After learning some interesting new information, I’m going to share how to stop overeating and the best way to satisfy your hunger.

There are three things I’ve covered on this topic before:
1. Consume more fat
2. Eat nutrient-dense foods
3. Support healthy digestion

The above three things are important. But the best way to satisfy hunger and stop overeating is to consume the right amount of protein.

One study found that certain insects will continue to eat until their protein requirements are met. If you put these insects on a low-protein diet, they will overeat.

However, you don’t want to consume too much protein. Excess protein is not stored and will convert to sugar. The right amount of protein will give your body what it needs without converting to sugar or fat.

  4. Thanks for the info Dr Berg 🌸 I would say eating fish high in omega 3& zinc too would make me relatively satisfied for longer than eating other foods.

  5. Thanks so much for this valuable information! I have the overeating problem since I was teenager due to my parents and grandparents in Germany who experienced the intense starvation after the war. They imprinted their fear of being starved onto me and made me eat everything off the plate. My psychotherapist pointed it out and recommended that I deal with this issue.

    • Same here (Spain; we had scarcity problems too after the civil war). Also in the school lunch, teachers would force you to eat everything (and they did not made proportional plates, same amount of food for everyone…).

      It also happens at social events due to the need of the host to feel like a good host, but as long as it’s only there, it’s not an issue.

    • Same here. I am from the Netherlands. But fortunately we also ate very healthy foods and our family was never overweight.

  6. Not overeating also means actually stopping when you re approaching feeling full.portion sizing can help,but ,ultimately, slowing Down your meal and paying attention to how you actually feel is one of the best ways to avoid overeating.

  7. I’ve been doing IF/low carb/whole foods for about four years, and I recently learned something important about this with a recent slide backwards. Over about three months I put on a few pounds of fat, and I realized the cause was grazing. I had started grazing, and even though I was eating good foods I was eating more often and more. When I realized this, I went back to my normal 2MAD 18:6 and the fat was gone and I felt better within days. I think the fundamental concept here, for me, is fasting and feasting. Fast for a good long while, even get pretty hungry some times, knowing that when I do eat it is going to be a lot and I’m going to get nice and full.

      Yes, while no need to be strict about 18:6, 20:4, etc. — we should not fear being hungry for a little while – trhough if you just drink something (not sugar water! lol) it ccan often slide past the hunger feeling for a while longer.
      I’ve only been doing fasting lyfstyle for about one year (and am not strict about fasting or ketovore,etc – lots of little cheats haha, etc. ) and I am down 225->185 (male:62)
      Not carrying around that 40 pounds all day, I definitely have more energy and feel better now.

  8. Turning off you TV and sitting down at the table is a great place to start.eating without distractions brings us back to the concept of connecting to the process of nourishing your body,which is what your food is actually meant to do.

  10. Hi, I have a question about an other subject:
    For extracting natural tocotrienols, is it better to grind whole annatto seeds, or just to let them soak in the room temperature in water overnight, for example, or gently cook 5 minutes in oil before filtering? I.e., are the tocotrinols in the whole seed or just in the red color on it.

    And, how much should be eaten per day to get tocotrienols enough?

    PS. It appears that hot water works better than cold, like shown in this video: Bleeding Annatto Seeds.

    • Using supercritical CO2 extraction, you would need approximately 5 to 6 g of raw annatto seeds to get the per day requirements (600-800 mg)

  14. This is helpful. Can you help me understand……should I calculate the amount of protein based on my ideal weight? If I’m currently rather overweight I’m not sure if I should be using that weight to calculate?

I’ve been struggling with my weight and overeating I can’t burn fat like I used to even a few years ago but what I have noticed recently is if I have some beef jerky and pumpkin seeds for lunch at work it kills my Hunger. I think the protein from the meat and pumpkin seeds plus the saltiness of the pumpkin seeds and jerky really play a role. And I like the peppered jerky seems to really satisfy.

Dr Eric: Since my calorie intake for my weight loss diet is about 1800 calories a day, the other day I ate 5 cups of cooked rice (1000 calories) and I didn’t feel full at all after some minutes. But when I eat 1000 calories of cooked of chicken which is about 20 ounces of cooked chicken i feel very full, green vegetables and pineapples also have high satiety index

  17. I’ve been eating keto for quite a while.

    Last night I went to a gathering with lots of food, and it turned into a cheat. I got uncomfortably stuffed. I haven’t felt that full since I went keto….

    I am amazed at how little one can eat when on keto. Two meals per day is plenty on keto…

  18. I have no problem fasting when I’m distracted at my high paced job. Infact I have to remind myself to eat at times. It’s when i have my days off is where I find myself impatiently waiting for my time to eat. So distraction is quite important in my opinion.
