When you overeat carbohydrates, your blood sugar rises, and insulin removes the sugar from the blood. Insulin also allows sugar to be used as fuel in the cell. Due to insulin resistance, many high blood sugar symptoms are related to low blood sugar and low sugar inside the cell.

Here are 7 high blood sugar warning signs.

1. Excessive urination
Waking up to urinate at night signifies a blood sugar problem and even a prediabetic situation. When you have too much sugar in the blood, it’s filtered by the kidneys and excreted in the urine.

2. Excessive thirst
Excessive urination leads to water loss and excessive thirst. High blood sugar causes sodium retention, which your body tries to dilute. High blood glucose also contributes to potassium deficiency, which also increases thirst.

3. Skin changes
Skin folds will often become darker due to excess glucose.

4. Brain fog and fatigue
Many people have no idea this is a symptom of high blood sugar! High blood sugar starves the neurons.

5. Mood swings
Irritability is often caused when your blood sugar that’s too high goes too low. A ketogenic diet can significantly improve mood issues.

6. Cravings
Cravings will typically be for sugar and salty carbs.

7. Blurry eyes
The lens of the eye becomes swollen, and the inside of the eye becomes reddened.

Fixing the diet and lowering carbohydrates could help eliminate symptoms of high blood sugar within weeks. You’ll also want to increase glucagon to decrease insulin by consuming high-quality protein like red meat, fish, or eggs.

  2. For me… it was the blurred vision… even while wearing glasses.
    I added fiber or protein before drinking my cappuccino and that fixed the problem.

    • Yes! I used to live my life as if I was constantly in a steamy shower. Everything was so blurry. Glad you fixed your issue too.

  3. My blood sugar levels always about 350 and 390.
    I finally decided not to visit any doctor.
    I started eating food which I can digest easily and started taking vitamin D after watching your videos. Multi vitamin as well.
    Multi Collagen and Glucosamine for knee pain. Taking ghee regularly.
    My sugar levels and RBA1C become much better.

    Planning for blood test next week again.

    Vitamin D helped a lot. Insulin too is good now

  4. My Nephew had a level of 634 upon his first diagnosis, and said he had felt fine. I just said it is so gradual that you didn’t notice it going up. Some people go into a diabetic coma at that level. He is a big guy though.

  5. I am doing keto and intermittent fasting to help me get healthy. It is working really well. My doctor does not understand anything about how I want to get healthy again. Thank you Dr. Berg, you have helped me so much.

    • My wife self diagnosed herself with thyroid gland tumor and went under surgery to remove it which changed her life. Doctors couldn’t tell the reason for the symptoms she had and thought it was psychological. You should never consider your doctor’s opinion as the final answer

    • I told my doctor I went keto to get healthy… and she proceeded to lecture me about how bad it is to do that and how I needed to lose weight “the healthy way”.
      I fired her and got a new doctor. 😂

  9. Hi Eric, Bhavesh (Patel, MD) here…. great point about the A1c and increased lifespan of RBCs. The A1c is calculated on the idea that RBCs live 90 days, but if they live longer, more glycation, thus, higher A1c… The other thing that happens is LOW A1c and HIGH fasting glucose, which is due to gluconeogenesis (liver secreting glucose into bloodstream) when sugar levels drop during fasting.

Eat healthy, exercise, take vitamin tabs, eat black garlic and fermented cabbage such as Sauerkraut & kimchi, take one spoon of extra virgin olive oil and apple cider vinegar, drink kefir yogurt drink & matcha green tea and sleep well. That’s what I’ve done and just celebrated my 60th birthday lately. 😊😊😊
