In this video, I’m going to share why fasting is the most important thing you can do for your health. Your body has survival mechanisms that are activated when you’re fasting. Through fasting, every part of your body starts to improve.
To start intermittent fasting, you should first eliminate snacks. Second, eliminate breakfast and only consume lunch and dinner.
Once you get into an intermittent fasting routine, the health of your pancreas begins to improve. Frequent eating and poor diet keep your pancreas hard at work releasing insulin.
Many people will have normal blood sugar for years while high levels of insulin go undetected. Over time, this leads to insulin resistance, prediabetes, and diabetes.
Intermittent fasting repairs and protects the beta cells of the pancreas, helping to decrease insulin resistance. Because you’re not eating as frequently, your digestive system also has a chance to relax in between meals.
An ideal intermittent fasting pattern to start off would involve 18 hours of fasting and two meals around 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Many people drop down to one meal a day which can help correct a slow metabolism, decrease inflammation, increase endogenous production of antioxidants, and combat insulin resistance.
Prolonged fasting offers even greater benefits! Prolonged fasting strengthens autophagy—the recycling of old, damaged proteins into healthy tissue. Prolonged fasting also allows your body to repair and clean out damaged mitochondria through a process known as mitochondrial biogenesis.
Prolonged fasting strengthens the stimulation of stem cells, which is why some people use prolonged fasting as a remedy for cancer.

A lot of people only eat because they are bored..i eat twice a day..
Yes, and notice that in America, every social event revolves around food.
Eating is entertaining! Just like drinking alcohol 🍺! To counter that, you have to be active!🏃🏽♂️🏊♀️🚣♀️🥌🚴♀️🏌🏻♂️⛹️🛼⛳️🥏⚽️🎾🏀
Yeah since losing my taste and smell (covid) I realised I was eating for the enjoyment of the smell and taste like a mini addiction, My body needs just good foods not Tasty foods.
Or anxious, which is more common.
@pure_awareness 🎯💯That smell and taste is a “food lust demon!” If it doesn’t smell good or taste good, then who wants it?🤷🏾♀️😂🫢 At this point, we do. It just goes to show that like everything else just because something looks good and smells good doesn’t mean it’s good for us.👊🏽🌞🦋
I just started a 3 day fast this morning.
Good luck!
I’m going to fast, too! But starting with 18 hour spurts, first! Best wishes!
I’m on my last day, after a 5 day fast.
This is probably the 10th 5 day fast I do over 2 years (I sorta do one every season change).
IMO day 2 is the worst, day 3 starts to get better, day 4 is kinda bad again, then day 5 it’s like easy as heck. If you can get to day 3, why not try 2 more days? You’ll definitely benefit from it.
😅
me too. Good luck. Check out channels: Dr Mindy Pelz, Dr Jason Fung, and Jamal Get Right (he is very motivating. He is doing long fast with keto diet and has lost 40 pounds in 26 days).
I fast weekly from lunchtime to lunchtime the next day. I feel so energized when I wake on the second day.
I laso felt this the best part not so oftwn talked about is how i m so organised when i am fasting 24 hrs everyday. @drericberg
I stopped eating breakfast since last year Feb and no snack between meals. I feel so much better and healthier than ever. Always have a lot of energy during the day and don’t feel tired like I used to. So fasting is amazing because I tested it 👍🏻👍🏻😍😍
Do you feel an increase in testosteron?
@@user-jk4hz5ke2j That part I can’t give you an answer. But overall health improves a lot. I used to have sore throat all the time which I had no idea why. Also I had hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) for all my life but ever since I started doing keto they all went away. Again it proves keto and fasting work wonderfully.
I introduced Dr Berg’s channel to my dad and many others who are willing to listen and change their diet and be healthy.
My dad has lost a lot of weight and cut down his diabetic medication after stopped eating carbs and highly processed foods. We’re big fans of you Dr Berg!
I have been fasting since last year beginning in September. I use 20:4 or I’ll go 24 hours and I feel better fasting then eating and I have lost over 45 pounds. Almost every thing he is saying I ended up reading up on it.
yea fasting and graduating from 16 hrs to OMAD, im loving it. its crazy right? ppl think youd be low energy and lethargic by not eating but its the opposite lol. i just dont get hungry even when im doing OMAD, so i just eat once..
I fast for 20 hours a day, every day. I love it!
Thats exactly what I do. 20/4 everyday. Right now im on day 3 of an herbal detox. Its been rough no food but I feel amazing at the same time ❤
@@bDub3891 Couldn’t agree more. I skip breakfast entirely, waking up at 5:00 AM and having my meal at 5:00 PM. I’ve been doing this for 1.5 years now, and I feel great!
Does that mean you don’t drink coffee or juice? I can’t go without drinking SOMETHING.
You can have coffee tea, water, but skip the sugar & cream. No juice because it has sugar & calories.. @@loripiontek
Are you losing hair?

Would Himalayan pink sea salt provide all the necessary electrolytes for an extended fast or would I need something more? What can I take to make sure I have all the necessary micronutrients?
Great work!
@@brianlittrell797It won’t break a fast but use in moderation.
Yup. 34 to 38 hour fasting is the best !!

I’ve got 158 hours into a fast right now! Lost 10 pounds! Feel amazing! Plan on 2 more hours of fasting and then break it
WOW ! The best I’ve done is a little over 3 days. Way to go.
Would Himalayan pink sea salt provide all the necessary electrolytes for an extended fast or would I need something more? What can I take to make sure I have all the necessary micronutrients?
And you’ll put that back on because you’ll eat more when you stop 😂🙄
Only if you are a sugar burner, and eat lots of carbs. @@jondavis4273
@@jondavis4273 nonsense.
I began my fasting interest after having covid and not eating for a week. I realized how much better I felt besides my illness at that time. So I started looking into it and practicing fasting daily and experimenting in prolonged fasting outside of an illness. It’s honestly been life changing and that’s not an exaggeration. Good day to you all.
For 6 months after COVID I did a 1st of the month 72 hr. fast. Stopped after the
6 months. Starting again this month.
You’re right, Dr Berg. Our bodies were designed to take the best nutrients for optimum health performance in the right amounts but the big industries seem to be focused on something else. The benefits from fasting are amazing and thanks for sharing your knowledge ❤
I’ve been doing 17 hours for the past few weeks. Glad to watch this video.
I’m fasting 19 to 20 hrs and considering a 2 day fast. I was pre-diabetic and I now I believe I’m becoming more insulin sensitive after 2 years.
I fast 22 hours a day. I am watching this and I am on a 48-hour fast. I was about to give up now on 42, but now watching this I want to get to 72! Dr. Eric since I start to watch your video I started one meal a day and my health improved ever since. Thanks a lot! I really appreciate your work!
Would Himalayan pink sea salt provide all the necessary electrolytes for an extended fast or would I need something more? What can I take to make sure I have all the necessary micronutrients?
If you can push past the 48 hour mark it gets a lot easier. I fasted four days during all me chemo treatments and by the third day the hunger pangs were gone ( at least for me). Good luck!
@@anniealtevers2173 exactly, I’m at the 30 hour mark now, I’m going to keep it going!! I’m sipping my black coffee. I will also have some carbonated water this evening. 🙋
Go all the way to 7 or 10 days if u go till 72 hrs…. Can imagine hw the autophagy will regenerate u!! 🤞
Once all fat is depleted, how does one maintain intermittent fasting for long periods?
For the greater part I fast for 23 hours everyday and only do one meal a day. I have lost over 40 pounds in exactly 5 months to the day today. I also go for long walks everyday. What a life and game changer it’s been and I absolutely love it! Thanks for all of your amazing videos Dr.Berg!
Fasting benefits are amazing, including the fact that it’s budget friendly. Your work is always greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dr Berg 🙏🏻
Right!
There’s no way I could afford to eat a ketogenic diet if I was buying food for three meals a day!
@@lexibat7829 How is it more expensive? Than what?
Hi Dr I am 66 years old I followed your recommendation and started with 16/8 and gradually moved on to OMAD I have lost over 70 pounds in 7 months I have never felt this good I n a long time. I have total life style change thank you so much you saved my life
This explains the last 20 years of my life and why I became a diabetic slowly over time, but my doctor at the time said,”you need to watch your sugar” and that was it. But I’ve felt so much better since starting fasting and keto
I remember being on a singles group leadership team that spent a weekend at a camp fasting and praying for the group that had 12 members. A few short months after the weekend fast the group grew to 150 members. What a great time that was.❤🔥✝️🗣🔜⬆️☁️ oh yeah, that’s where I met my wife … 35 years now!❤😁
