In this video, we’re going to talk about the foods to eat and avoid for optimal liver health.
The liver removes toxins from the body, turning them into harmless water-soluble particles. The liver can have three main problems affecting its function: a fatty liver, inflammation of the liver, and scar tissue or cirrhosis of the liver.
Among many other things, the liver helps:
•Turn ammonia into urea
•Buffer/regulate hormones
•Convert thyroid hormone T4 to T3
•Support growth hormone and IGF-1
•Activate vitamin D
•Produce bile
•Store glycogen
•Support immune function
Alcohol and excessive sugar intake negatively affect your liver function, as well as the following:
1. Soy protein isolates
2. Seed oils
3. High-fructose corn syrup
4. Refined starches
5. Glucose syrup
Ultra-processed foods are very damaging to the liver. Keep your liver healthy by eating whole foods and avoiding GMO foods, heavily processed foods, and synthetic ingredients.
Incorporate the following foods into your diet to support the health and function of your liver:
1. Healthy fats (olive oil, MCT oil, grass-fed butter)
2. Fatty fish (wild-caught)
3. Organic pasture-raised eggs
4. Leafy green vegetables
5. Cruciferous vegetables
6. Probiotic foods
7. Grass-fed meat
There are two incredible supplements that can help reverse liver damage. Tocotrienols are a type of vitamin E that provides excellent support for your liver. Tudca is a type of bile salt that can help prevent the build-up of bile.

Goodday Dr Berg,
Amazing work you did there.
I have a challenge and it is that ; I feel sleepy and doze off when I’m not doing things that put me in active mood almost everyday even after having adequate rest at night.
It’s different from the usual cases.
When I feel sleepy, all it takes is just like 15 minutes nap and I’m good until it comes again.
It’s alarming cuz a day doesn’t go by without me feeling sleepy and dozing off,
I’d really be grateful for your response and recommendations Doc?
Have you been checked for narcolepsy? I have narcolepsy without cataplexy so I can go to sleep at any moment if I just slow down and I’m not doing something. I work graveyard shifts and this has made it even worse.
15min naps are great
Please keep putting out this good quality information Dr. Berg, more people are hearing.
Another perspective worthy of discussion is the liver’s priorities of activities. For example, the number one priority is glucose metabolism. During WWII, Allied soldiers kept in Japanese prison camps experienced symptoms of increased estrogen levels–man boobs, reduced hair growth, even voice changes–because the staple food was white unenriched rice. As a consequence, after the B1 and other nutrients were used up in their management of glucose, the liver no longer had resources for regulating the hormones. This also accounts in part for earlier onset of puberty in the West–the ever increasing consumption of sugars in junk foods and drinks.
There is a reason why Dr. Berg is stressing liver lately. Pay attention! Your liver is so important to your overall health. Heart disease is the number one cause of death!! As always thank you Dr. Berg!! ❤
Dr Berg your videos are always informative, concise, and entertaining. This particular video one of your best yet. Sending to family and friends. So many people are still so blind to what they are eating is making them sick. Thank you for all you do!

Dr. Berg, I had an issue I would love for you to do a video on. I had my gallbladder removed almost 15 years ago, and I have inherited problems causing a fatty liver. I had pain in the general area for many years. Extreme pain. I believed it was my liver because my gallbladder was gone. It turned out to be my bile ducts, possibly gallstones, even though my gallbladder is gone. I was so afraid my liver was toast. Your supplement relieved the pain in days. I am amazed. But, I spent years being so afraid. People don’t realize how common this is.
Did you try milk thistle herb ? I take 150 mg a day it works very well.
@RichardTClark396 , yes. I do everything to help my liver. My liver numbers are fine now. But it did not do anything for my pain. Finally, one of the doctors in the medical clinic told me the pain was not in my liver, but in the gallbladder area, and it was my bile ducts. I had just ordered and started taking Dr. Berg’s bile duct cleaner. It took care of the pain in just a few days. My mother, my grandfather, and my great grandmother all died in their 50s with GI issues, so it scares me. I am 65, and I felt like a ticking time bomb.
It does not matter how many videos on the liver you make, I still learn more about the liver at each liver video!!
Thanks for this one. You have been listening to my posts, which I appreciate. I think my liver issues started when I was young (which was unhealthy food and lots of stress), but a stressful life has made it worse, even though I eat healthier (based on information at the time). My thyroid went hypo when I was in my early 20’s. Then I had my only child at 32 and things went downhill quickly after that. When I was 60, I was told I had fatty liver, which was a real wakeup call. I started working on my digestion after that, with probiotics and such. Now my digestion is better, I make my own probiotics, intermittent fast, and Keto type diet. I have noticed that Tudca helps, but when I take bile, I get bad heartburn, so I’m thinking that my bile is too thick. In many ways, I’m healthier than I have been for a long time, but have constant discomfort on my right side, so I’m pretty sure it’s the liver.

Thank you for this relevant information, Dr Berg. I’ve been following your guidelines concerning liver health by drinking diluted ACV and doing Keto for some time now, pain on right shoulder/neck has gone and no more bloating, better digestion and feeling better. Your daily contribution to improve our health is much appreciated 🙏🏻
I appreciate the fact that you are not extremely egotistical and you don’t insult your audience’s intelligence. So many internet docs are unbearable. You, on the other hand, are pleasant and informative.
He always educates and doesn’t insult his audience. I love when he suggests “if we have a friend who is struggling…” maybe try a new way to eat. My one friend has benefitted greatly 😅.
Want to thank you Dr Berg because I saw one of your videos about magnesium glycinate ; I was using citrate to help me sleep but I wasn’t getting any better, I was still waking up and my brain was wide awake at 3-4 am so I switch to glycinate and wow that has help me sleep thru all the night until 7 am without interruption. By the way it was your Magnesium brand that I tried, it’s great 👍🏼
Thank you for letting us know that to get rid of fatty liver, you have to stop the sugar! Ive had fatty liver for 30(?) years! I’ve maintained an 80+ lb weight loss for 7 years but STILL had fatty liver on MRIs. Ugh. But last year I stopped sugar and switched to monk fruit and other erythritol items and I FINALLY had a NO fatty liver MRI!!! Thank you again!
Hi Dr. Berg! I had similar right shoulder pain for at least 15 years and I thought it was from an injury. Four years ago when I found you, I went keto and started with a two month supply, that shoulder pain disappeared within weeks. Thanks, you are the best!
Two months supply of choline
Amazing. Glad my advice helped you. Stay safe and healthy!
Hello Dr Berg! Why no mention of lemons? In your previous videos (I remember), you have mentioned about potency of lemons for liver fat removal.
Happy New Year Dr. Berg! Great video with critical life altering information and wisdom. God Bless you!
Thank you so much Doctor Berg. This topic is really great content, informative and so amazing. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
