Let’s talk about what lower back pain says about your overall health and what deficiencies you may have.

Typically, people treat lower back pain with medications, and they go on their way. But what is the root cause of low back pain, especially chronic back pain? It's important to consider the connection between nutritional deficiencies and back pain to help get rid of back pain for good.

Vitamin deficiencies that can lead to low back pain:
1. Vitamin D
Vitamin D deficiency can lead to:
• Bone pain
• Inflammation
• Soft bone
• Skeletal problems in children
* Magnesium deficiency and boron deficiency can interfere with your vitamin D levels and can lead to back problems, as well.

2. Vitamin K2
Vitamin K2 deficiency can lead to:
• Stenosis
• Arthritis
• Bone spurs
• Calcium deposits
* Vitamin K2 and vitamin D work together.

3. Vitamin E
Vitamin E deficiency can lead to:
• Back weakness
• Atrophy
* Avoid tocopherols and try a tocotrienol complex or wheat germ oil instead.

4. Manganese
Manganese deficiency can lead to:
• Disc problems
• Collagen problems
• Increased risk of scoliosis

Other things that can cause back pain:
• Consuming omega-6 fatty acids and not consuming enough omega-3 fatty acids
• A diet high in sugar and carbs
• Kidney stones
• Gallstones

  1. Im a retired auto mechanic. I have had lower back pain from bending / leaning over car fenders for 40 years. I changed my diet to limit carbs and sugar and have found that my back pain level has dropped dramatically. When i slipped up and had sweets in my diet the pain reimerged. Cut the sweets and carbs back to low carb and the pain went away. Now to be fair i am supplementing k2/d3 and some other vitamins but i think SUGAR irritates the condition and starts causing the inflammation. Love your channel you have taught me so much over the past two years…..

  2. Been struggling with this for weeks. I’ve been afraid of taking too much Vit D. I’m taking 10,000 iu a day, but was thinking I should increase that. It’s possible I don’t have enough magnesium. Thank you for this. I’ve not been taking as much calcium lately. But can increase K2 and Magnesium. Hoping it will help. I added E tocotrienols a few weeks ago, but it’s not alleviated the pain.

  3. Opioids were prescribed for back pain. People got hooked on them and died from liver or kidney failure. I am so grateful to you Dr. Berg, you are a Blessed Healer.

    • @GinaR. Drug dealing hidden behind a prescription should not have been occurred in the first place. Yesterday was opioids, tomorrow something else.

    • Opioids is the cause why my favourite artist, Prince, died. He had athritis in the hip – just as I have. I take codliver oil, kelp, collagen, turmeric and ginger on a daily basis. I also take long walks, do qigong and yoga every day. Thank you Dr Berg for all you taught me! 🙏💕

    • @Maya Shanti I’ve been taking Codliver oil and multivitamin, for about two months now. Lower back is slowly getting better and stronger. Daily stretches and exercises with resistance band. Do you think that Plane old, ‘fish oil’ is equal to Codliver oil? Is it the same? Thanks

  4. Always great information. Start my day, everyday, watching Dr Bergs videos. The more one puts Dr Bergs information into practice, the healthier one becomes, at any age.

    • Can you please share what you have changed in your health regime that has helped you to get healthy! I can’t go completely on keto because I cannot digest too much proteins and fats. I have no gallbladder! Thankyou for any reply in advance.

  5. Thank you Dr. Berg! Your information is priceless! I’ve known about vitamin K2 for a long time and always take vitamin D3 with K2

  6. I found out I had a severe B12 deficiency, this was causing most of my back pain and other body pain.

  7. Also, just to state the obvious, your mattress matters too. I am on a beyond limited budget so I took the chance and ordered a bed-in-a-box online “medium firm”, which in my opinion was “FIRM”, not only was it under $300 but it was very easy to get to the second floor. I do “improper” things to my lower back regularly and for the first time in quite a while, no lower back pain! Doc Berg is the best, but you have to help him help you too.

  8. Another great video. I’m just sad that I can’t get my family to listen/watch these instead of going to traditional doctors to get a prescription or surgery. I’ll keep trying to spread the word. My father’s back hurts, his spinal column is being compressed and he had 1 surgery to “roto router” it out and there’s the arthritis and macular degeneration. He’s very stubborn, and a retired nurse so he’s smarter than me. 🙁

    • I know right! My mum’s about to undergo a knee operation thinking it’ll fix her osteomalacia 🙈🙉

  10. Great timing again Mr. Berg on this video … my backs been killing me for a few weeks now … keep up the great work ! 🤗

  11. Natural ways to heal our bodies Dr. Berg. Thank you for sharing your incredible knowledge and care with the world. ❤

  12. Thank you Dr Berg for all your time and effort. I’d love it if you could do something on Thyroid Cancer and the problems we then have after it is removed and we need to be on Thyroxine, Thyroid Hormones. I’ve survived stage 3 Melanoma, and then Thyroid cancer, I’m very lucky I know, but it hard to find info on how we can make our lives better or easier with all the complications that we have to navigate for the rest of our lives. Sometimes it really gets me down, it can get dark, but I know that’s selfishbut as a single Dad of 4 incredible children I need to keep going. I was very active and had lots of energy, but that was before I had my thyroid, lymph nodes etc out, and then I was the exact opposite. It’s like I’ve had 2 lives, before TC and then after. I am exhausted all the time and have put on a heap of weight, even while pushing myself to exercise, I’m hoping to find help and hints to make things a little better. I’ll take any info you have with huge thanks. I want to be as active with my kids as I can. But I sometimes struggle. Also I think as children we need to be taught the importance of the thyroid and how to keep it healthy. Thanks again. Cheers from Australia.

  13. I was just telling my family how my lower back is way more stiff than normal these days even though I workout and stretch, I was getting worried because I’m so young for it to be that intense but you made me realize that I havent been taking Vit D (or Magnesium) supplements for a while and my environment is cloudy usually. Now I know what the issue is, thanks Doc!

    • Suggest strengthening the glutes. Most of lower back problems is referred pain from other non working muscles. Helped me get rid of lower back issues

    • @gvenkataram  Does the elliptical count for the glutes? I go on it every other day but I do it for weight loss

  14. Been telling my Mom this for months… Maybe she will see this and listen more. cheers Dr Berg!

  15. Wow, doctor always told me i was low in vitamin d and i have all these issues, thank you Dr you literally revealed my entire well being to me 🤣🎉

  16. Dr.Berg … on another topic thank you so much I received my bile salts after listening to you on a few videos I learned more of what was actually going on with my slow digestion slow stomach emptying! It was causing sensitivity to foods and meds ! After my first day I could actually eat without any discomfort! I shall continue with your formula bile salts! 🙏
