Are your friends and family losing weight, and you're not? Let's talk about why it's not working.

A few of the top things that make it difficult to lose weight:
• Past dieting
• Insulin resistance
• Doing the wrong type of diet
• Not doing intermittent fasting (or not applying it correctly)
• Not getting enough sleep
• Existing health problems

But there is a big thing that can affect weight loss that I've never talked about before: your genes.

There are many different positive and negative things that can affect your genes. Within certain individuals, there are variations of genes that act differently. These variations can cause some people to burn fat fast and others to lose weight slowly.

These genetic variations aren't errors. They're just things that happened within our genetics long ago that may have even been survival advantages but don't help us in our current environment.

Weight loss tips for those who can't lose weight:
1. Give it more time
2. Be more strict with your carb intake
3. Fast for longer
4. Completely cut out sugar, get into a deep level of ketosis, and consume nutrient-dense foods
5. Add more tactical actions, which can include:
• Getting more exercise (HIIT)
• Consuming apple cider vinegar
• Getting more sleep
• Taking berberine
• Taking cinnamon
• Cutting out extra fat
• Avoiding restaurants

  1. I’m taking the Dr.Berg Blood Sugar along with a Thyroid Complex along w/ IF & pool excersize I did lose 25lbs n 6 months…I am disabled & don’t walk w/o a walker…that’s what helped me…hopefully I cont. thru the winter months🙏🙏🙏

  2. That’s what I always tell the thin people who criticize me, that if and when we get stranded on a deserted island, my metabolism will win and I will survive the longest and they won’t. 😂

  3. I have a very fast metabolism. It’s hard for me to gain weight. I started working out because I’ve been taking advice on a lot of Dr. Bergs videos. I’m not trying to get into ketosis, but I am avoiding sugars, starches, and wheat/grains. I now eat a high amount of protein and fat alongside a lot of fiber and nutrition as well. If I have sugar, it’s in the form of fruit, but not more than a couple of fruits. I have a job where I am on my feet lifting and lowering packages all day. So I use a lot of energy as is before the gym. But so far so good. It’s only been a couple weeks. Today I woke up really sore but not tired. I hope the quality of foods I’m taking time to source pays off, and I can maintain this.

    • Keep food diary for a week or something. Mark everything down what goes down your mouth. Then see that how many calories you are really consuming. Usually people either under- or overestimate their daily calories. I had same problem, but I just wasn’t eating enough. It is hard to keep up the consistent eating of +200-500 calories surplus daily, but it is a must for gaining weight/muscle mass. On some days I am not on surplus, but I make it up on other day with bigger surplus

    • have you tried The keto brick? Invented by keto Savage a.k.a. Robert Sikes? I don’t get them a lot but I like them to have on hand. If you’re somewhere where you may make a bad choice or you need extra energy boost to go work out or you’re traveling. Or if you missed your meal! I like to have one in my backpack when I’m out snowshoeing:) i’m in the Midwest. Michigan to be exact. Some people buy them by the month because they like one before they work out every day. They are Keto macros made with keto ingredients. peanut butter is my favorite and he just released mint chocolate on Sunday. I bought one because I want to try it. They’re kind of pricey but the best keto brick out there and actually the first. I don’t eat them too often. But if you’re someone who’s working out you may enjoy them 🙂 my husband lifts weights and works out 5 to 7 days a week he loves them. Keto Savage a.k.a. Robert Sykes. One of the First keto bodybuilders to compete. He stays keto. He doesn’t promote products with carbs etc.

    • I knew someone about 40 years ago that said he would burn 10 lbs bending over to tie his shoes. He had to go on a high protein diet to keep weight on. I hope this works for you.

    • @Milton Bates It’s not a snack. If you’re a bodybuilder and you need something to get you through in extensive work out this works. This is not a snack lol. If you’re snacking on this then you’ve got a problem. This is mostly fat moderate protein Extremely low carb. It was invented for working out. Again if you’re snacking on this then there’s issues lol. And really on keto no one should be snacking… my comment was for the poster. He works out and he’s trying to gain weight.

  4. “Friends and spouses dub in…” That’s because when you got something wrong with you everyone else becomes a doctor lol but nobody can fix themselves😂

  5. Dr. Berg, can we have a research video on the connection between insulin resistance and toe nail fungus, if any? Thank you for all you do ❤

    Thank you Dr Berg! 🐱👍🏿

    • @FidelCastro6948 So true! Fidel Castro you’ve been in this chat for a long time… for years. No doubt you’re already doing these things 🙂 we’ve talked many times😊 The ketogenic lifestyle is the optimal lifestyle.

    • Berberine helped my blood glucose stay in range 👍🏿👍🏿especially when fasting even if I’m not diabetic or take in sugar I controlled my stress levels and I lost weight just from sleeping better

  7. I 💕 Dr. Berg, HOWEVER I’m so glad to hear that he’s on to genetics now. I had my DNA analyzed 3 yrs ago and found that my body cannot tolerate much FAT! This was confirmed by a unique blood test done through the Predict2 Study I participated in. I can not do KETO – genetically! I thrive on a higher protein, low fat, lower carb diet. The old ZoneDiet (balanced macros) works for me!

    • The ZoneDiet: 30% of calories from protein, 30% from fats, 40% from high fiber natural carbs (veggies). I used Cronometer to design my basic menu, then learned to substitute for variety.

    • Finally it took him long enough. I guess he’s been reading the comments like mine.
I have to check out that Predict2 Study you mentioned.

  8. Dr. Eric Berg DC. You are spot on there. I have Klinefelter syndrome 47 XXY genetics.
For the past 20 years I have been trying so hard to lose weight. And it was seeming impossible to lose very much weight. Thank you! This make more sense to me now. But I will keep trying my very best to keep the weight off. Justin ☘👍

  9. Avoiding restaurants is a big one Dr Berg! Everyone loves to eat out. Whether it’s fast food or someplace nice with friends or family. It’s all about choices we make, when picking off the menu. Have a blessed day everyone. ✝️

  10. Dr. Berg, Thank you so much. Yesterday, I had a horrible runny nose, sneezing, and the beginning of a cough. I opened my supplement draw to show a friend, who just had her gallbladder yanked, your gallbladder formula and saw the NAC you recommended for mucus, hint hint. I took four and BAM! I just woke with a nose that is dry as a bone. I will take four everyday until this sick season passes. This is just one testimony of the many ways you have changed my health and are helping me to survive. IF YOU ARE READING THIS AND YOU HAVE A “COLD,” FIND HIS VIDEO ON NAC AND GET SOME!

  11. I was drinking just about a two liter of Pepsi a day. Sometimes 3 and eating a couple packs of peanut butter cups or the majority of a carton of ice cream for every night for about nine years now. It’s been four weeks with no sugar cold turkey. My whole life all I did was drink sugar 24/7 even as a kid. It was tough as hell at first but it gets easier over time. Now I gotta work on getting better rest.

  12. Excellent info! I have been gaining weight since I started keto… but that was my goal… went from a low of 127 with a bit of a gut back to 145 solid muscle…. of course a good excercise workout was part of this. I find it easier to avoid sugar all together too… too easy to gorge if I start.

  13. I am all good with this, but as a ‘see food’ dieter (see food and eat all you want whenever) until I was about 35, I would add that age will slow down even the fastest metabolism – so, the earlier you start to practice restraint, the better you will do in older age…

  14. I always thought it was a sign of genetic strength as the mechanics of the body storing strategies would have been lifesaving once. I added more frequent short exercise, on a diet mostly based on animal protein and greens, better sleep and eat earlier in evenings, less dairy more fish, never milk, little or no breads for weeks, rare pasta , some brown rice and couscous, in foods I used good amount of quality olive oil , curcumin and cinnamon, sea salt / pink salt, ground pepper , chilly. A cup of filter coffee in afternoons to keep appetite at bay before excercise, otherwise green teas in mornings. Only sugar eaten a square or two of 85% cocoa chocolate daily. Lost 30 kg in 1 year. And kept shape. When I see a donut I see something toxic that should not go into a dog’s mouth.

  15. Dr. Berg, do you advise taking berberine while a person is on metformin? Will there be any side effects? Is it as effective?
    Thanks.

  16. I’ve been IFing for 18 months, very religiously. Generally I follow a 20:4 (at the least) and more often 22:2 regime. I am definitely a sugar addict, which is hard to restrict. I’ve tried to make some keto friendly subs that help fend off the cravings. I exercise moderately every day and HIIT a couple of times each week. I struggle to lose weight and need to lose 15-20 pounds to be a healthy weight. I probably need to get rid of my treat substitutes and fast longer?! Is it possible that I need to just give this more years????

  17. I’m sure genetic factors play a role in virtually everything. However, “its your genes” is used too often, if the cause is unknown or worse as a dismissive of peoples’ concerns.
