6:33 Learn more about what causes thyroid problems!
Let's talk about hypothyroidism and how it's typically treated.
Treating hypothyroidism with medications like Synthroid can create a dependency on the drug.
A potential side effect of taking Synthroid long-term, especially if a person is post-menopausal, is an increased risk of bone loss.
The thyroid produces more than one hormone, but people are typically treated with only one hormone. So, what about the other hormones?
You need these hormones—they are important for a healthy body. A lack of these essential hormones can lead to various symptoms, like bone loss.
You may want to talk to your doctor about Armour® Thyroid. Armour Thyroid comes from a natural source and contains more than one thyroid hormone.

I took rx for years. Had all types of menopause issues like hot flashes for at least 10 years. Also, had bone loss problems.
I got tired of it one day and decided to stop taking it.
I feel better without it and taking higher amounts of Selenium.
What is rx? Is it synthroid??
For how long did you take synthroid before you go to selen?
@irmila2811 I have taken Armor on and off for most of my life until finally ended up on Naturethroid. Not sure spelling, but all rx: subscriptions.
Then I went to Selenium, B1, B12 and lots of other supplements. Dr. Berg’s videos have helped me figure out deficiencies I have been dealing with.
@R Sollecito Thank you so much for your reply! 🙏🏻❤️
Thank you for this info and video Dr Berg! ❤ I’ve been on levothyroxine since about 2007 , after thyroid ablation, I was in 10th or 11th grade😢. Graves disease.
Sorry
I have Graves Disease too, I’m on methimazole

THANK You!💕
Good morning, Fidel, thank you!
The imbalance of hormones caused by Synthroid® can contribute to reduced bone density.
thank you Fidel , always look for your post
I was on Armour for a while and every time my Dr ran blood labs, they came back worse. So she increased my dose. I took myself off of it because I felt it wasn’t helping if my labs were worse not better. After a while she tried Naturethroid (not sure if spelled right) and that became difficult to get. I took my self off of that. She put me on selenium, iodine, Dulse, and magnesium. I also became a carnivore and my labs are good.
Sounds like you have a pretty good DR…
My husband went on Ancestral supplements Thyroid and his thyroid panel went normal after years of tinkering with synthetic thyroid. He has Hashimotos. We also removed all inflammatory foods especially gluten
@Miffed Microbiologist Do you have a link to that?
I weaned myself off levothyyroxine using kelp and selenium.
@Lilly .. I have been thinking about doing the same..how much kelp you take?
I have taken this medication for 5 years. Never did well on all of them. Tried 5 different brands of synthroid and 1 naturethroid. I felt really bad when I took them. After years of suffering and antibodies being over 600 I changed my diet to gluten and dairy free. Then my TPO antibodies went down to about 150. So now I dont need thyroid medication anymore. I havent taken it since 3 years. My TSH is at 4.5 right now which is not perfect but OK.
Also now I noticed that with paleo my antibodies have decreased again being at 80 right now. I found out that processed foods like industrial produced bread is really bad for the thyroid. Now I bake my own organic bread from buckwheat.
Also if you are not doing well on thyroid medication you probably have a weak adrenal gland, and you should check the cortisol levels in blood and urine.
I have hypothyroid and I’m taking levothyroxine. What is your suggestion for me?
@d avoid gluten, dairy at all cost. Best result you will get with paleo tough. For carbs only eat potatoes, rice and buck wheat. Antibodies have a half life of 3 to 9 months. So you need to be consequent in your diet and no cheating.
Antibodies will be terminated quicker if you do fasting and/or intermittend fasting.
For quickest results do paleo diet and intermittent fasting with eating from 12 to 20 o clock. In 9 months your antibodies will go down and you can survive without thyroid meds. If you decide to quit on the thyroid meds do it slowly. Every week take a little bit less so your thyroid can adjust. But first you need to do the paleo diet and intermittend fasting.
Get a book on paleo and read what you can eat.
Also doing 1 week of keto every 6 weeks or so will help and get rid of antibodies faster.
The whole glyphosate (herbicide in food) issue seems very convincing when you think about how recent the whole gluten and dairy free trend is
@d I was on the same drug for about 3 years and was experiencing hair loss. I stopped taking them about 3 months ago. I go in for a wellness check-up in July. It will be interesting to see where my levels are.
@Jolene Sailer for hairloss you need to take zinc. Hashimoto patients need more zinc than other people
Always the best. Very few look at the whole picture of human health. None better than you Dr Berg. May God protect and prosper you as The World enters the Dark Days ahead. Thank you for your message. Greatly appreciate it. Stay safe and healthy!
Thank you for your video. I just had a thyroidectomy in October 2022 due to nodules that were cancerous. Had the radioactive iodine pill in February 2023 for 6 months targeted treatment for rogue cells. Am on Levothyroxine every day. It took a bit for the level to be right but now I feel great. No complaints. From your video, now I understand why the endocrinologist was focused on my calcium and magnesium levels. Unfortunately, a recent PET scan showed activity in a left throat L3 lymph node at the end of May. Started Ketovore and Intermittent Fasting to starve the cancer. Bonus is I am losing weight and some pain and other symptoms I was living with have gone away. I am thankful the original thyroid nodule was discovered by accident. And it sounds funny, but I am also thankful that the recurrence was found in May. It was the kick in the butt I needed to finally take my health seriously and start eating better. Like an alcoholic hits rock bottom to be willing to take steps towards life again! It has taken me 60 years, but I realize I am a sugar and carb addict. There is no “just one bite”, no moderation for ne. If I take one bite, it winds up being several servings. There is No Off Switch. The Keto/Carnivore way of eating has reduced the cravings. But I know it is only 1 bite away… like poison to me. Thank you for your informative videos, Dr. Berg. God bless you. ❤ To others reading this who may be in the same position, know that if I can do it, You Can Do It, too! 👍😁
have a nice day
Come back and tell us how the diet has affected your cancer, I’m of the opinion that cancer cells thrive on glucose and can not exist on ketones…
Dr. Berg, I had been on Armour thyroid for over a two decades. Now I am back on synthetic thyroid only (T-4). The long term problem the Armour is the it has to much T-3 in the T-4/T-3 ratio. With my limited personal knowledge/use I would say mix synthetic/natural. I don’t know what long term to much T-3 in the body long term effects are either. Personally just glad to be back on Synthetic T-4. Wish I new 30 years ago what I know now.
Hormone imbalances, particularly in growth hormones, can lead to weakened and brittle bones.
A friend of mine also used Synthroid® and experienced the side effect of bone thinning. She had to make lifestyle changes to ensure better bone health. My friend regularly engages in activities such as swimming, walking, and practicing yoga to enhance bone strength and flexibility. She also limits the consumption of bone-thinning substances like caffeine and alcohol, and increases the intake of calcium and vitamin D in her diet. Thanks to these changes, my friend has seen significant improvement in her bone health.
I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. It runs in my family going back several generations. Mainstream doctors in public clinics don’t seem to know anything about it. They think that a complete thyroid panel is testing your T4 levels as well as your tsh. They only prescribe synthroid and act like Armour Thyroid is snake oil. I developed a goiter. The doctors didn’t even know what they were looking at on the sonogram. I came to realize that when a doctor stands behind you and feels your neck, they don’t know what they are even feeling. I eventually had my thyroid removed. I don’t metabolize synthetic thyroid hormones very well and so was miserable and pretty non-functional for many years. I can’t even describe the misery. I didn’t get good thyroid care until I found a private doctor who is a Functional Medicine doctor. I have to pay out of pocket to see her, but it’s worth it. She restored quality of life to me. I now take Armour thyroid along with a small dose of synthroid. Mainstream doctors have said, “Oh, my God! She’s going to give you heart damage! Is she even a real doctor!??” Mainstream public clinic doctors are owned by Big Pharma.
After decades of taking synthetic my body had severe reactions to trying to take natural. Had to go back to synthetic. I take Synthroid and Cytomel. Been on meds 37 years, since I was 20. Had my thyroidectomy 3 years ago. Still have my parathyroid.
Was on Synthroid for about 2 1/2 years never felt like myself, went to a natural path (as my Dr refused to try a more natural approach) and placed on desiccated thyroid, game changer! Feel like I’m 30 again and my labs are perfect, T3 T4 excellent levels. It’s a horrible drug causes osteoporosis and makes you crazy! 😮
Can you please share what you are now taking, greatly appreciated!
It’s called desiccated thyroid, very similar to armour thyroid, It’s what my naturopath said would work for me based on my blood work. It is made by a compounding pharmacy. I’m in Canada and Dr’s push big pharm, this medication is 1/3 the price. The Synthroid made me feel so weird, not myself. I’m 58 and have been taking it for about 4 years now, feel so much better, but everyone’s different. 🙋🏼♀️🇨🇦 Hope that helps. 🥰
@Charlene Di Monte Excellent, Thank you so much for sharing! So very happy to hear that you are doing so much better! 😊✌❤
how many mg of the desiccated do you take and how much does it cost per month ?
@TL right now I am at 60mg, it’s based on your blood work, TSH, T4 and T3 levels. We have a health plan so I pay $8 for 90 pills. 🇨🇦
What a great informative video! I have been on synthroid for approx 15 years now and am suffering with osteo arthritis and extreme back pain in the same place as that guy was addressing in your video. I always wondered about natural sources…in Canada it seems very difficult to have doctors change what they are familiar with and the patient suffers. Chronic pain can be debilitating but I have saved your video and will have a talk with my doc next time I see him. Thanks again for your insight!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Do you mind letting me know what your doc said/will say? I feel regular docs will dismiss this.
I tried Armour once. And that was enough. It made me feel like my metabolism & energy were super hyper right after taking it, then 3-4 hours later I was so worn out I couldn’t do any work whatsoever. I’m back on 125mcg of Levothyroxine (Synthroid) and it works great for me.
This is so extremely helpful. I’m so glad you spoke about people who had their thyroid removed, like me. Very few places discuss what happens when the thyroid is removed. I didn’t know about the increased of osteoporosis, my grandmother had severe osteoporosis, she bent over to tie her shoes and her back broke. She recovered but had several breaks in the last 20 years of her life, she lived till 98.
Dr Berg channel is the library for medical education. Thank you so much and so much Dr Berg and his team❤
I was prescribed Synthroid for Hashimoto’s but it made me feel worse and gain more weight. My doctor rolled her eyes at me when I reported the issues, and when I finally got a dr to prescribe Naturethroid, I started to feel better. Sadly, there’s been a Naturethroid shortage for a couple of years, so I’ve been on Armour….not quite as effective as Naturethroid, but still better than Synthroid.
Get dessicated thyroid from forefront health
I’ve was on Synthroid for years with horrible sides effects. I heard of about thyroid armor from my own research. I started it a few months ago, I feel 100 times better. It has been a game changer.
Hi, Dr. Berg. I had a thyroidectomy 11 years ago. For 11 years I have been noticing a big change in my body, in my appearance, in my hair (which just seems to fall out of my head), but mainly, in my disposition. Gradually my ability to carry out my tasks was greatly reduced. I feel extremely tired, my bowel also works very poorly, I was already diagnosed with osteopenia even before I reached menopause and this scares the hell out of me! The worst thing is that I discovered that the higher the Vitamin D3, the more the PTH drops (mine is at 15), and the PTH is the only resource I still have to keep a little calcium in my organism (and the vitamin D3 is which increases intestinal absorption), so I find myself in a big dilemma about keeping D3 levels high and preserving my PTH.
I always asked about how our body can maintain itself without calcitonin, but the doctors always ignored me. I have been without follow-up for 8 years, just looking for information like yours to take care of me. I developed a very big weakness in my teeth (cavities) and I still have bruxism (which prevents the possibility of restoring my teeth), I want to put a dental implant but I worry if I will have bone condition for it. I also developed digestive problems, depression, a lot of anxiety and panic because of hypoparathyroidism, any stress the calcium levels drop a lot, and these tingling in the face, spine, feet, or feet bending, are not easy to feel. Even to draw blood in the laboratory is a torment, I can’t keep that rubber attached to my arm for a long time, it seems that I can’t feel my arm anymore, it seems that it greatly reduces the supply of blood and calcium to it. It’s not easy to have this life, I’ve thought about putting an end to it many times. What I can say is that I am extremely grateful to Dr. Eric for so many teachings, you are an angel in our lives, because you really care about true health and well-being. Not even if I lived a thousand years would be enough to thank you.
