I want to clear up some confusion about electrolyte powder and explain why it’s so beneficial.

Electrolytes are electrically charged minerals. One of the main purposes of electrolytes is to power the nervous system, which powers the muscles and organs.

Electrolytes are responsible for important functions in the body, including:
• Nerve transmission
• Muscle contraction
• Fluid movement (hydration)
• pH
• Energy

Electrolyte deficiency can impact the body in many different ways. Side effects of electrolyte deficiency can include:
• Weakness
• Fatigue
• Brain fog
• Dehydration
• Palpitations
• Dizziness
• Cramps (especially at night)

Top causes of electrolyte deficiency:
• Consumption of refined carbs or sugar
• Diuretics
• Stress
• MSG
• Excess water consumption
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Diabetes
• Sweating

Generally, two types of electrolytes are available: sport and regular. My Sports Hydration Electrolytes, for example, contain a different balance of potassium and sodium than my regular Electrolyte Powder.

This is because when you exercise and sweat, you need more sodium. It wouldn’t be a problem if you took my regular Electrolyte Powder while exercising, but you must take extra sea salt during the day.

Sodium and potassium are two vital electrolytes for the body, and it’s crucial to have them in the correct balance. The daily requirement for potassium is 4700 mg, which can be challenging to get from the diet alone.

You need to consume at least seven to ten cups of salad daily to get the potassium you need. This is why many people choose to enhance their diet with electrolyte powder.

If we look closer at different electrolyte powders, mine has more potassium and sodium by far. Other top brands only contain three electrolytes and insane amounts of sugar.

Compared to Dr. Berg Sports Hydration Electrolytes, which contain five electrolytes in much higher amounts, with trace minerals and zero sugar. It has organic stevia, natural flavoring, and no hidden maltodextrin.

  1. This is exactly what I needed to hear today as I just bought some from Dr. Berg! Thanks so much!😊

  2. I remember when I first started with Dr Berg’s electrolytes I had twice the energy within days. It’s very effective.

  3. I would like to thank you for your information for your dedication and for the Outlook on health. I am sure that it has helped hundreds of thousands of people I know it has with me. I have learned so much and I have done my homework also and that is why I say thank you for your knowledge.

  4. Dr. Berg, your electrolyte powders are the real deal, very good quality products. I will continue to buy them. They make me feel good when drinking them in spring water. Thank you and your team for all the quality products that you have to offer for us!

  5. Thank you for this video. Many of these symptoms I have had before and after starting keto. I have actually been looking for electrolyte powder without sugar(s) or artificial sweeters in it and hadn’t been able to find any until now. I ordered some to try.

    • His has stevia in it, so it is very sweet to me. If he only made some without the sweeteners I would buy it. I have some already with the stevia in it.

  6. I use Dr Bergs electrolytes and they are great. The high potassium is one of the reasons I choose it, but the other minerals are also in great proportion too. Since using his sports electrolytes I have not gotten cramps on my endurance exercises.

  7. I have Dr Berg electrolyte powder, I like it. I know 1 of those other drinks he spoke of has all kids of funky ingredients that aren’t allowed in other countries. There are 2 “recipes” of that product, one for the United States ,with nasty ingredients, one recipe for outside of the United States, without the nasty ingredients. There are so many foods other countries refuse to import from the United States, scary. Thank God there are people like Dr Berg trying to educate us on natural remedies.

    • His has stevia in it, so it is very sweet to me. If he only made some without the sweeteners I would buy it. I have some of his already with the stevia in it.

  8. As a long time cyclist I’ve tried so many electrolyte mixes and the Dr. Berg electrolyte mix completely resolved my severe nighttime leg cramps. I suggest you test order a sample pack to see what flavors you like. Some are awesome and some don’t work for my tastebuds at all. The great thing is Dr. Berg’s powders are not overly salt laden. I highly recommend this product.

    • Thanks for sharing! I have Hypokalemia so I’ve been wanting to stock up on a electrolyte powders, just to have extra on hand. Being deficient in potassium and magnesium, I need a high quality electrolyte powder so I’ll be placing an order for this.

  9. I use the DrBerg Electrolyte powder for years now, it is the only supplement I consider absolutely essential, other than maybe the Vit.D + zinc formula depending on how much sunlight you get throughout the year and given how poor the soils are in trace minerals these days. Refilling your electrolytes makes such a difference in controlling hunger and eating less often. The body often signals electrolyte deficiency as hunger. Drinking the electrolytes allows you to fast intermittently quite easily and even doing dry fasting for 24-36 hours if you do OMAD and have the electrolyte drink within the eating window. Also very refreshing during summer time and replenishing if you do either resistance or endurance training. My own version of the drink is 1 tsp of Himalayan pink salt + juice of 1 lemon + 1.5 to 2 scoops of powder all mixed into 1.5L of spring water, best served cold. Perfect flavour and refreshment.

  10. Thank you! I appreciate the reminder about Maltodextrin, and the knowledge and clarity on the uses of electrolytes and the basis of sugar being the antithesis of electrolytes since sugars (carbs and starches) _deplete_ electrolytes.

All of your information is useful!

    Thank you!

  11. I appreciate all your research and videos. I’ve been following you for a few years. I have ordered your electrolytes for myself and my dad at the time he was alive. We both felt the powder was too sweet with stevia. I squeeze lemon with it. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge.

  12. Dr Berg, The Caribbean needs you as Dengue cases are rising along with deaths, we would love a video on this and how to fight it with your applied knowledge! (please thumbs up this comment so Dr Berg can see it!)

  13. Excellent video Dr Berg! .. Electrolyte Powder is extremely essential for optimal health. My potassium got so low back in September that i was rushed to the ER. That was an expensive lesson. I am going to start taking Dr. Berg’s powders!!

  14. Thanks Doc!! I’m glad that you are Focusing on this topic!! This is the 3rd most important element, that you cover, in my health and wellbeing. First is fasting. The second is fat, protein and Veggie ratio. I feel GREAT & JOYFUL. But without electrolytes I wouldn’t be able to get into exercise at all. I make all my own meals now… and finally now I make my own electrolytes mix .. and yes, your product is a very important part of my mix. p.s. I call it Brondo, just for fun

  15. Thanks for the information in this video! Good to clarify on how this stuff works. For people looking for alternatives that are unable to access Dr Bergs product affordably, Gatorade has stepped up their game and launched a newer product called “G Fit” and it is a much better formula than their original crap. It’s still not as good as Dr Berg’s but for convenience it is out there in some grocery stores and random places. (in Canada)

  16. I have been using this for about a month and it has really made a difference! Thank you Dr. Berg. I love your D3K2 as well.

  17. Well done . The discussion on hydration and electrolytes is helpful . I do eat large quantities of veggies . I call it the vegetable matter diet . My way of getting me to eat them is to grind them up in a food processor . The mixing and the smaller particles makes it tasty and easier to digest . I also mix in pinto beans , canned mackerel and half the time I will have a egg on top . I sprinkle yeast flakes on top for flavor . I am addicted to it and my body craves it . I have been incorporating more Himalayan salt . As with many I thought salt was bad for blood pressure . My athletic go to is hydrate before , lick my finger and dip in powdered Himalayan salt and dip in chili powder . The blood vessels in the mouth absorb some of the minerals so to bypass the digestive system and immediate use of them . Never cramp and don’t have that extreme thirst . So I have avoided supplements and have naturally acquired what my body needs . I also go through periods of stir frying those veggies to aid in times of helping with digestion . Right now I have a athletic injury so I am in cooking mode . So natural is possible and delicious.

  18. I’d love to hear your thoughts on low electrolytes could cause seizures. I have epilepsy and have associated seizures with low electrolytes, for example I had a seizure last year after an intense cardio session where I would have been depleted in electrolytes after only drinking water. Would love to hear has anyone made similar conclusions. Thanks for the content, I really appreciate everything you do
