actually did research on seasonal conditions and he found that D3 isn’t absorbed through the skin. Therefore skin color has no effect on D3 absorption. It almost solely environmental factors. He also found that we make D3 in the skin via a chemical reaction to the sun’s ray. A Black doctor replicated the study that claims that Black people have lower D3 because of race/skin and found it to be a false claim. There’s a lot of misinformation about D3! My chiro says D3 is like a miralce because it can be used to improve so many different ailments that people are afflicted with these days. Maybe that’s why they don’t want use to know about it.

    • My chiro told me that they have to go through more extensive medical training than a regular doctor. Therefore they know more about the body.

  14. I had a blood test back in August and was less than 10 on vitamin D. I’ve had TONS of health issues these last few years ranging from fatigue, pain, inflammation, memory issues, depression, and so on. I have been taking 5-10k D3 per day with K2 and magnesium and started noticing some change in the last month. It has taken some time and likely will have to keep taking this for a long time. My issue is, I am VERY fair skinned and after visiting a dermatologist few weeks back, he removed some moles but while doing this and looking me over, he is ordering another blood test to check for mild Lupus.

    • @27Zangle, good for you for taking D3, K2 and magnesium! They are so important for our health. Perhaps look into adding probiotics to your regime to help your immune system. Have a healthy 2024!

    • My d3 levels were also less than 10.I need to know for how long you have been taking vitamin d3 supplements and what kind of improvement did u see. I have difficulty sleeping, brain fog, difficulty in memorizing stuff, short attention span, and not able to understand or learn while studying.

    • @@evilzghost8979 My doctor started me on 50,000 D2 weekly. I did that for 3-weeks before learning the difference between D2 and D3 in addition to taking D3 with K2 and Magnesium.

I started taking 10,000 daily mid to late September along with K2 and Magnesium. There is a ratio of K2 to D3 or something like that. I started noticing small change, very small, about a month ago. From what I’ve read, it can take 6-12 months to notice any difference, sometimes longer.

I can say my sleep has been way off with taking these, even in the morning but should get better.

I have a bit more energy, my sleep is not any better, but that should change. My memory has improved slightly, at least retention and recollection. My bone pains have started going away most of the time. My bowles have started to change as well, back to more normal(ish), it was like everything I ate made me have to use the bathroom like having IBS but that can also be an issue with low vitamin D. Also, less heart palpitations.

  15. Thank you Dr Berg, I have been following and watching your videos for at least 4 years 😊and you have helped me with so many issues since my car accident!! Including low vitamin D 😊
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 May the Lord bless you and your family ❤️

  16. Dr. Berg; not trying to come across as a fake human version of a Hallmark card; yet just wanted to wish you and your family a very Merry Healthy Christmas!
You are the year round gift of Health and wellness to humanity; in what’s left of this immoral society! Salute!

  17. When I started taking 10,000 IU of vitamin D3, even with my fair skin, I was able to stay out in the sun for hours instead of burning within 20 minutes! I wish I had known this decades ago and saved myself a lot of sunburn over the years.

    • That’s interesting. I don’t use suntan lotion unless I go to the beach and I’m fair skinned. However the beginning of Summer until I get a base tan I do burn a little. I think suntan lotions first of all keep you from getting the natural vitamin D from the sun and also I think they are more of the culprit in skin cancer than exposure to the Sun.

  18. I just had a minor surgery a couple of weeks ago, and the nurse asked if I took any supplements. When I told her I took 20k of vitamin D, the nurse was shocked. I asked her if she knew how many MGs in 20k IUs. She did not. Let’s move on please. Keep up the good work Dr. Berg. Merry Christmas

    • @russwells1825, great job educating the nurse. They are “taught” to not question things and are surprised when someone actually knows facts. Have a healthy 2024!

    • @@thisorthat7626nurses are taught not to question things? Wow talk about control and not being able to reason or use common sense. Robotic sickcare system.

  19. I took 50,000 IUs or more a day for nearly a year. I started taking D3 in early 2018. It corrected acid reflux and bladder leakage over considerable time/years and I had to be consistent.
I also ate exclusively meat for nearly 18 months and dropped 85 pounds which healed much as well including inflamed intestines and internal hemorrhoids….by removing toxin held in that extra fat. I regained 1/2 of that weight loss but no longer have bladder leakage.

I no longer take 50,000 IUs or any D3 every day. I finally filled up my tank. Now about every 10 to 14 days I take 4,000 or 8,000 IUs of Vitamin D3. I am 68 years when I start swallowing wrong.
The sphincters from throat to elimination are affected by the hormone D3…and the throat clearing or slight need to cough are now my indicators. If I ignore that slight indicator, I will get the more annoying one that gives me the urge to pee with just having my hands in warm water.
