Let’s talk about how to stop period pain or menstrual cramps.

With period cramps, you experience cramping in the lower part of the body. It’s the uterus itself that’s cramping or contracting, which can cause a painful period.

A great way to get instant relief from menstrual cramps is to try stretching. To do this stretch, you need to lay on your stomach and push your hands into the ground straightening your arms and stretching your back.

However, to get to the root cause of the issue and get rid of menstrual cramps, we need to lower a chemical in the body called prostaglandins.

People will typically use ibuprofen to lower prostaglandins. But ibuprofen has side effects. Thankfully, there are natural alternatives you can try to help lower prostaglandins.

The best natural remedies for menstrual cramps:
1. Cinnamon
2. Vitamin D3, calcium, and magnesium
3. Omega-3 fatty acids (cod liver oil)

  1. I experienced so many problems throughout these years, but after watching your videos and improving my lifestyle I feel wonderful before and during my periods. Now I know the reason specifically. My Vitamin D3 was extremely low. Thanks to Dear Dr. Berg.

  2. I remember one time having such bad cramps…

    My stomach was killing me
    I couldn’t stand up
I was sweating and freezing at the same time
Almost threw up several times because of the pain

    It was absolutely horrible 🥲

Edit: my mother is acutely intolerant to cinnamon 😭 but she doesn’t get her periods anymore due to age

    • there’s one more: raspberry leaf! powerful uterine tonic and anti-spasmodic. you can get it in tincture form, leaf form or as a tea. even better — when cramps hit, sip a raspberry-rich liquor like Chambord. when my boxer dog was pregnant i added raspberry leaf to her dog food. when she was ready to birth vet thought she’d have one, maybe two pups. *she had five.* easy labor too.

  3. Just in time for me, thank you. I’ve always had terribly painful periods. They got a bit better after I had kids, but I’m still down for a day with the cramps.

  4. Great info. I would love some help with PMDD. It’s a topic most doctors don’t want to touch on, lot of times writing a prescription, and I just don’t go that route. It’s been easier than it was in my 30’s, but I still struggle pretty hard before my bleeding starts.

  5. My stomachs been hurting since yesterday I took a pain pill but it’s still hurting this video just came in handy!! Great info I love that stretch pose it fixed my sciatica ❤

  6. Dr. Berg in the 1980s I took evening primrose oil capsules for my painful periods, and it was a miracle! I had no PMS, no cramping. When my period arrived, it was always a surprise, because I no longer had any symptoms.

  7. Just in time! My period is so painful I sometimes throw up. I couldn’t sleep yesterday because of the pain, even ibuprofen wasn’t helping 😪 I’m going to try this. I’ve also heard raspberry leaf tea can help and plan to try that as well.

    • @jamie I always thought it was until I read differently online! But whenever I mention it to the doctors they either brush me off or just want to put me on birth control which I refuse to go back on, so I just live with it unfortunately

  8. I always did these stretches with my arms stretchout against the wall and pulling my hips towards the wall. Huge relief.

  9. for those who experience chills or find relief by applying dry heat to the abdomen or lower back areas — if you don’t have a hot water bottle you could use a hiker’s trick and keep mylar reflective material (that you can cut to any size) or a mylar blanket on hand. *do not* put the cut-able sheet panel directly against skin because radiating heat will cause sweating which will cause chills. instead sandwich the mylar square between two pieces of soft cotton flannel material. feel the warmth.

  10. Information like this should be regularly available to everyone. when I was a teen, no information was out there except take Tylenol or something. If you don’t take it before the symptoms, it makes it ineffective. Not to mention some women can experience server diarrhea and vomiting, which makes taking anything by mouth impossible. As I got older, natural methods like heating pads, etc. helped. But without instructions, how do you know when to take what. I would literally not eat for like 3 days until I felt somewhat functional when I was younger. My doctor recommended birth control pills to help with the symptoms. Basically, over the years I tried almost every random thing on the internet and recommended by doctors. Smh.

  11. Dr. Mindy has great info about what to do the week before your period to help you not cramp. BUT Dr. Bergs video is great about what to do WHEN you have the cramps!! Thank you for this great info Dr. Berg! I love that you teach us how the body works and how things affect the body! 👏👏👏

  12. I’d love to see a video on colloidal silver and its effects on the body. Maybe you’ve made one and I’ve missed it. Love the content and all of the amazing medical insights you have. Keep up the great work.

  13. What I realized was that, each time I worked out while on my peez the pain wasn’t that bad and the blood flow was quicker than when I wasn’t working out. I think this can help too.
