  1. Great topic. Dog food places such a big role in how our 16 year old shitzu has lived we used farmers dog. Pricey but seems to work

  2. I have a 25 year old cat! Haven’t been able to get her on the treadmill, but she doesn’t eat much. World champion mouser though. The vet says she is in perfect health. (We are now living in a 5th floor apartment and gets taken on walks to the park – with a harness. Remarkably, I’m still alive in spite of that)

  3. BARF !

Ask yourself exactly why almost all “pet food” is brown in colour and the first ingredient used is “poultry protein” !!!!!

  4. My mastiff Brutus lived approximaty 13 yes old. I had him on 2 meals when he was younger, then 1 day or OMAD. An English mastiff.
He was a lean 180, so he wasn’t undersized, just I kept him lean like me. I know how a large Boylan be impacted with weightlifting being 6’5 320 lbs, I cam identify what an excess weight does tp the body. Lol good luck and it will allow your pup to live longer!
Yes my Brutus ate alott of whole real food and 25% high quality kibble.

  5. Siim Land, in your previous video you forgot to mention that green tea should be brewed in temperatures not higher than 80 degree centigrade.

  6. My 75 pound collie lived to age 16 and perhaps would have lived longer, but he had a steel hip from being hit by a car as a puppy. When his hind legs started giving out due to that hip, my mother had him put down (without consulting anyone else in the family). He had been fed Purina dog chow once a day, plus some table scraps. But that was during the 1970s and 1980s, when pet food was far less toxic than it is now. We also only gave him one vaccine as a puppy for rabies, and no others.

  7. Years ago the oldest dog in the Guinness book of world records was a vegan border collie named Bramble who swam regularly. She lived to 27.

  8. I love this! Will you also do studies on cats and bunnies? My bunny is three years old and I would love to have more evidence based info.

  9. My golden retriever is 11, best pet ever and he now has a nose tumor that’s spreading. I have tried everything under the sun to help him. Would love to know if there is any holistic approach that might help since all the vets here just tell me there really isn’t much that can be done because he is 11. I’m doing the calorie restriction and he has lost weight but it hasn’t helped the tumor and I’ve also changed him to frozen food which is very expensive, but I think it has contributed to him still living 5 months after diagnosis. I’m going to start adding gelatin powder and psyllium husk with his turkey tail and I already give him omega 3 plus small amounts of minerals. I break my supplement capsules and pour them into his food.

  10. It’s fascinating to see how research on calorie restriction and diet quality can be applied to our furry friends.

I wanted to add a couple of points that might enhance the conversation around canine longevity:

    1. Time-Restricted Eating: You touched on time-restricted eating at 08:16, which is a great approach not just for humans but also for dogs. Implementing a feeding schedule that aligns with their natural eating patterns can help regulate their metabolism and improve overall health.

    2. Glycine and Methionine: The discussion on glycine and methionine at 09:25 is particularly intriguing. These amino acids play crucial roles in various bodily functions, including inflammation and muscle repair. Ensuring a balanced intake of these nutrients can support not only longevity but also the quality of life for dogs as they age.

    3. Holistic Approach: Lastly, I believe a holistic approach that includes mental stimulation and regular exercise is vital for a dog’s longevity. Engaging activities can reduce stress and promote a healthier lifestyle, which complements dietary efforts.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and encouraging dog owners to think critically about their pets’ health! Looking forward to more content like this.

  11. I really appreciate your evidence-based and non-dogmatic review of the vegan literature. It is definitely at it’s beginning stages and you covered it very well and acknowledged the real weakness without resorting to anti-science & dogmatic rhetoric. Keep up the great work!

  12. I had a German Shepard male that lived for 16 years. His diet was regular dog food, 1 cup twice a day for most of his life. He never got human food. He maintained a healthy weight without a problem. The vet said he lived beyond 98% of his peers.
