Let’s talk about the signs you’re consuming too much salt. 

Top signs you’re consuming too much salt: 
• Edema (in the eyes, hands, feet, or lower legs)
• Thirst
• High blood pressure 
• Headache
• Restlessness
• Irritability 
• Nausea 
• Fatigue 

Top signs of sodium deficiency: 
• Weakness 
• Low blood pressure 
• An increase in neurotransmitters 
• Vascular stiffness and high blood pressure 
• Insulin resistance

In my opinion, the most common cause of high blood pressure is insulin resistance. Many things can contribute to insulin resistance, including a high-carb diet, intermittent fasting, and a low-sodium diet. 

The most common treatment for high blood pressure is diuretics. But, diuretics can cause you to lose both sodium and potassium. 

People who are salt sensitive or who have symptoms of a sodium deficiency are really deficient in potassium. Sodium and potassium work together in the body, and you need twice as much potassium as you do sodium. The average person needs 2300mg of sodium and 4700mg of potassium per day. 

The more carbohydrates you have in your diet, the more potassium you’ll lock up, making it unavailable. It’s important for people with diabetes to get on a low-carb diet and consume foods high in potassium or a good electrolyte powder. 

We need sodium in our diets, but not just sodium chloride—we need the whole mineral balance. This is why it’s best to consume sea salt.

  1. Having been a swimming pool contractor for 38 yrs, and working 10hr days in the sun, I did have unusually low BP and craved salt. I’d buy a jug of lemon Gatorade and pour salt in it. Interesting to learn this now. I have high BP and try to limit sodium, lemon juice is a great substitute for salt!

    • @Αgapy I’d drink up to 3 gallons of water a day and hardly ever urinate, sweat it all out. The only thing I can think of that kept me from developing kidney stones was I take magnesium every day. I quit building pools back in 08. I drink water, tea & coffee. Very little salt or sugar, more of a honey person now, I just discovered “bee-bread”, I take a teaspoon daily. My late mom was an RN, always advising me on supplements, I’ve always tried to be proactive on my health. Glad I found your channel, you too have been a wealth of information. Thank you!

    • Stay away from Gatorade and ANY sugar drinks.

      You worked outside and your body is craving Potassium.

      Ya see how you craved salt yet you’ve got high BP? And your taught your diet has to much sodium which is why you have high BP, and you worked outside in hot elements for years? Because your body thirst for Potassium AND the high BP comes from too much carbs/sugar.

  3. I love mineral sparkling water. It is sold everywhere and it is cheap, and comes in huge assortment here in Russia. Most of it is a natural mineralization water from deep underground sources. Also you can pick water with correct amount of ions for you if having a deficiency. No sugar, no flavorings just water😂

    • Not required when on the standard American diet… however this can make you become a diabetic. Salt consumption rises when transitioned to LCHF diet or dizziness occurs (aka Keto flu)

A few years ago my Dr was wanting to put me on a Statin, instead I listened to Dr Berg’s advice (and a few other, Dr. Shaun Baker, Dr. Berry, Dr. Saladino, Thomas Delauer), I not only have no need to take a medication anymore but I lost 40lbs, and improved my cholesterol markers and testosterone markers, which my own Dr. Doesn’t understand how I can improve those without his help😂

  8. Potassium and sodium go hand-in-hand. When I’m working out hard, & sweating heavily, I have salt tablets, and coconut water. Boom! I feel so much better.

  9. I found through watching your other videos about potassium that I had become very sensitive to my requirement for Potassium. At nearly 69 years old I’ve never had a blood pressure problem until recently. Now, where I routinely take 5000 mg of potassium in divided doses throughout the day, I have no problems. Sodium is difficult to measure (2300 mg) since it’s so prevalent but in the normal course of my days if I take less than 5000 mg K+, I do have elevated blood pressure. I had to remind my alternative doctor (that I do EDTA chelation therapy with) of the sodium potassium pump! Thank you for all you do! 💖🙋‍♀️🇨🇱

  12. crazy he made this video today. My blood pressure went wild last week to 160/90 from normal BP. I suspected it was low potassium since I was essentially doing carnivore with A LOT of a salt haha. Added potassium this week from supplementation alongside beet greens and spinach in a smoothie and back to normal. My BP does spike after meals though (assuming from the sodium). However, I suspect as I stabilize my potassium levels, these spikes will level off. Fasting BP back to normal now. Thank you for confirming my theory with this video! BTW, doctor never even asked about diet or recent lifestyle changes, just gave me BP medication. Useless….

    • Be careful with spinach and beet greens. They are extremely high in Oxalates and can silently create huge problems!

    • @Ian Stuart I have been cooking them before to remove as many oxalates as possible. I read it can remove roughly 90% of the oxalates and increase the potassium. Hopefully that is true. Thank you for the comment.
