DATA:

0:00 Introduction: Does fasting cause cardiovascular problems?
1:09 Poor data on intermittent fasting
2:36 Peer-reviewed studies supporting intermittent fasting
4:26 Fasting does not increase cardiovascular risk

Today, we’re going to talk about some of the recent news headlines claiming that fasting can wreak havoc on your cardiovascular system. This information was taken from an abstract (short summary) of an observational study sponsored by the American Heart Association.

The study was based on a 24-hour dietary recall, where participants had to recall everything they ate over a period of time. The author has also conducted observational studies that directly opposed red meat, eggs, and cholesterol.

Credible, peer-reviewed studies have shown numerous benefits of intermittent fasting and show that intermittent fasting actually supports cardiovascular health.

1. A single-blind randomized study examined the long-term effects of time-restricted eating with resistance training over 12 months. Participants saw a significant decrease in body mass, fat mass, and inflammation.

They experienced increased insulin sensitivity and a more balanced lipid profile without adverse effects. Intermittent fasting was deemed safe and effective for improving cardiovascular function.

2. A non-randomized controlled clinical trial for time-restricted feeding and its effect on body composition and cardiovascular risk found that 18 hours of fasting significantly decreased waist circumference and cardiovascular risk.

3. A systematic review of intermittent fasting with cardiometabolic risk factors looked at four randomized controlled trials. The results demonstrated that intermittent fasting significantly reduced body weight, waist circumference, body mass, fat mass, blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, and fasting insulin levels.

4. One study evaluated a 16-hour fasting eating pattern with an 8-hour eating window on breast cancer survivors for 8 weeks. Results demonstrated a significant decrease in cardiovascular risk.

  1. I don’t care what they say. My facts speak for themselves! 10kg lost, blood sugar lowered, cholesterol lowered, heart health improved and have a perfectly healthy liver when last year I had fatty liver. My doctor thinks it’s the meds, which I haven’t been taking. All down to IF. Thanks Dr Berg!

  2. I’ve been fasting for almost 2 months, and lost 13 pounds, my blood pressure is normal normal, and i was able to lower my glucose. I’m winning 🎉

    • @@FoodieVacations I’ve been intermittent fasting for over 2 years now – 16/8 – with only sporadic walking in the spring/summer months, and have lost about 40 lbs, lower blood pressure, an increase in that “inner glow” that people actually see and tell me about – LOL- , look and feel better than ever. The paid-off AHA can go flog themselves!

  3. Big pharma board meeting, “People are getting healthy by simply not eating frequently! How do we fix this?”, “Let’s put out a “study” that tells them to eat more often or die!”
It came out in the local news too. Thank you so much for debunking the misinformation.

  4. I still hear “Fasting will put your body in a starvation mode, and when you eat again it will store it all as fat.” Strange that fasting made me leaner than ever.

  5. I heard this on the radio the other day and laughed hysterically, I have 3 family members who have lost lots of weight and feel amazing. I also lost a lot of weight and feel better.

  6. I didn’t believe that from the beginning … I been intermittent fasting for years and my Dr. checks my Heart every 3 months … No problems here ❤🎉🎉🎉

  7. I love the fact that what I came here to say, had already been said multiple times! Love seeing people waking up against the elitist owned media, corporations, government, etc.

  8. I recently went to the cancer wing of a major hospital and I was completely blown away by how busy they were. It was standing room only. An entire wing of a hospital dedicated to just cancer. It made me realize just how profitable cancer and cardiology is to hospitals and big pharma. If we took better care of ourselves through nutrition and exercise an entire industry would collapse.

    • Right, but whose fault is that? They might be benefitting from our bad choices, but they’re not the ones making them.

    • @@Charliehund100I agree eating healthy or unhealthy is completely a choice. But when they’re spraying crops and making it harder to get organic food. It does make it harder than it needs to be. Also some people are blind to the unhealthy things until they realize which took me about 18 years to do it could’ve been prevented earlier on if they taught us real eastern health as kids.

    • Google the Schar Cancer Institute in Fairfax VA & prepare to be more blown away. Scroll down to all the specific cancers they treat.

  9. Started Intermittent fasting, I’m over 60, no drugs, not that much exercise lite walking, lost 20 lbs, no depression gone, brain fog gone, thanks Dr.Berg feel 1000% better for the last 4 years. . .

  10. There’s so many holes you can poke in that study.
I do 20 hours of fasting. I’ve never felt better. I’m off all my high blood pressure medicines and my staten.
I’ve lost 40 lbs now. My doctor has never been more happy for me and impressed with my blood work.

  11. Fasting between 16:8 and OMAD for the last 3 months with a mostly high protein diet with veggies and only healthy carbs in moderate amounts. Blood pressure down, energy up, mental clarity, and almost 30 pounds lost. Looking to lose another 40 to hit my target weight. Thank you Dr. for all the info you have provided and shining a light on what is really going with Food Companies, Main Stream Media, etc. For those who say it is impossible to do weight loss the natural way, it is possible. It can be done!!!!

    • @@mmmd3429 At the same time, it’s both the easiest thing in the world and the hardest thing in the world Lol because all it really is just a numbers game (calories in/out) and what you put into your body. The toughest part is not giving into temptations and old habits. Fasting, while hard at first, suppresses those nasty appetites in the long run and you can feel your body repairing itself.

    • @@olivergruna7762 That’s pretty much what it comes down to. Develop good habits and maintain the discipline when motivation is absent.

  12. I have been doing IF for about 8 years now and watched many of your great videos. Currently at 151 pounds and am sure without doing this and improving my diet and exercising more would be close to 200 pounds. And would have all sorts of health issues now! Some family members have also told me “you don’t need to fast to lose weight!” I really wish they would watch some of your videos! Please keep up your extraordinary and fantastic work!! ❤❤

  13. I’ve been doing intermittent fasting for well over a year now, – it’s hard to overstate just how much better I feel, mentally & physically. When that autophagy kicks in, I feel like I’m operating on an entirely different level.

  14. IM DOOMED !!!!! Ive been eating only ONE meal per day for the past 50 years. When I get the pangs of hunger, I ‘nibble’. Most of my relatives who did the same only lived to their late 90s.
