Please join me in welcoming Dr. Catherine Shanahan, author of “Dark Calories”. Dr. Shanahan graduated from medical school in 1994. She explains that doctors only learn a limited amount of information about nutrition.

Her book “Dark Calories” explains that addressing the root cause of health problems can improve chronic health conditions.

Seed oils are problematic because they initiate the formation of toxins. Seed oils are also rancid, and their rancidity often goes undetected. They are unstable fatty acids that have been refined, bleached, deodorized, and lack any nutritional value whatsoever.

Seed oils are made with heat and pressure. Through the manufacturing process, toxins continue to develop, multiply, and change. Cooking and reheating with these toxic oils creates more toxins.

Seed oils cause oxidation and free radicals, both of which destroy our cellular membranes and cellular health.

The good news about seed oils is that removing them from your diet is one of the most powerful things you can do for your health.

Dr. Shanahan explains that she knew there was a problem after seeing children with more health problems than their great-grandparents. She then diligently researched what could be causing these health problems: the answer was seed oils.

Omega-6 polyunsaturated fats from seed oils can significantly damage the mitochondria and are also stored in fat cells. Seed oil consumption is at the root of obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic diseases.

Dr. Shanahan recommends olive oil, butter, coconut oil, peanut oil, and sesame oil as alternatives to seed oils.

  1. I started to cut out seed oils about a year ago. I’m now only using avocado coconut or olive oil only. And it has definitely helped me

    • @@__WJK__ lol… I reread that too, and thought the same reply, seeing as neither sides fit a soul-centered man!

    • Yes, and I hope RFK Jr will be confirmed as secretary of HHS. We need to get this crap out of circulation!

    • He’s very ignorant on some health fronts. That’s because he looks at diet and nutrition in an isolated manner, not as a whole, the way the body actually functions.
The only thing he will be remembered for is his sincerity in helping people, which is what he is. But not his actual knowledge.

  2. I bought canola oil to use in my daily cooking for 2 weeks a few months ago in order to cut costs. I was lethargic, perpetually dehydrated and my skin had major acne. ONLY TWO WEEKS.

I switched back to avocado oil now and am back to normal.

  3. I threw out all my seed oils several years ago. I only cook with butter, single source glass bottle olive oil and grass feed beef tallow.

  4. One thing I’ve noticed is that when I bake at home I NEVER feel bad or tired after eating it. I don’t bake often because I don’t want to get fat, but I’ve always used real butter and high quality ingredients simply because if you’re going to bake, do it right. I really believe that all of those weird chemicals and oils and sugar substitutes in store-bought items are a big part of the problem, and not just the sugar and flour.

    • The problem is eating junk. It is as simple as that. Don’t overthink this. If you eat more calories than your body needs, you will gain weight.

Stop eating fast food and stop drinking sugary drinks is a good start. Basically, stop eating nutritionally deficient food. Make sure the food you are eating is whole. Whole grain bread instead of white bread, water or hot tea instead of soda, apple slices instead of apple juice, etc.

    • Ahh, but when you try my apple pie, one slice just leads to another, can hardly stop munching 5-6 slices per day. I had to stop baking, the pastry was so light, rich and biscuity and the apples were done to perfection with careful spices and lemon but that disguised the mass of icing sugar & demerara and wheatflour. – Was a grand life till one day I couldn’t walk properly and the legs became swollen – The belly and neck quickly became obese beyond recognition.
Something had to change for the better 😉

  5. One french fry equals one cigarette is EXACTLY the visual needed to close down fast food outlets for good.
Spread the message and start home cooking.

    • I have gotten a very good french fry from the air fryer with no added fat at all. I am almost certain fast food mega corporations can achieve good fries with today’s technology.

“I have gotten a very good french fry from the air fryer with no added fat at all”

You’re using an air fryer to make French fries?
      You’re cheating!
      🤣😂🤣

  6. I feel best when I eat Beef, eggs, grass-fed butter, (cauliflour, broccoli only couple days a week) redmonds salt… all my arthritis gone!! My Snoring stopped… my gums got healthy and sensitive teeth gone. Hair and nails got healthy. Lost my extra fat… it completely changed my life ❤

  7. I always love seeing Dr. Catherine Shanahan getting interviewed! I also am happy to see Dr. Berg give her the credit she deserves in being a pioneer on the topic of seed oils.

    • She doesn’t deserve credit – She doesn’t make the distinction enough between highly processed seed oils and non highly processes seed oils.
Many seed oils have been used for great benefit to health and especially for detoxing. This has been known for hundreds of years and practiced as such for as long.
She is only focused on one side of the coin.

  8. Love these two!!!! At time of posting there was 119 down votes? Must be the seed oil company CEO’s, because who would give this phenomenal information a thumbs down?

  9. I’ve been on a ketovore diet for the last 6 years. I’ve lost about 50 lbs over the first year and kept it off since. After Thanksgiving and my birthday, I gained about 10 lbs, so I went on a 3-day fast and dropped over 11 lbs. I’ll jump back on the wagon this week and do another 3-day fast next week before Xmas week (when I know I’m going to gain some weight).

Even though we are about the same height, I’ve always been WAY bigger than my best friend, who I’ve known for about 35 years. He’s got a very thin frame, whereas my frame is more like a linebacker. However, about 4 years ago, his weight surpassed mine. At one point, he got onto the “eat every 2 hours” diet. I told him that was _horrible_ for his metabolism, but he completely went up and left on me, so I threw up my hands and said, hey, whatever you want to do. He’s substantially heavier now. He and I and several of our friends were just on a Zoom call a couple of night ago. He literally looks like he’s 10 months pregnant. And, of course, when they ordered food, it was fast-food, which is automatically horrible for you. Everything is high-carb and saturated in seed oils. The buns, the fries, and even the meat is cooked in seed oils. I, on the other hand, am eating grass-finished meat. Granted, I still haven’t reached my goal of getting down to 190 (I’m currently at 205), but I’m well on my way whereas he is going the complete opposite direction. And his mood clearly shows that.

BTW, I also just had a head-on collision with a semi truck while riding my motorcycle about 4 months ago. I had a concussion (obviously) and shattered the tib/fib just above the ankle on my left leg and kneecap. I firmly believe that I am healing as well and as fast as I am because of the dietary choices I’ve made over the last 6 years.

    • Yes! I severed a nerve in my palm in 2003 and after the operation the surgeon asked me what I was doing to heal the scar so well as you can barely even see the scar which runs across my entire palm. I believe it was all the betacaratone in the 800ml fresh carrot & ginger juice I was drinking everyday. That and tonnes of salad and veggies, I just wish I knew back then to eat meat as meat provides protein and amino acids for healing.

When the body is in healing stage it makes Such a difference what you eat.

Wishing you a speedy recovery! ❤🎉

  10. Whatever FDA says I try to avoid it. I found myself in this rabbit hole of so many industry lies when I read “The 23 Former Doctor Truths”. Its no wonder why Doctor left her career.

  11. I don’t want much for my birthday.. I just want the person reading this to be healthy, happy and love.
Wishing you a good day! 🙏🙏🙏

    • A few years ago, I put my foot down and stopped eating what my family eats. I stopped getting take out when they did. I stopped eating their junk they brought home. I’ve always been the main food preparer in the house but they bring such crap in. I must say after a couple of years, they’ve changed some of their ways and eat what I make now. They still bring in some junk, but not nearly as much and I fear processed and ultra processed foods so much , I don’t touch it. My only weakness is occasional tortilla chips. I don’t eat gluten and never ever cook with seed oils. I do eat some fruit but no refined sugar. I feel much better than I did 5 years ago.

  12. I had bowel trouble and fibromyalgia for years, stopped eating gluten and seed oils 3 years ago. l am 71 years old and l have no inflammation, feel great and people think I’m 60.

  13. No body knows enough science to refute things because science (and math) haven’t been taught in school for years. Rational thought also isn’t taught. Common sense apparently isn’t common at all. Thank you, Dr. Shanahan and Dr. Berg for having her on your channel.

    • Science and math is still taught in American schools. Blue states still excel whereas Red states do not. Oh what a great country we would have if we focused on identifying facts, analyzed information objectively, and considering different perspectives to make logical decisions, rather than solely relying on emotions or biases. Racism, Misogyny and cultural resentment are reasons why [she] lost.

  14. I started questioning everything, especially advice from government health organizations after reading Health and Beauty Mastery by Julian Bannett, this book exposes so many shocking truths about the health industry.

  15. A perfect tangy dressing is organic apple cider vinegar, olive oil, sesame oil, lime and salt. Measurements are by your own taste.
