Today, I’m going to tell you about 7 foods to avoid, along with some healthy alternatives.

1. Liquid sugar
Soda, juice, and high-sugar beverages deplete your body's vitamin and mineral reserves and contribute to insulin resistance. If you like soda, try Zevia zero-sugar soda instead!

2. Processed cheese
Pasteurized cheese products can’t be called cheese if they contain less than 51% cheese. Processed cheeses typically contain skim milk, canola oil, milk protein concentrate, modified food starch, whey protein, maltodextrin, preservatives, and salt. Choose real cheese instead!

3. Protein bars
Many protein bars are worse than candy bars! They’re often made with soy protein isolates and casein, and can contain 30 to 47 grams of sugar per bar! This number doesn’t include the starches, which are also sugar.

Protein bars are usually sweetened with highly processed sweeteners such as rice syrup, corn syrup, and tapioca syrup. Some are sweetened with sucralose, an artificial sweetener made from a chlorine compound.

Try boiled eggs, cheese, and meat jerky for quick protein.

4. Seed oil mayonaise
Almost every mayo available lists soy oil as its first ingredient. Soy oil is a seed oil that’s highly processed using solvents like hexane. It’s high in omega-6s, which can be highly inflammatory. Look for mayo that is made with avocado oil and zero seed oils. Chosen Foods mayo and Primal Kitchen mayo are much better options.

5. Sweetened, flavored yogurt
Seventy percent of the yogurt people buy is sweetened, flavored yogurt. This yogurt contains more sugar per ounce than ice cream! It also contains artificial colorings and flavorings.

Opt for plain whole-fat grass-fed yogurt from A2 protein cows. For an even better option, try whole-fat kefir from grass-fed cows, sheep, or goats.

6. Soy protein
Soy protein is a cheap, heavily processed protein found in many foods. It negatively affects your gut and liver. Opt for whole protein sources such as meat, eggs, fish, and seafood.

7. Modified starches
Starches are chains of sugars, often used as fillers. Starches cause a more significant spike in blood sugar than sugar! Consume natural starch from butternut squash, beets, plantains, and purple potatoes.

    • I’m 100% convinced that my leakygut came from the excessive seed oils I ingested thru heavy mayo dips-sauces, salad dressings on my huge constant salad dinners and all the desserts & carbs I ate with these oils over the span of 30yrs. I also include the “not 100%” olive oils that are oxidized.

    • Pasteurized cheese product- code for processed cheese like velveeeta. Actual pasteurized cheese is different. Watch the segment and learn to tell the difference.

    • He is not that important. The point is simple. Just do not eat anything that is not available a thousand year ago. There were no pigs feed on antibiotics or hormones.

You researched and presented to the public some of the very important medical/health research and the conclusions that the healthcare/drug industry tries to hide.   4. I try to always eat clean Keto. Most days I’m on track, but when high stress gets the best of me, and convenience food wants to take over, Dr. Berg helps re-inspire me! I needed this today. Thank you! 💜

    • That is next level right there! even I have not yet gotten there but it’s my goal. I have 10 years of professional cooking experience and even though we’ve graduated beyond batch cooking with components we already batch cooked (homemade marinara into turkey bolo, none of it from a jar) it’s a stretch for me to go label-free because shopping is fun and I don’t get out much except for shopping. I get more steps in at Costco than the average day. I know I’ve got to change that. We make our own sourdough, buckwheat rolls, sauerkraut, kefir and yogurt with organic A2 milk. We make our own sauces, usually building them in the pan with spices, the fats rendering from the meat, homemade stocks, sometimes coconut cream, milk or heavy cream. Going bit by bit it has taken a long time to deprogram from the Saturday morning snack and cereal ads I absorbed along with everyone else in America. Our brains were hijacked by stuff that ISN’T FOOD. I read “Diet for a New America” when I was 15 and I began to wake up. Over 30 years later, I’m still trying to shake off the spell marketeers cast over me and most of the rest of us.

    • I lost 20 lbs and have the most every I’ve ever had. Isnt it funny how for 20+ yrs no Medical doctor to do this?

    • Only after 3 weeks of intermittent fasting on a low carb diet, avoiding as much processed food and seed oils, I was able to get rid of my irregular heartbeat, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and brain fog I developed since I had Covid 3 years ago 😊

    • I never knew following someone could do all that. I need to start following Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos so my account balance will increase.

    1. Never knew this about “concentrate.” No more for me.
    2. I used olive oil mayonnaise thinking it was good. No more for me. I did check, and as Dr. Berg said it does contain other oils. How sneaky is that!
    3. Protein bars- shocking for a supposedly “healthy” snack.
    4.Flavored yogurt- never knew. Scrap that from my list.
    My grocery shopping is taking longer. But it’s worth it.
    Unfortunately for me when I remain in air-conditioned buildings longer than 90 mins I get terrible body pains.

    • I love what you shared. Taking some time to read the labels is eye opening. Once you’ve read them, you won’t have to spend so much time reading them again. You can check out all kinds of food labels online to spare yourself long icy grocery store visits! Brrr! SOME of the old ways are the best ways, like buying fresh produce and whole cuts of meat with the bone in. Using lots of spices, building flavor in your slow-cooker. Our grandmothers knew what’s what with slow food! Or, in my case, my great-grandmother 😅

  9. My health started to deteriorate some 25 years ago. Age my doctor said. Some 15 years I go I was diagnosed with Diabetes 2. Take these pills, my doctor said.
    Then take more pills, he said. In the mean time I was eating nachos dipped in melted velveta fake cheese. Then 15 month ago I got numb toes, my doctor prescribed me Xanax, this will make you feel better, he said.
    I went home, never filled the prescription and started educating myself. I learned, that all my life, the food industry is trying to kill me. Of course they must know their products are dangerous to my health. I knew all my life about the dangers of cigarettes and alcohol, but not about the dangers of Trans-Fat, Seed-Oils, Fructose, refined carbohydrates e.t.c.
    And the entire healthcare industry is complicit with the food industry, because NO DOCTOR EVER told me that these foods will kill me.

    • FDA-food AND drug administration. Linked for a reason….and they both help each other profit …full circle.

    • Information about the negative effects of the foods and the ingredients in them have been been in the the news for over 40 years. Stop being dramatic. You ate what you wanted to eat. Doctors are not nutritionists.

  10. In Bulgaria we don’t use the word “yoghurt” – we call this product sour milk. Btw, lactobacillus bulgaricus is way more healthy than Lactobacillus kefiranofaciens 🙂 The history of kefir is strangely connected to Bulgaria (Balkaria) as well 🙂

  13. Basically, people SHOULD NOT eat anything with a label listing ingredients. It’s very simple. I follow this approach successfully 🥰🥰🥰

    • That’s a great goal! Successful change tends to be incremental. If someone is starting with Doritos, just switching to unflavored tortilla chips is a big change. They’re not eating maltodextrin or modified food starch anymore. The next step would be only organic chips, then organic chips cooked in clean oils. Maybe around this time starting to make their OWN chips in an air fryer. All this time, they could also be changing their dips according to their needs, from Velveeta to queso in a jar to homemade queso to homemade cashew cream… or switching to guac and fresh salsas and leaving out the heavy dips. Bit by bit, ANYONE can eventually get there if they keep going.
