Today, we’re going to talk about the functions and benefits of vitamin K2, as well as the dangers of a deficiency. Vitamin K2 deficiency can lead to soft tissue calcification, bone corrosion, osteoporosis, and cavities.

You can get vitamin K2 from the diet, or you can make it from vitamin K1 in the gut. Natto (fermented soybeans) is the food with the most vitamin K2. Eel, goose liver, chicken liver, and beef liver also contain a significant amount of vitamin K2. Butter and cheese from grass-fed animals, salami, pork chops, and fermented vegetables contain small amounts of vitamin K2.

Vitamin K2 can clean your arteries naturally, yet it’s found in fatty foods that we’ve been told to avoid! Because it’s a fat-soluble vitamin, you may have trouble absorbing it if you don’t have a gallbladder or you have a bad liver.

You need plenty of healthy microbes to convert vitamin K1 to vitamin K2. B. subtilis is the primary microbe responsible for this conversion. Only 30% of the population has this microbe in their gut because it’s very easily destroyed when you consume broad-spectrum antibiotics.

Without B. subtilis and vitamin K2 foods, you’re at risk for developing calcification in the arteries.

Antibiotics, steroids, PPIs, antacids, glyphosate from GMO foods, alcohol, junk food, liver disease, high-sugar diets, and blood thinners destroy the gut’s ability to make vitamin K2. Low-fat diets can also put you at risk for a vitamin K2 deficiency.

Vitamin K2 is dependent on magnesium. Together, magnesium and vitamin K2 can help clean your arteries and remove calcium deposits from your soft tissues.

There are two kinds of vitamin K2: MK4 (synthetic) and MK7 (natural). Try taking 100 mcg of MK7 vitamin K2 for every 10,000 IU of vitamin D3.

  1. Vitamin K2 removes calcium from soft tissues and directs it to bones and teeth. It’s found in fatty foods and can be made from K1 by gut microbes. K2 deficiency can lead to calcification and bone issues. Magnesium is crucial for K2 function.

    • It’s better to detox for heavy metal first so your body won’t be confused or the minerals will have to complete with the heavy metals in your body

    • For humans only natural source of K2 are animal foods, gut microbes or not. In plants K1 only, not the same thing.

    • Absolutely! Vitamin K2 is key for directing calcium to bones and teeth, preventing buildup in soft tissues. A healthy gut helps convert K1 to K2, and magnesium is essential for K2’s effectiveness. Thanks for the info!

  2. Just started our Dr. Berg D3/K2 subscription last night. Been buying by the bottle but after the “trial period” realized we need this everyday 😊

  3. It doesn’t seem “ironic” that we’re told to avoid the healing foods, it seems outright “nefarious”…. thank you for sharing the wealth of knowledge that’s been occulted from us… be well in YaH beloved souls 🙏🏻🕊

  4. I love Vitamin K2 but one thing no one talks about is that it causes heart palpitations in some people. If that happens to you, stay off it for a while and supplement magnesium. My palpitations stopped after a week and now I’m back on K2, though I take it only a few times a week and not daily. You can verify what I’m saying by searching Reddit or other websites where people have shared similar experiences. Not telling you stay off K2, just sharing what to expect.

    • Good to know! I have heart arrhythmia and I was just going to start k2 and vit D. Do you know what causes these palpitations?

    • I have PSVT and I’ve had the opposite reaction to K2.. fewer palpitations. I suspect one needs to make sure you have adequate magnesium because of the synergy of magnesium and K2.. also taking excess calcium may contribute to arrhythmia.

    • Mk 7 can cause heart palpitations. That’s why I take Mk-4, which is another well absorbed form of k2.

    • Agree, potassium is one of those things people tend to be low on as well. Plus, keep in mind, an adult make would need to consume approx 11 bananas/day to maintain the RDA for potassium. Point being, most people are not eating 300+ bananas per month, or large quantities of other high potassium foods, so this is where high quality supplements can really help people get off their dependency on expensive prescription pharmaceuticals.

  5. My problem was thyroid.
I listened to you and changed my life style and diet. I feel so much better now.
A healthy diet and exercise is the best cure. I didn’t need pills, just the right food.
    💖

    • Could you please tell me in detail, if possible, exactly what you did? My mother has a thyroid issue, and I can’t bear to see her suffer.

    • He has tons of videos on it. The most important vitamins are iodine and vit d. But make sure you watch his videos and be fully educated.

    • Thyroid problems are complex & can be very complicated & you need to find the root cause of what’s causing your issues, your gut, a virus like EBV & or your pituitary gland & so many other factors. A conventional Dr. isn’t going to help you find your root cause you need a Functional medicine Dr. and or naturopathic Dr. or Chiropractor who knows how to run the right kind of tests. ALOT of people with low thyroid have gut sensitivities that stem from gluten intolerance, also ppl with liver issues and or no gallbladder. A conventional MD will only most likely test your TSH & give you T4 medicine that will not do much to make you feel better! Ask me how I know all this?! The way conventional Drs treat thyroid issues is a crime!

  6. As a heart patient I am taking on a daily basis zinc, magnesium, D3 and K2-MK7. I also suggested to my wife who has RA and osteoporosis to take on a daily basis D3 and K2-MK7.

    • MK4 is the better K2. I don’t know why everyone thinks MK7 is better. I used to have high blood pressure (145/90) which I fixed by taking a high dose of K2 (45mg per day from Thorne Research) (now i’m 120/80). My friend took the same brand of K2 and also lowered his blood pressure to normal levels. MK7 shows up on blood tests but doesn’t actually leave your bloodstream whereas MK4 is quickly absorbed and that’s why it doesn’t show up on blood tests

    • @ Not sure why though. MK4 has a shorter chain and is synthetic. MK7 has a longer chain and is natural. The longer the chain the more absorption. Also, not sure why it’s not good for it to show up on a blood test.

    • As a cardiac patient, you should move away from Paracelsus-style supplements and focus on real food. You rely on supplements that have nothing to do with health. Do you know how these supplements are made? If you knew, would you still be taking them?

  7. Dr. Berg, connecting important nutrients for optimum good health.
Have learned so much from him.
One of the best Drs in the world.
I normally tell people to go watch Dr. Berg’s you tubes. Tq Dr Berg. You are awesome.

  8. Thank you! I’ve been debating adding Vitamin K2 to my regimen for a while. I take 10,000 IUs of Vit D daily, as well as magnesium. I’ve been reading and watching video’s for information and this one has been the one that made me certain I need to add Vit K2.

  9. I just love you Dr. Berg and I thank God for you. You are a blessing to so many. Thank you for helping us stay healthy.🙏❤️

  10. I’ve always been surprised at how some of the most essential nutrients don’t get the attention they deserve. Focusing on simple, nutrient-dense foods like steak and eggs has helped a lot, but adding supplements has made a big impact, too. I found some great recommendations in a book called Secret Supplements that turn you into a Superhuman. Magnesium, in particular, has been a game-changer for my energy and overall well-being.

  11. “I loved this video! It’s amazing to see how much creativity goes into content like this. It really inspires me in my own journey of making videos about healthy food. Anyone else here passionate about finding new ways to enjoy good, healthy recipes?

  12. Doctor talked about hair breakage and split ends, thin hair at the front of the head, milia, pimples that appear under the eyes, large pores, sad lines, sagging face, and how to maintain facial fat.
