In this video, we’re going to take a look at edible bugs as an alternative protein source. Some say that we should be eating bugs by 2050 because of the growing population. Some blame climate change or claim that beef is not sustainable and that we need to find other sources of food.

One hundred grams of bugs contains about 12 grams of protein, 5 grams of fat, and 5 grams of carbs. If we were to eat insects as food, we’d need to eat 4x to 8x this amount to get enough protein! It could become quite expensive to consume this many bugs each day.

The cost of edible insects could be lowered by lowering the quality of what they’re fed, but then the bugs will be less nutritious with less protein. Eating insects would also require people to give up their cultural and traditional foods which is not likely.

When you compare bugs to beef, insects do not come close in terms of protein or nutritional value.

Insects also carry pathogens. A 2019 study evaluated several cricket farms that were developing edible insects. Around 81% of the crickets had parasites and 30% were potentially pathogenic. There's also a higher incidence of worms, viruses, bacteria, and fungus in crickets.

If you have an allergy to shellfish, you may also have an allergy to edible insects because they contain a similar protein.

Bugs have an exoskeleton mainly composed of chitin which is an antinutrient and can not be digested by our microbiome. Chitin also blocks vitamins A and E.

  1. What I’ve never understood about the logic behind eating bugs is that chickens already eat bugs. People should eat more chicken if they truly believe cattle are harming the environment. There’s no reason to start eating bugs.

  2. I’m very happy to see the amount of red pilled people that are woke in the common sense way in the comments here. There is hope! ❤

  3. Many insects are deadly for people with crustacean shellfish allergies. So, one more reason insects are a “no” for us.

    • 💯 agree. Here’s what I just commented:
People who are allergic to shellfish etc are also allergic to zeebugz. But all we hear are crickets 🦗 on the matter (pun intended)

    • They already know this fact. So there us no other reason to promote toxic food other than to incrementally delete and sicken many people. While making profits from pharmaceuticals therapies.

  4. I feel bad for the new generation, I might be gone by then…May God have mercy on us, and protect us all. Thank you Dr. Berg for your wonderful work, I’m alwys learning with you and improving my health. Thank you!!

  5. This video needs to be shown to every everyone all over the world. So much accurate information. Dr. Berg just crushed the whole argument that the WEF pushes. Thank you Dr. Berg!!

  6. Don’t worry, those food companies will make them highly delectable and unhealthy like 82% of the foods they manufacture nowadays.

  7. The people who want us to eat bugs to save the planet; flew private jet to eat wagyu steak, before getting on stage to tell the little people to make sacrifices…

The level of contempt they hold for the people who enable their luxurious lifestyle.

    • Climate scientists want you to eat steak. Forbes broadcasted a hearing of the “House & Transportation Committee” having absolutely no clue on how much CO2 there is in the atmosphere. The committee guessed between 5% and 8%. Scientists and experts in the field enlightened the committee that the level of CO2 in the atmosphere is in fact 0.04%, up from 0.01% from 30 years ago. Experts also concluded that if the CO2 levels drop below 0.02% plant life begins to die. This data proves that we are far closer to killing plant life than we are killing ourselves. Save a tree, eat a cow.

  8. The super rich want the rest of us to eat bugs while they enjoy their premium steaks and $1000 bottles of wine.

  9. Chitin is literally the killer, especially if it is the volume we are expected to eat to maintain our current level of health.

  10. The WEF wants to force us to eat bugs. Nope! That’s why our farmers are crucial and we must support them!

  11. The main problem I have with eating insects is that you are generally consuming the entire creature, including its gut microbiome. When you are eating a bowl of these things, their combined gut matter can add up, leading to potential diseases. Remember, when we eat shrimp, we clean the backs for a reason.

  12. Thank you for doing this video! I will never knowingly eat bugs. My husband and I are working to eat better and are gardening/canning and you have helped us immensely. God bless you.
