In this video, I’m going to compare juice and soda to determine which one is healthier. People often think juice is healthier because it’s “natural” and comes from fruit. A 12-ounce soda has 39 grams of sugar, while the same amount of fruit juice contains around 42 grams!

Juice is a highly refined product. The fruit is juiced, and the fiber and oils are removed. Chemicals like ethyl butyrate are used to enhance the flavor.

Most juice in the grocery store is pasteurized, sterilizing it and killing the beneficial microbes. Vitamins and antioxidants, especially vitamin C, are also sensitive to heat from the pasteurization process.

If your juice is not organic, you’re consuming pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides.

When you consume sugar from juice without the vitamins and minerals found in fruit, your body has to pull from its nutrient reserves to use the sugar as fuel. Both soda and juice deplete your vitamin, mineral, and antioxidant reserves over time and spike your blood sugar.

Most apple juice is made into concentrate and stored for an extended period, then shipped around the world to be reconstituted and sold as juice.

When it comes to soda vs. fruit juice, both are unhealthy options. If you’re craving juice, consume the whole fruit!

Try blending fruit into a smoothie instead of drinking juice. This provides a beverage with live enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants—and no pasteurization. Zevia is a great sugar-free soda alternative. Water with electrolytes is another refreshing option!

  1. Natural juice is better but both soda and store juice are just really bad. But i think sometimes fresh juice is great. I love to put some banana and berrys and yoghurt, in the machine and make an milk(yoghurt)shake out of them. Also love fresh apple juice, but that i take very rarely

  2. I love how Dr Berg uses an echo sound effect when he is saying that they have to remove the oxygen so that it (LASTS LONGER) Our American beverages like sunny D are essentially mummified drinks, the echo effect makes me think of Halloween. 😂

    • But what about juices that are not from concentrate. Im talking only 1 ingredient. Examples tropicana and innocent (uk company) i dunno if they have the fibre stripped from them or if there is any process involved.

    • Exactly. Same. Now I’m hooked. Mann. Maybe if they told us about Juice & Soda back then then maybe I wouldn’t have this big addiction to juice like this. Mann. SMH 🤦‍♂️

  3. I never drink soda or juice in the US. While I’m in Thailand each years I drink a lot of fresh squeezed juice but most of all I eat tons of watermelon to stay hydrated.

  4. I’ve really grown to drink acv and organic lemon water. Don’t by the juice of f of the shelf, just buy organic lemon. I sweeten it with liquid organic stevia from my Vitamin Shoppe. I used to be a juicer,Simply Apple Cider was my go to…learning healthy – keto has saved me I say to you truly.

  5. Make your own juice.
Iced tea, lemon, ACV, blend a small amount of fruit with the pulp, sweeten with stevia.
You can also add some collagen for more nutrition if you wish.
    👍

  6. I squeeze my own orange juice & add a bit of water..I use a juicer if
    I use apples carrots etc..
Haven’t used store bought juices for many years..
I do drink a lot of organic coconut water on the hot days!..

  7. Juice for me is fresh juice made at home with a juicer, not the store bought one. My mom always made us some especially during the orange season. For me that juice is healthy and it is a treat! Whole fruit is always better but homemade juice should not be given a bad name!

  8. The “Simply” juices (Simply Lemonade, Simply Fruit Punch, etc) are Non-GMO, made with cane sugar, has a pulp in it, and they claim they aren’t made from concentrate. They also taste really good. I have been buying them for the last few years. I tend to dilute their juice with water for my 9 year old because it’s really sweet and I don’t want them to be hyper and used to really sweet tasting drinks. It still tastes really good diluted with water. My parents did this also to our juice when we were kids growing up. Other than that I don’t drink juice myself. If I do I might add a little bit of the Simply Raspberry Lemonade to apple cider vinegar and water or to a green blend drink to make it really tasty. Sometimes I drink Ollipop Cream Soda or a Coke Zero. Great video. 🙂👍🏼

    • Ok. I didn’t know. Never was a fan of their juices, but now that you say that it’s much healthier than the others, I will look to switch. Thank You!

  9. That’s why I juice my Organic Carrots, Apples, Cranberries(when they are in season), and blueberries!

  10. I stopped drinking soda & straight juice years ago.
My “juice” is mixed with about 1 part juice, 5 parts water.
Juice must not be from concentrate, juiced recently and it’s a hot day or some reason to want that kind of drink. I flavor my water with good juice sometimes. No soda ever. Love my one morning coffee.
I’m a month in to no beer till 2025.
    No problem.
I’m working on 99% cooking my own meals. Slowly working off this 59 yr old belly thing.
I love your channel Dr.Berg. my daughter and always are excited to hear a new and interesting video you put out. Thank you

It helps to encourage the right direction which seems like consuming less sugar is best, even fruit juices.

  13. Here is what I drink. Crystal Geyser Alpine Spring Water 1 gallon jugs and I have to have a little bit of diet or zero sugar soda with some of my meals. I’m following a low carb whole foods clean keto diet mostly eating fresh non-starchy vegetables, leafy greens and lean meat like boneless skinless chicken breast. Seafood sometimes, dark meat chicken sometimes, red meat sometimes, nuts and seeds sometimes, eggs sometimes. No dairy, no grains, no legumes, no fast food, no alcohol, no ultra processed packaged foods besides the diet or zero sugar soda. I avoid fructose and sugar the most so no regular soda, and no juice.
