Today I’m going to share the fastest way to test for bowel disease and gut problems at home.
Bowel disease typically relates to your microbes. You have trillions of microbes in your gut, and there could be an alteration in the amounts or types of these microbes.
Fiber is important to help feed your microbes. However, even though many people might disagree, whole grains are not a healthy source of fiber.
You may also want to avoid functional fibers that are in certain products, including keto products. Vegetables are a great source of fiber, and they’re also very nutrient-dense.
There are three general categories of microbes living in and on your body. There are harmful microbes, friendly microbes, and neutral microbes.
A lot of the microbes in your gut can actually morph from neutral to bad. This can happen when the environment of your gut changes.
A few things that can change the environment in your gut are:
• Stress
• Antibiotics
• Glyphosate
• Drugs
• Junk food
• Artificial sweeteners
How to test for gut problems at home:
Step 1: Eliminate all fiber from your diet for three days
Step 2: Add the fiber back into your diet for three days
Step 3: Compare how you felt while you were consuming fiber and while you weren’t
If fiber is causing your gut problems and you have to cut it out, your microbes can still survive. If your body doesn’t function well with fiber—don’t consume it.
Fermented foods are fantastic for supporting your microbes. If you want to eventually introduce fiber back into your diet, try foods containing fermented fiber, like sauerkraut and kimchi.

Your calm, clear and straight to the point delivery on every topic you speak on … really is wonderful in a time where no one had time. You get right to it and stick to it and when you’re done … it’s done. I love it. I love your videos. Thanks🎉
Beautifully articulated. You said it for the majority of us. Thank you 🥰
I noticed just a little over a year ago grains were behind most of my gut issues. I have to be very careful about how much bread I eat and where I used to eat oatmeal, and even eventually went gluten free with my oatmeal, when I cut it out all together there was a shift. No more brown rice, white rice, none.
Hii there, do you know if all grains should be avoided? For example does rice also have gluten or phylic acid? Can you give a list of all grains you avoid?
@Asma Siddiqui You can find Dr.Gundry on Youtube as well. He is talking more about plant paradox and grains etc. Those two – Dr.Berg and Dr.Gundry are the only ones I trust and listening!!!
Why avoid rice as well? It doesn’t contain gluten? Thanks!
I noticed the same thing over the past 10 years actually. And now, I can’t eat grains. Causes major gut/intestinal issues. I have the same problem with most vegetables too. So, I only eat avocadoes and bananas mainly, eggs, plain toast, cheese, some meats and white potatoes. And now I’m fine. Beans and Oatmeal ARE THE WORSE for me 🤢
@Tore Ege Still carbs. Carbs are bad
Dr. Berg, I wish all doctors explained things this easily, but All they prescribed in the hospital is prednisone without finding out what is happening. The side effects of prednisone are too many.
And the worst thing to take if you have Lyme. It has its place but given out like candy to the unsuspecting.
I would like to make a point here. My adult granddaughter has Celiac Disease. Her entire life she has been in/out of mental hospitals with suicidal and depression issues. She was not even able to drive. Two years ago she was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. With her going GF, she no longer has the mental issues…….is off medication……..can drive…….and is studying to be an herbalist. What a COMPLETE change. What an AWESOME change. So, while
gluten affects people physically……….it very well can affect a person mentally. Anyone with any type of mental issues SHOULD be tested for Celiac Disease, and take the diagnosis extremely seriously.
I’m so happy for your granddaughter! This is why I appreciate Dr Berg. The normal allopath would not advise trying these things, they’d put us on drugs.

@Robbie.B or for life
Great video. Thank you for the straight forward conversation. Bowel health is super important and gut health is everything! Blunt talk is so healthy!
Good morning. I really enjoy your videos. They are straightforward and easy to understand. It is great how you get to the point within a reasonable amount of time. Thank you Dr. Berg.
He does it again. As if he read my mind and knew what i wanted to know more about because I’m dealing with those problems and he just so happened to release a video containing those infos at such a coincidence, like always.
Same!!! I’ve been researching all weekend, and here come DrBerg! 😊
I used to have Crohn’s….a combination of nutrition, biologics, and fasting has reversed much of the damage. Should have paid attention to it right away, but I was an ignorant kid..
Tell us. What did you do?
I am from india(tamil nadu)..i really want you talk about our foods! We have many similar traditions as you mentioned in your videos! Liking having a cup of kefir will help us to fall asleep quickly! There are many species we are using to digest like jeera water…so please do a research..!
I have finally figured out, after almost 15 years that i have leaky gut and sibo. So much pain and suffering i have endured because the so called doctors just said it was IBS. So many years wasted on being tired all the time. Finally now im doing something about it, but the leaky gut issue is by far the most difficult to fix.
try raw sheep milk?
I had stomach cramps for years until one doctor tested for H pylori and gave me two weeks of antibiotics. The antibiotics worked but my teeth got plaque and I got eczema. I started to take probiotics and the eczema went away. I am guessing the antibiotics killed most of my good bacteria
What exact probiotics did you take? Struggling with similar issues.
@friesmj I took align, which has Bifidobacterium longum.
@Helios Thank you!
Having Ulceritive colitis what helps is eating alot potatoes. Mine’s been in remission now for 12 years. I found every time I ate potatoes it would get better. I would add that to the doctors diet. Thank you for helping people, doctors didn’t even know how to help me.
I would just add to this that I can only eat organic potatoes because I am sensitive to glyphosate. The potatoes in the UK are very high in glyphosate as it is used to dry out the leafy plant before lifting the potatoes. If I eat too much glyphosate I get gut issues, my muscles twitch, I experienced un specified anxiety and I struggle to sleep.
My boy has lots of gut issues, lots of cramps and gas and my wife keeps filling him up with fiber. Going to have her watch this video as myself, his dad, I can’t deal with too much fiber it makes me bloat and have gut pains due to too much gas etc.
Thank you Dr. Berg, for all amazing videos. Please, make a video about lectins. I had some sensitivity to gluten and now I notice I can’t tolerate lectin containing foods as well, which gave me lots of chronic skin issues like melasma and chronic health problems. I just eat organic, gluten free and taking lots of supplements which non of them are really helping.
Here’s some videos that may help!

I had IBS for about 14 years. Went on keto/ IF and am now cured!
Wonderful!
Been about a year since ditching the grains, fruits, legumes, and tubers, and going keto (though admittedly, I’ve eaten them a few times periodically) and my gut health has vastly improved.
That’s fantastic! Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much Dr. Berg as always! It was another great and important video.❤
My pleasure!
All of my life I have struggled so much with my gut. I grew up watching my parents struggle with their gut, too. It was terrible and is. They constantly overloaded us with crazy amounts of fiber as kids, they didn’t know better. We ate lots of flax seeds, whole wheat breads & cereals, etc. I think it messed with me, especially. I have never had a moment where I can’t remember being in some sort gut pain. It doesn’t last very long.
I had bowel problems all my life on and off and 5 yrs ago was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer, luckily when they did the r/h hemicolectomy they also managed to repair the other damage the cancer latched onto. After 8 months of chemo ( which I don’t wish on anybody !) I’m just out of my 5yrs and still here. I only knew something was wrong when I passed black stools, and was more tired than I’d ever been in my life. They removed a grapefruit sized tumour and some muscle and 5 lymph nodes. I would always recommend you check your stools if you have abdomen ache that just won’t go away. Also if your bowel habits change and your REALLY tired get checked out asap 👍😉
Thank you Dr Berg for your outstanding feedback.
What about organic psyllium husk? Is that considered a bad fiber? Is that good for the digestive system? I am not sure if it’s sometimes also behind my IBS.
