Let’s talk about the dangers of consuming sugar.
Here are a few commonly-known dangers of sugar consumption:
• Weight gain
• Dental decay
• Fatty liver
• High cholesterol
• Acne
• High blood pressure
• Candida infections
• Lowered immunity
However, sugar affects the body in deeper ways. Many people don’t know that most diseases are metabolic diseases, and metabolic diseases are related to mitochondrial dysfunction.
A lot of things destroy the mitochondria, but sugar and foods that quickly turn into sugar, like carbohydrates, are at the top of the list.
The effects of sugar on the mitochondria in the cells can set your body up for a cascade of health issues.
How to improve your mitochondria:
1. Go on the ketogenic diet
2. Exercise (HIIT)
3. Try cold therapy
4. Do intermittent fasting
5. Try high-altitude training
6. Reduce stress
7. Get plenty of sleep
8. Avoid alcohol
9. Consume foods high in phytonutrients
10. Consume nutrient-dense foods

Stopped all sugar, vege oils and alcohol 8 months ago, focused on 75% carnivore, 4 to 6 eggs a day, beef, salmon, chicken and some pickled veg. Heavy cream, butter, tallow. Lost 12kg, no more gout, no more joint pain. Better mental clarity, mood. Those “reward” foods and most “recipes” are KILLING you folks! Literally. Just eat real food! It makes going out for food a challenge, but its worth it.
Still get cravings. Been doing this since last year. They won’t ever leave.
I go a few days without chocolates and sweets then i go and buy some i feel better. Idont have sugar in my tea. Have cakes , dont drink fizzy pop. I know sugar is really bad, i do eat pretty healthy otherwise..
Many carnivore eaters give into their cravings for carbs eventually. We’re humans.. It’s about moderation and exercise.
I quit sugar for two days and the third day got severe headache. Then later learned that brain needs glucose and that glucose is its food. Dont go strict on avoiding sugar, unless you are really obese. If you cut sugar eat berries like the doctor says.
Thank you Dr Berg! Sugar was very hard to quit but I haven’t had a belly ache yet since starting Keto. That’s why I started my keto journey. You rock 🥰
I’ll never look back. Since cutting out sugar completely (apart from seasonal berries) *everything* has improved. Thank you Dr Berg for continuing to put out there the information people need to hear.
Good morning and greetings from Aruba. Dr Berg, after listening to ur advice about overactive bladder, I started taking vit B1, Selenium and Potassium.. that night and the next 3 days, I used the bathroom ONCE instead of the normal 3-4 since I was 8. Am 53 now.. I slept the whole night yesterday so NOT once did I pee at night. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
I am 53 and have the bladder of a toddler. Lately I have noticed I don’t use the restroom as often, The sudden urgency is gone, and no having to wear pads due to leakage! This was an unexpected bonus that alone makes this journey worth it!
Can relate, so one brazil nut one small avocado and B1 …think this is the same per day
@sharonthurman2747 Is this done by taking more that a multi vitamin? How much of B1,selenium, potassium do you take if I may ask? I had high levels of selenium before. Is this dangerous?
@Kathy Mannina take the questionaire. Wait I will paste it here
@Kathy Mannina I haven’t taken any supplements at all just doin ketovore since February 25th. It never occurred to me that would be a beneficial side effect. I would say I started noticing about a month into it.
I saw an earlier video of yours 3 months ago and watched many of your informative uploads since. I’m now on the ketogenic diet and fasting for 24 hours. I’ve lost all my excess fat weight, lost the eye bags and healed a 3 month persistent ulcer on my leg, which started healing 3 days after cutting out carbs and sugar. I also have a clear, focused mentality and feel amazing at 52. Thank you for all the information. Anyone can transform their wellbeing with a few adjustments.
Does being in keto diet helps in reducing eye bag? I really have a big luggage under my eyes.
Well done Jason. 👍
@Kiran Shrestha I was using a product to reduce my eye bags, but with minimal results. I believe they are caused by sugar retention in water. But yes, dramatic reduction in keto after a few weeks. Very happy and feeling amazing.
@Spam Mouse Thank you. Small changes made a huge difference 🙏
I was at 350- 400 grams per day sugar. Quitting was the hardest thing I have ever done but I’m so thankful I quit almost 2 years ago. I too had massive weight loss and all blood work and blood pressure magically going back to normal ranges. My biggest surprise was to discover the connection between arthitis and sugar. No more stiff joints for me!
I can’t quit everytime I relapse even after 8 months 😪😪😪
You can do it!
Dairy is bad, too. Even ice cream. Every time I eat it, I wake up with symptoms of a bad cold!
Yep. Sugar = inflammation = arthritis
@Donna Baardsen switch to raw dairy and you will notice the difference
Dr Berg thank you for this. I went through a sugar and carb daily severe craving thing for over a MONTH and broke it yesterday just doing a two day fast. What kicked it off was using kale with butter! So I decided to drop butter mostly and just go with avocado oil. Then I got the willpower back to not be hungry at all again, just feeling that necessary kind of hunger. But man those two months of daily cravings kicked off by dairy I guess. Idk. It got out of hand lol my system didn’t want to use up my stored fat it was all like no that delicious one lol
You should drop the kale, not the butter!!
Very motivating and informative content. Can’t find a more valuable video for today’s eating habits of people around the world. This one video can literally change the lives of some people.
❤
I was not given sweet treats as a child and I never developed a sweet tooth.
Eu também, nunca gostei d doces, nem chocolate, nada,o cafe sempre bebi puro
@Fatima Andres I eat my chocolate at 100% cacao. The 2 squares really do enhance my workout performance. 💪
Been a sugar junkie forever, downing sodas like water. Junk food was my poison, got me on the edge of diabetes and a whole mess of health problems. Then found Dr. Berg’s channel. Stickin’ to his advice like gospel, it’s been a real lifesaver.
Very well done!!
Me too I’m a hard core sugar junkie it’s awful
@Helena Lovelock broke mine with 72hr sardine fast. Was not EVEN the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I take b1 and zinc but that was the key
He’s wrong, that doesn’t make it stop my sugar . . I literally tried & can’t quit it – now what I do is limit it and cram in some fiber/protein right away when I do have some to keep the sugarspike down. Thankfully I easily quit Diet coke almost 2 decades ago & have ice tea with Stevia in place of soda
Dr. Berg literally saved my life no more processed food no more Taco Bell everything I do is real food and I grow vegetables in the small area that I have I grow lots of cruciferous vegetables eat once a day and start off with a big salad maybe some egg cheese and chicken in it but lots of vegetables and I’m 56 and I feel like I’m 25 I don’t even realize I squat down to check something out in the garage I couldn’t squat down a few years ago I was too fat
Thank you, Dr. Berg, for shedding light on the hidden dangers of sugar. It’s eye-opening to realize how much hidden sugar lurks in our everyday food. Many processed foods, condiments, and even seemingly healthy options can be loaded with hidden sugars, contributing to various health issues. It’s important to read food labels carefully and be mindful of ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, or maltose. Educating ourselves about hidden sugars empowers us to make healthier choices. Your videos are truly enlightening and have been instrumental in improving my understanding of nutrition. Thank you for your invaluable insights!
Sugar itself is not dangerous. It’s about how much one consumes it that can make it dangerous for them
@♡tela Thank you for your comment, Tela. We understand your perspective that sugar itself may not be dangerous in moderation, and it’s indeed true that moderation plays a crucial role in our overall health. However, Dr. Berg’s videos and the studies we have followed present the hidden dangers of excessive sugar consumption in our modern diet.
While natural sugars found in whole fruits are accompanied by fiber and other beneficial nutrients, it’s important to note that excessive consumption of even natural sugars can also have negative health effects. Dr. Berg’s emphasis on reducing overall sugar intake, including both added and natural sugars, aligns with the goal of optimizing our health and preventing various health conditions. By raising awareness about the hidden sugars in our everyday food and encouraging mindful consumption, we aim to empower individuals to make informed choices for their well-being. It’s always wise to consider the comprehensive body of evidence and expert opinions to make educated decisions about our health.
Thank you for engaging in this important discussion, and we appreciate your openness to considering different perspectives. Let’s continue to learn and grow together toward better health.
😀
Thank you Dr. Berg for another great video. I avoid sugar like it is poison. I read every label and avoid it. Of course I buy very, very little packaged products. But thank you for being one of the best sources for keeping us healthy. I thank God for providing you in our lives and keeping us all informed/ healthy, safe. You truly are a blessing to all of us.
Thank you Dr Berg, you’ve changed my life. After finding your channel and watching your videos, I’ve lost over 70 lbs by changing to a healthy keto diet and introducing prolonged intermittent fasting. My aches and pains are gone, I get better sleep and no longer feel depressed. You’re the best!
That’s amazing. Well done you
Please how to do keto diet I don’t know how to start? Thank you 🥰
@Q Princess this channel has a beginners guide to healthy keto
Thank you Dr. Berg for all of your wealth of information. I’m very thankful and now I have to retrain myself on my eating habits. I’m not bad and I’m not overweight & that’s sometimes the thing that keeps me stringing the sugar along. I need to get serious and do what is best for my body. I’m bad about overeating…I just keep eating…waiting till I’m full & then overfill hits me & I’m mad at myself. I’m 63 and I know how beneficial this advice can be for my body & brain! 😊 🙏🏻
Hello I commend you for recognizing that you need to make changes..so do I, we are all imperfect but with the help of God we can make these changes
I wish you well on your journey! 😊
Lost 10% body fat in 6 months with a HFLC diet, fasting and working out. From 23% to 13%, starting to see my veins popping already and I just began my journey towards greater health; not using any supplements but instead I eat 3 meals being a salad&fish meal, an eggs/cheese/bacon/sauerkraut meal and a chicken/beef meal with cruciferous vegetables. I don’t even miss the carbs, it’s pretty easy to go low carb when you’re gorging on foods the body actually needs! Dr Berg & Dr Sten Ekberg have been staples for my journey towards becoming the best version of myself diet wise. 💚
@Jill Eisenberg , ok Karen
Thank you Dr.Berg for the continuing work. I started a ketogenic diet 8 months ago and intermittent fasting. Since then, I lost 65 lbs, I cycle frequently and stay active every day. I’m 65 years old and feel 35. My A1C was 8.9, dropped to 5.9 within 5 months. All my numbers are within normal ranges, no more aches and pain and mental clarity is much, much improved.
Apparently I’m totally screwed. I’ve been a type one diabetic since I was 10. I’m now 56. Not only did I treat myself like crap for many years but even when I was trying to eat healthy I was getting such bad info. It never worked so I said “F it I might as well just eat what I want.” Since I found you and others on YouTube I’ve been eating keto and now strict carnivore but I just hope it’s not too little too late. I could be totally screwed at this point. But thanks for what you do and the info you share.
It’s never to late it won’t take 56 years to reverse the damage but it may take 5-6 years , just be consistent don’t beat yourself up if you give in again , pick yourself back up and start again . I have faith God will give you strength, read your Bible and pray for His strength and you will go far 😊
Yes the body is amazing at healing itself, if we let it
I’m knocking on 60 and have been doing fasting and cutting out almost all sugar, avoid bread and processed food.I work 12 to 14 hrs a day on my feet and run circles around the college kids I work with. Walk with wifey on the weekends. I never have any aches or pains and feel like I have more energy than in my 30’s when I was still jogging. I plan to stay healthy during retirement so I may stay active. 😊
You and others have convinced me that sugar and carbs (and snacking) are really the body’s villain. The more I cut it out, the healthier I get. I’ve lost 40 lbs, blood pressure is better, and stomach is so much better. Many thanks.
Like I heard another say, I thought I was just getting old, but I was getting sick.
I am on day 6 water fasting. This is really great motivation to completely clean up my diet afterwards. Consistency is sometimes so hard. That‘s why detailed explanations are so helpful and that I am not the only one on this journey!
