Today, we’re going to talk about the carbohydrate that’s more dangerous than sugar: maltodextrin.

Of all the ultra-processed food ingredients, I consider this one the worst.

Maltodextrin is GMO, refined, and highly processed. It can lead to belly fat, diabetes, and gut inflammation, yet it’s considered safe.

Even though maltodextrin is not a sugar and it’s not sweet, it behaves like sugar in the body. It’s also higher than sugar on the glycemic index.

Maltodextrin is an ingredient in many different products, from chips to seasonings, supplements, and infant formulas. It’s even in certain drinks like light beer, energy drinks, and sports drinks.

Because it’s not classified as a sugar, maltodextrin can also be added to sugar-free products even though it behaves like a sugar.

Maltodextrin is a filler ingredient, and there are loopholes that companies can use to legally add it to their products.

Other names for maltodextrin are dextrin, modified food starch, glucose syrup, corn starch, food starch, and corn syrup.

It’s crucial to start reading the ingredients in your products to avoid dangerous ingredients like maltodextrin.

  2. Thank you Dr Berg. I get severe headaches and anxiety after eating it. For a decade, no doctor has diagnosed my migraines and nerve pain for food poisoning aka modern wheat, food additives(msg), sugar etc.. I have constantly suffered until I started to cut down and cut completely of these poisons. The medical doctors are corrupt in terms of really helping patients live a long and healthy life

    • @@ML-bf8gl very mild nowadays since I cut down sugar, wheat, msg and the Es (EU standard for food additives). I get mild ones because of my occasional overeating habits due to work stress. The headaches quickly go away after I fast for 3 days with two small meals a day.

    • @@Ninah12345 thanks. Headaches come in different forms. Each form indicates different lacks or overloads of nutrients or poisons in the body and mind.

    • But all the huge food conglomerates ARE criminals (organized crime cartel). They never have our best interests in mind, just theirs (& whatever marketing spin they need to sell it to you).

    • It IS “diabolically criminal” because the BIG AG Companies making these “non-food products” ARE DECEPTIVELY & FRAUDULENTLY LABELING the “food” as “safe” when they CERTIFIABLY KNOW that certain “ingredients” are NOT “safe.”

      Furthermore, BIG AG & BIG PHARMA are “in bed” together mutually causing serious harm to millions of people.

      Unfortunately, too many peoples’ minds are so severely “affected” by the mind-altering programming of “television and pharmaceutically controlled commercials” as well as the city water sources being clandestinely contaminated with the nasty neurotoxin “Fluoride,” that they are no longer capable of using their brains for “critical thinking” or “deductive reasoning,” therefore, literally rendering them impotent and incapable of “acting to defend and protect” themselves or their loved ones.

  4. I can’t believe i was actually eating a product with this ingredient in it while watching this video – I could hardly read the small print but it was there. By the way Thank you Dr Berg ,I’ve been following your keto diet and intermittent fasting for 2 months – I’ve lost 22 lbs. I’ve always also eaten sugary products ever since I was a baby. I went cold turkey on sugar – feeling absolutely awesome

  5. Wow…I can’t believe it. thank you Dr. Berg. Can you please come up with a list of ingredients that are deadly like sugar, so we can go to grocery and check and avoid buying stuffs have them in? There are so many names for these deadly ingredients that I just learned in this video.

  7. The US food industry is killing us. One of my past coworkers worked overseas. He was in South America for about 3 years. He shopped at small farmers’ markets and ate fresh foods. He reported feeling so good but didn’t connect it to diet until he returned to the US. After returning, he was sick. His digestive system was messed up. He thought it was something he caught while out of the country. He finally went to an internal specialist, and they explained that while out of the country and not eating process food, his body went through a cleanse. All the toxins and inflammations were gone. Thank you for educating us.

    • I talk to everyone that I can about Dr Berg as well. He literally saved my life and I can’t keep it to myself. I’ve lost 93 pounds in 7 months and I feel great, have lost all my cravings and most importantly I’m never really hungry. Dr Berg said it would happen and I had my serious doubts,but IT WAS ABSOLUTELY TRUE! DR BERG WAS RIGHT! HE IS MY LIVING HERO…💥

  10. After a 5k I ran the other day, they passed out samples of a “healthy” instant latte. When I read that it had maltodextrin, I thought I shouldn’t drink it but I did anyways. I felt like I had a hangover. Now that I know just how bad it really is, I will definitely steer clear of it. Thank you!👍

  11. Recently at the store, found Maltodextrin in sausages and ground sausage meat. Also found a drink in the “health food section” that was labelled sugar free and it contained …….sugar in the ingredients.

  12. A year ago, I found your page, when I was getting sicker and sicker, to the point I was at the hospital waiting room trying to get help. In the time since finding you, I have fully turned my health back around. Yup, it was sugar and carbs, Hardcore insulin resistance, I was having severe edema in my legs and feet, I was deep in trouble. Since learning so much from you, I am about 80% back to normal, getting better by the day it feels like. Thanks so much Dr Berg, I wasnt anywhere near ready to be in that condition, fingers crossed I can push it all the way back to normal in another year.

  13. I’ve been carnivore for about 5 months and am feeding my family mostly whole foods and no sugar. It’s amazing how much smaller my groceries are in the cart now without the boxes of processed foods. Thanks for caring, Dr. Berg.

  14. Thank you so much, Dr Berg! Your detail is appreciated. I just wanted to mention that over the years, I’ve come to notice that many foods labels that I’ve read were initially free of these sugar substitutes, are now showing up in products. So, constantly reading the labels is imperative.

  16. Ugh.. I really am sick of how much our system allows things to be put in our products that we CONSUME. Even if they aren’t killers, they are slow killers. There’s a whole list of things that we (big food corporations) put in our food that are illegal in Europe and Australia which says A LOT. Thank you for sharing this Dr. Berg
