I have done both low carb and high carb
I simply feel better with low carb and use that as my primarily determinate of which dietary approach to favor
Each person should do their own experiment and choose the diet that achieves metabolic health while making you feel better
Talvez você se sentiu com mais energia porque o corpo queria conseguisse obter alimentos nutritivos e com carboidratos. Carboidratos são saudáveis e não são açúcar refinado.
@Rafael Translation “Maybe you felt more energetic because your body wanted to get nutritious, carbohydrate-rich foods. Carbs are healthy and not refined sugar.”
I think it was the anti-nutrient causing GI upset
Did veganism for 2 years…now carnivore. ‘Nuff said.
yeah.. you are an extreme person who wants to resolve your problems with diet 🙂
@Sami Savola basically, yeah. Veganism landed me very sick tho
Balance is key. It doesn’t make a difference to me when it comes to low/high carbs. Plus I workout a lot unlike most people
You’re going to get carbs just by eating vegetables which you should eat for your gut anyway.
This was a good one, concise yet lots of information
Thanks for the info
Animal based, you swing in and out of mild ketosis. You can go deeper into ketosis with fasted exercise or go the opposite way with some raw dairy. This way deuterium is lower, lots of fat soluble vitamins, plenty of bioavailable protein, fat is at adequate levels for detoxification, glycine can be high – the answer is simple.
With cinnamon, curcumin, acv, and fiber I can eat carbs just fine. Just blunt the spike! Last night I ate half a medium pizza followed by 5 eggo waffles for desert and weight 1 lb more today. It will be gone by tomorrow. This is the highest carb I do outside of holiday meals. Usually I’m meat heavy diet.
Can you explain a little bit more?
I’m low-carb and occasionally keto vegan. Online, both vegans and non-vegans alike spread this idea that vegan and keto cannot coexist. It feels like there’s a war between high-carb vegans and low-carb omnivores. Both are annoying and wrong for making this out to be some black-and-white issue when it’s not.
It’s a struggle for me restricting my calories with carbs: I’m always hungry. But I know I have to cycle out of Ketosis- just my experience.
Low(er) Carb , eating once a day gave me the same result as no carbs. So the Warrior Diet Basically. I always start with protein/fat and end with Carbs, even some ice-cream. Lost weight, optimal blood pressure and I can keep running which was hell on Keto.
Any advice on high cortisol on low carb? Should we worry?
Glad you covered the subject matter. Some of the advocates of no carb fail to mention that they actually cycle through no carb and carb and diets.
i dont need calories, for energy.
That’s the sun’s job.
The sweet spot (at least for me) is higher carb (100-150g net carbs but TONS of fiber from veggies – also incorporate strategies like ACV and such to blunt insulin), low-fat, but still supplementing high quality lean protein animal products. I do this (after fasted workout) with morning OMAD (so only getting single spike of insulin – and insulin sensitivity better in morning – instead of carbs raising it multiple times a day) and get amazing results.
what do you call results
@Giuseppe LeGange if I could post pic I would but lost 8% of my body weight in 2 months. I’m down to 16% body fat percentage which is leanest I’ve ever been able to get.
Low fat is better for me too only ever seen results with that
Now this is my favorite subject Siim, thank you.
I used to thrive on Keto for years but as my training increased and I really wanted to achieve high numbers I had to carb cycle and later eat carbs everyday to avoid burn out and cranked cortisol.
By training early in the morning, pushing the fast until lunch (total of 16-18 hours) and drenching my carbs in tons of fat I can eat 300-500g carbs per day and still feeling as good as I did on Keto. High Carb + High Fat + High Calorie = High test.
Aren’t you worried about mixing carbs and fat like some people, Randle cycle etc?
@Voodoo Chile Not really.
Healthy saturated fat slows the digestion of carbs which prevents a fast rise (and fall) of blood sugar. Eating a big mac or a pizza with tons of vegetable oil and trans fat is not the same thing. Im Scandinavian so it would make sense I would thrive on a fatty foods mixed with carbs as my people survived on milk, pork, fatty fish and wheat for thousands of years. Carbs might be optimally absorbed when eaten alone, but if you fall asleep doing it, whats the point?
@Vinter Sorg I totally agree with everything you say. I’m just asking cus people tend to be afraid of mixing them but I’m not. I eat high fat high carb currently, bulking. High fat is my base but if I go low on carbs I definitely feel some wierd stuff going on in my body so I def need carbs but also fats.
I’m also Scandinavian btw, I’m Swedish. So I think I have good genes to eat high carb high fat.
I am 55 and been oil free vegan (whole food plant based) for 34 years. I have dabbled in low carb and vegan keto occasionally and I can tell you the benefits to just how you feel on Wfpb is just astounding and gives a kind of radical happiness feeling. Can I challenge you to an experiment of four months of whole food plant based with fat calories 10-20% for you to share how you do? I assure you that nothing but good would come of it.
Pretty much low carb is key no matter how much caloric deficit you’re in. Eat your carbs at 12-2pm and salad at 6pm. Eat whatever you want just keep it at a lower number at 80 or 100g.
