2:30 What supplements to take as you age

Today, I’m going to tell you about the best and the worst supplements to take as you age.

Let’s start with iron supplements. Our bodies do not have a good way of eliminating excess iron, which can damage the liver. Too much iron can increase your risk of infection and also deplete zinc. Donating blood can help eliminate excess iron.

If you have anemia, the best sources of iron are red meat, liver, grass-fed liver pills, or spleen extract.

Many people consume too much calcium, which can build up in the arteries and kidneys.

Synthetic vitamin A can cause damage to the liver, osteoporosis, and increased intracranial pressure.

Best vitamins to take as you age:
1. Vitamin C
2. Vitamin B3
3. Magnesium
4. Vitamin D
5. Vitamin K1
6. Vitamin K2

While most synthetic vitamins should be avoided, synthetic vitamin C can be beneficial under certain circumstances.

  1. VITAMIN X 😂 I PROMISE I CAN’T STAND IT WHATSOEVER. 💯 Thanks, Dr. Berg! Have a wonderful day, everyone! 🙂

    • @@ulflyng4072 He said you expected to see sodium on the avoid list but it’s not because you need it for energy as you age. Following on from that let’s look at what you need to take more of: Vitamin C, D, B3, K1&K2. So is he saying you need to take more sodium or just that it is not on the avoid list because you need it i.e carry on as normal with that. Don’t take more of it or avoid it???❓❓❓🤷🤷‍♂🤷‍♀🤷🤷‍♂🤷‍♀

  2. Thankyou once again, Dr. Berg.
Your advice is always welcome, & you have helped me (& clearly many many others) change my life for the better.

  3. This information is perfect timing today. I am 53, my mother is 73. She fell & broke a hip May 27, had to have hip replacement. We are BOTH lacking in all of the vitamins you listed as being essential as we age. THANK YOU Dr Berg, we appreciate you!!! 😊

    • I don’t want to be morbid but be aware that the 18 month mortality rate for women over 65 who break a hip is dismally high. Pay careful attention to your mother’s health from now on. Be hyper alert for illnesses and increase all the healthy lifestyle diet and habits.

  4. In the discussion of Vitamin D3 supplementation and hypercalcemia, you forgot to mention pairing with vitamin MK7. The MK7 diverts the calcium away from blood vessels and sends it to the teeth and bones where it belongs

    MK7 is a bioavailable form of K2.

    I take 10,000 IU D3; 200 mcg MK7

  5. I remember when “over 50” sounded so far away. Now here I am, taking in all the info 😄 Thank you!

  6. Thank you Dr Berg. This is very helpful. I stopped taking iron tablets years ago for the reasons mentioned and I am over 60

  7. I LOVE the people that always post a quick overview of the video! Thank you so much! It makes it easier on us. 😊

  8. I’m 61 and living in sunny Florida. I spend 45 mins a day out in the sun riding a bike. I’m good on Vitamin D. That’s what i recommend!

    • @@Drbergwe all love you, Dr. Berg. You’re literally the only Dr I see now. I agree with the above post…none of us got you as a Dr…in fact just the opposite. That’s why some of us quit going to drs altogether.

  9. I take 45000 of vitd3 in winter in Canada. This stopped my hot flashes and made me calmer.

  10. I live up north where we get little sun in the winter so I take 15,000 iu of D3 all year. My holistic MD agrees with all of this – the ‘do takes’ and the ‘don’t takes’. Dr. Berg is the BEST. I don’t take niacin now though so I’ll ask at my next appt. and probably start taking it. I’m 75 now, I take no meds and I do that same aerobic workouts I did when I was 30 and lift [almost] the same amount of weights. And I thank God each day that I can do all this. All in all, I owe it to Him.

  11. I am over 50 & stopped taking supplements around 8 years ago, best thing i ever did. After the last 4 years i would not trust pharmaceutical companies as far as i could throw them. I obtain all my vitamins & minerals from the food i eat & i have never felt better.

  12. Three years ago my doctor told me I was dangerously low in vitamin D and warned me that I could be susceptible to cancer. I started taking a D Supplement but just a few months later I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer,. I did the surgery and radiation so I’m good now, hopefully. Now I tell everyone that will listen to PLEASE take your Vitamin D & K.

    • Last year I was so low, 15ng. I felt awful. I took a strong pill, 1 every week for 2 months. It helped tremendously. Symptoms got better fast!

Sorry you went through what you did. That’s hard.😢

  13. Eat healthy, exercise, take vitamin tabs, take one spoon of extra virgin olive oil and apple cider vinegar, drink matcha green tea and sleep well … That’s what I’ve done and just celebrated my 90th birthday lately. 😊

  14. High protein, low carbs, walk a lot, lift weights , eat animal fats and get some sunshine. Only drink spirits with soda water. Rest a lot.
I’m 60 and in the best condition of my life since I turned 40.
Oh, last thing, ignore all health advice from the government. This is probably the most important.
