Today I’m going to reveal how problems with the gallbladder could be related to the thyroid.

Bile contains bile salts, lecithin, bilirubin, protein, and cholesterol. If a person has too much cholesterol and not enough bile salts, they could develop gallstones.

However, cholesterol is necessary to help you make bile, hormones, and vitamin D. The body makes the majority of cholesterol in the body.

The liver makes bile. Bile helps eliminate excess cholesterol and certain toxins. It also helps break down fats and supports the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and fatty acids.

A person with hypothyroidism or a subclinical hyperthyroid issue has an increased risk of gallstones. Many different connections cause this increased risk, but overall, it takes a healthy thyroid to make enough bile and bile to create a healthy thyroid.

Ultimately, I believe a lack of fat and cholesterol in the diet can increase your risk of gallstones and hypothyroidism from multiple angles.

  1. Thank you Dr. Berg.🙏🏻
I really appreciate all you’ve done for our family. You’re making a big difference in people’s lives.

    • @D G I am doing IF. I have successfully reversed my T2 Diabetes symptoms over the last 8 years. No more insulin, no more pills, and 50 lbs disappeared 👍

    • I have hypo and hashimotos, my gallbladder is removed, I have diabetes type 2, burned out, depression and anxiety

They have made ultra sound to look for my thyroid, it has died, they can not find it

    • @susanneahlman You seem like a good person so I will share a few things with you…

When you get pulled into the medical vacuum, they make you feel like you are a victim- that you are a label. If you never saw a doc and lived on an island surrounded by happy people, you would likely be just fine. The drugs they have you on are likely the cause of most of your maladies. They also destroy your gut. Try going to an integrated medical doc and some natural healers. Breath- you will be just fine.

Try not to fall for their Jedi mind tricks. They are making you anxious. They tried to do that to me too when I got a brain injury. They tried to turn me into a drug addict with Xanax. I laughed at him and said no way. Never looked back. It was rough- going from an alpha provider on a Monday to not being able to tie my sneakers or provide on Tuesday but I mostly healed over time NATURALLY. The body wants to heal. Long term (over 1 week) use of medications are mostly designed to keep you sick. I firmly believe this. I also just read a book from an expert, ivy league MD who says the same.

STOP IDENTIFYING AS YOUR LABEL. If they would profit off you being healed, they would drop all your labels tomorrow. They do NOT have your best interests in mind.

Type II can often be reversed. Many people have their GB’s yanked and are just fine. Mine is gone and I do not miss it.

Vacation, somewhere sunny and amazing like Yosemite NP. Hike until you drop! Breathe fresh air and look at that blue sky. Be around good, fun people or go alone and enjoy solitude. Eat really healthy foods. If safe, get off all meds. Drink…water. The lodge inside the park is awesome.

I HIGHLY, suggest that you read or listen to BRAIN ENERGY. It’s all in there.

Smile- you are going to be great! You are a warrior my friend. A great role model to others that you have kicked the butt of adversity and you are still here. If life was easy all the time, it would be boring. You have a rich, complex life…and you are winning!

    • @Gotta Say It Thanks, now I have to go out and get YouTube. My husband doesn’t even let me have google. He says that I know LOL⛱

  2. 💯Dr. Berg has a voice I can listen to every day without getting tired of hearing! Reminds me of my Pops voice, not too loud or too low. PERFECT! Thanks, Sir, for this great information! ☺️

    • @PolPotsPieHole I think he picks an age and demographic and we’re all in it… im 34 and every video seems to apply. Damn u gluten

    • Yeah, my thoughts exactly! My BP can be strangely all over the place. It shoots up high for no known reason and then drops to normal. I am researching that it could be thyroid and gall bladder related. It’s like Dr. Berg was reading my mind on this topic, lol

    • That’s because he’s actually an AI avatar of the Singularity, each person’s videos are tailored to their specific needs, I’m also a bot.

  3. Perfect timing! I have been issues with my thyroid and my gall bladder (stones). I’m taking bile salts to help. I’m getting more serious about my keto lifestyle. How long will it take to correct these problems?

  4. Had gallbladder removed in 2019, had recent thyroid surgery, now taking Levothyroxine for hashimotos that was recently discovered. Gluten free has helped tremendously as does ox bile for no gallbladder. Very interesting connections in video.

    • @S Mendoza You might want to look into desiccated thyroid to assist you. It will contain more of the components that your body needs to make up for not having a thyroid. Talk to your doctor (though they probably know little about it). Our body needs far more than the thyroid hormones that thyroxine provides. And also see if you have the MTHFR genetic variation. My life has turned around after I found out I had the MTHFR SNP.

    • @S Mendoza I can tell you my experience. For the MTHFR variation, you can have a DNA test. I used Ancestry for mine but most of the DNA companies provide the results to you. However, you might have to look up how to translate what they send. The variation is common among people with European ancestry. Dr. Berg has some videos about it.
      Does this help?

    • @ThisorThat Where did you do your genetic test for MTHFR? I need one and cant figure out how to order one. My pcp won’t order for me.

    • @Kat I used Ancestry but there are other companies that offer the test. Some tests provide easy to understand results. With Ancestry I had to look online to find which gene was indicated for MTHFR though my test was taken several years ago so maybe they improved the interface.

  5. Dr. Berg thank you for this! I’m healthy ~18-20% b.f., I watch my diet (I eat seafood/meat & healthy fats) and weight lift 5x a week. I’ve been hypo for years taking synthriod & I now have gallstones. My bloodwork also shows high AM cortisol.

    • Sorry. It is common for new moms- did you know that? I am not quick to run to surgery but I had mine out. It was popped. Technically, ruptured. Lucky I did not die or develop pancreatitis. You don’t want that for sure. Read up about it.

  6. Thank you for the info, I’m sick and tired of finding out other things that hypothyroidism might cause on my own. Why do doctors not tell any of this to their patients?? It took almost 2 yrs for my hypothyroid to be diagnosed. I am always asking questions about my labs if I notice something.
    It’s so frustrating.😡

    • I don’t know where you are situated, but I’m in the UK. Doctors and Endocrinologists here are hopeless, closed minds and if you ask anything you are seen as a troublemaker and shut down. I had to find out what helped me from the charity Thyroid UK.

    • Find a naturopathic MD or functional medicine practice near you, asap! Conventional medical practitioners will allow the cascade associated with these symptoms to go on for years.
      I know from experience!
      Best of luck.

  7. Wow! This helps bring light to my gallbladder/thyroid connection. Liver cancer surgery in 2010, gallbladder removed w/ cancer. absolute mental midget for years until removal of overactive parathyroid gland. Within months I was once again able to rejoin the workforce and live again.

  8. Thank you Dr berg. I’ve been following you for almost a year and have lost over 45 pounds and maintained it for 6 months. It seems I always pick little nuggets of information in each video. Today I looks like fat needs bile and bile needs fat. I know when I get a little too heavy on the dietary fat my stomach lets me know I’m thinking not enough bile for the amount of fat I consumed. I also didn’t realize you get more bile from a animal protein. I’ve heard as you get older, I’m over 55 that you need to consume more protein? Can you clarify please.

    • Be careful with that weight loss Jeff. I did almost exactly the same as you and lost my gallbladder- learned it was very common. I lost 45 in a year- running and eating leaner. I probably could have eaten more fat. I tried going vegan. I liked the idea of it ethically, but it nearly killed me. Now I eat meat and some veg. and I feel very good.

    • @Jeff Thomas That is what I thought. Leaf’s are not always so healthy- many contain bad things that could be part of your problem. I would try an elimination diet if I were you- slowly, never all at once. Kale for ex. is an anti-nutrient and can block absorption of good vitamins. Spinach is very high in Oxalates (kidney. stones.) Read The Plant Paradox sometime. Never Almonds or Soy or Whole Grains I hope. All bad. I would focus more on Healthy fats e.g., GRASS FED meats and WILD CAUGHT (only) SALMON and see how you feel after a month.

  9. I’d love to hear about any issues with having no gallbladder, pertaining to thyroid or any other impacts. Thank you.

  10. Goodness, this was informative. My mother had all of the problems mentioned here (hypothyroidism, painful pancreatitis, and then gall bladder removal) Coincidentally, yesterday I had a thyroid blood test done by an independent lab because I think I have minor symptoms. I have insurance, but it’s a long story. I appreciate this information because I can get on the eating program as well as other things advised and keep myself healthy. A million thanks!!

  11. I have bile salt malabsorbtion, my gastroenterologist told me the the bile salt goes straight through my system. You’ve told me more in 2 days than he did in 20 years. Thank you so much.. when people ask me who my doctor is I tell them Dr Berg.

    • @D G hi my pain was excruciating I was doubled up on the floor there was no consultation about it they just said we are whipping your gallbladder out. No symptoms before this. Since then I’ve ruled out certain pastries and bread, peas, and of cause tested for lactose intolerance which I wasn’t before. Milky things go straight through, not nice but dr berg has been so informative wish he really was my doctor can’t get to see ours in UK.

    • What about those of us who have had thyroidectomy? I am 59,take eutirox but it just doesn’t seem be right. Tried dried natural hormone, complete disaster! I’d love to be healthy and lose a few kilos!!

    • @Michelle Smith I wish I knew but I don’t, please ask Dr berg I’m sure he will have answers. He has helped so much. X

  12. My husband had his gallbladder removed many years ago. I appreciate all the knowledge you share. Thank you Dr Berg for your splendid videos.

    • How is he doing. Does he take an Digestive Enzyme w/Ox Bile? I do sometimes- big meals. Otherwise I don’t see much difference. Ask him it if floats (not good- not absorbing fat.) He will know what you mean.

    • @D G Thanks for asking 😊. He is fine. No he does not take any digestive enzyme. He is a foodie person. He is always ready to take me on a culinary journey and it’s an amazing experience. The only thing I might have to do is portion control and watch his weight.

  13. Thank you, Dr. Berg, for your explanatory videos. My career has been as an analytical chemist. Biochemistry was judged too complex for undergrads, and my medical school texts don’t talk about nutrition! You are filling a very critical gap in our education!

  14. Thank you very much, Dr. Berg! I wish I’d found your channel years ago before having my gallbladder removed. It’s upsetting to know now there were things I could have done and not have it removed. Now, it’s so hard to loss weight. Fatty belly. Please make a video for people without gallbladder. Please.

    • Another commenter with removal of gallbladder mentioned taking ox bile as a supplement.
      Might be worth some research!

    • Ironically, I lost mine and cannot GAIN weight. BMI is 21- in range but skinny. Not cool look for a man. Think Steve Jobs. someone actually called me a cancer patient recently- felt really great. Especially when I work out and work hard to eat high quality nutrition every day like it’s my job. Life is not always fair but I am still here.

Don’t worry- you likely made the right decision. It likely would have kept getting stones. The root cause could have been other things that were beyond your control but who really knows.

  15. ❤ Thank you so much for the way you present the information and how much hard work and effort you put into this. It is much appreciated beyond words.

  16. That was excellent. Thank you very much! I have long addressed the entire ecosystem of needs. Thyroid, adrenal, liver/gallbladder, and testosterone. Keep pushing them all in the right direction, on a daily basis, and things get better. None of these organs and systems stand alone. Nothing is isolated.

  17. I love this channel, and I find most of this information to be valuable and correct, but sometimes, Dr Berg gets it wrong.
I have Hashimoto’s, and while you definitely have to avoid gluten, you do not have to avoid grains. I eat brown rice, quinoa, buckwheat, wild rice and other gluten free grains, and my hashimoto’s is in remission.
Dr. Berg is so anti-vegan, and his information as it pertains to veganism is 100% wrong. He’s giving people the wrong message about it, and there are many plant based doctors and nutritionists that would challenge him any day of the week. You do NOT need animal fat in your diet. You need good healthy fats such as nuts, seeds, avocado, coconut. It provides more than enough fats for your diet.
