Rockstar energy drinks contain 16 teaspoons of synthetic industrial sugar, which is terrible for your liver. Monster energy drinks contain 14 ½ teaspoons of sugar, and Nos energy drinks have 13 ½ teaspoons. All three of these energy drinks have more sugar than Coca-Cola, paired with 160 mg of caffeine.

Gatorade and Powerade also contain more sugar than Coca-Cola. Celsius energy drinks don't contain sugar, but contain sucralose, which causes similar damage in the body. They also contain a whopping 270 mg of caffeine!

Sugar combined with caffeine creates a ticking time bomb in the body. If you have low blood sugar, sugar will give you a temporary mental boost in energy, followed by a crash. Symptoms of low blood sugar include irritability, brain fog, weakness, and fatigue, but you wouldn’t have low blood sugar if you didn’t consume sugar in the first place.

Real energy in the body comes from the mitochondria in the form of ATP. The food you eat is converted into energy with the help of important cofactors such as B vitamins, CoQ10, magnesium, iron, sulfur, and lipoic acid. Sugar from energy drinks contains no cofactors, so you deplete your nutrient reserves when you consume them.

Caffeine doesn’t give you energy—it blocks the chemical compound that makes you sleepy. The problem with energy drinks is that they contain too much caffeine.

Too much caffeine increases adrenaline, which increases your heart rate, blood pressure, and cardiovascular stress. Caffeine is a diuretic, so it can cause dehydration. It can also cause adrenal fatigue and sleep problems over time.

The better solution is to correct the diet for sustained energy. Proper nutrition, electrolytes, and salt should give you plenty of energy.

  2. This is very important information. I’ve always regarded these drinks as incredibly harmful to your health but most people don’t have a clue. These latest videos on all these harmful foods is fantastic work.

  3. So many people are addicted to those energy drinks and coffee. Sugar is equivalent to crack, I see why people are addicted.

  4. It’s crazy how they can market a diet drink as being better for you than a regular drink but the amount of crap they add to it it’s actually worse for you.

    • I use Celtic salt for electrolytes..
      instead of Gatorade now

      I didn’t know, I was low on potassium
      I put a little on my tongue, then drink water
      Even the potassium, seems to cancel effects of sodium.

      My blood pressure went from 135/87 to 126/79
      Sometimes
      120/80
      I’m 65 ☺️

  6. All of those lead causes: acne, skin breaks out, ingrown hair, insomnia, diabetes, stress, headaches, moody, liver issue and more. I drink my own matcha green tea with fresh fruit smoothie or plain hot drink with no sugar added, my skin has improve better.

    • Ive been drinking either 1 Celsius or 1 ghost energy drink everyday for the past 3 years and I literally don’t get any of those symptoms.
      I also eat well, get 7 hours of sleep, do intermittent fasting and weightlift/ run

  8. In my 30s after drinking a large amount of Gatorade, I was walking around San Antonio SeaWorld in August at noon and my body just collapsed. I WAS USED TO HOT SUMMER DAYS, but because of the Gatorade I couldn’t move around. Totally lost all strength. Had to sit in the shade and drink lots of water. It might have been all the salt in Gatorade. I don’t know. But I haven’t drank any of that trash at all since then.

    • I had the same thing happen to me after walking 18 holes and playing golf in the Georgia heat. I chugged a bottle of Gatorade and was ill for two days. It’s water only for me since then.

  9. I was having one bottle of cola, one energy drink and two-three expresso daily and was eating only carbs and sugar. This was for many years before I started healthy KETO and FASTING. I came off all that stuff changing my diet completely and have incredibly huge amount of energy. No way to give up KETO & FASTING. Thank you dr.Berg for helping to have a good health!❤

  11. My granddaughters 10 oz “orange juice” had 47 grams of sugar. She weighs 47 pounds. This is unbelievable what big food is doing to America.

    • Fruit juice is loaded with sugar, and should be consumed in moderation with a complete meal.
      You’re better off eating a serving of whole fruit instead.

    • Americans would be doing so much better with one simple rule, only drink water. Nothing else unless you want to add some lemon or something. Zero need for the rest of the crap people drink.
